Chapter 6

Chapter 6: Rivalry

I stormed out of the briefing room fuming with rage and hurt but deep down, I knew it was all my fault. If I hadn't had been so careless and reckless, our mission would have been a complete success and my best friend wouldn't have gotten hurt.

I ignored everyone else around me and went straight to the one place I can break things and let all my anger out; the training room. Without wasting time, I put on my boxing gloves and found the nearest punching bag, hitting it and screaming.

"Stupid, stupid, stupid girl. How could you let something like that happe? You were meant to protect your friends but instead you almost got them killed."

I said landing 5 hard strikes on the bag.

"You are reckless and careless and untrained yet you rushed into a mission unprepared just to what? Prove yourself. You will never be as a good as your parents or Luca. Hell, you can't even measure up to Mathew."

I screamed, tears streaming down my face.

"All you had to do was to steal information. Even a common thief can do that and leave without a scratch. You not only let down your friends but you let down the one person you were trying so damn hard to please. You will never amount to anything. You will always be the spoilt daddy's girl who refuses to grow up." And with that the punching bag finally burst, sand leaking out and pouring onto the floor.

I collapsed to the ground, tears streaming down my face as I chocked with violent sobs.

"Andrea."

The door creaked open and a calm almost silent voice called out.

"Shhh, it's okay." Matthew said pulling me into a hug. My head bumped on his chest as he stroked my hair.

"Where's my brother? Why are you here?" I asked pulling away from him. "What do you mean?" He asked with mock hurt as he pulled me back into the comfort and warmth of his chest.

"You don't even like me. Shouldn't you be happy I'm in distress? You can go ahead and laugh at me now. You don't have to pretend you care." I said trying to pull away from his grip. "Now I'm actually hurt. I may not be fond of you but that doesn't mean I'd thrive on your suffering, you're my best friend's little sister after all." He asked twirling his fingers around my hair.

"Maybe you're right but everything is still a disaster. Maya can't walk, my uncle hates me and Tiffany is such a pain. With the way things are going my uncle might actually replace me with her." I said breaking into sobs.

"You're just overreacting. Maya might be hurt but she's going to get better and your uncle definitely doesn't hate you. Besides, Tiffany just came there's no way she can ever replace you."

"Do you really mean that?" I said pulling away to look at his face. "Yeah I do." He said giving me an awkward smile.

We remained like that cuddled up on the floor for what felt like an hour.

"Well, you've cried enough don't you think? I bet my shirt is tired of holding your all tears and snot." He joked

"Ugh you're so impossible." I said hitting his chest.

"I'm serious you look horrible when you cry just like a monkey's butt."

He chuckled.

I rolled my eyes at him and stood up heading for the door. My hand rested on the door knob "Hey Matt. Thanks for um... being here for me." I said without turning back.

"No prob."

I pushed the knob down and left the room. I sneakily made my way to the the restroom to wash my face; I couldn't let anyone know I was crying. I was washing my face when I heard clicking heels heading towards the restroom. I instinctively hid inside a stall and locked it in from the inside.

"I don't know what you were talking about big sis. At most the brother is just eye candy and Andrea is just a careless, lost kid. They can't seriously be that bad." Tiffany said her voice sharp and edgy.

"You can't possibly be serious. You just met them like an hour ago. You can't just believe everything you see over your own sister. Andrea is just a bitch waiting to rear her ugly head and when she does she won't look so nice." Marcie, a twenty six year old and one of the best agents working under my uncle said.

Marcie and I have never talked before I just see her once in a while at the company so it is definitely a surprise to hear her such horrible things about me.

"Whatever ever you say sis after all you know best."

"Don't speak to me sarcastically and how dare you roll your eyes at me. You should be happy the boss has warmed up to you so fast. Even knowing you're my sister, I still didn't think he'd like you so easily." Marcie replied.

"Of course he did. I'm literally the most likeable person like ever." Tiffany said in the most plastic, mean girl accent.

I mean what is it with that girl and switching accents. So disgusting.

"Don't flatter yourself. You better make sure your mission is successful or else you're deeply going to regret meddling in grown up matters." Marcie said and the clicking of heels and closing of the door followed.

"Uggh. This Andrea girl better be worth all this." Tiffany said and left the rest room.

I waited a few minutes to make sure they weren't coming back before I left the rest room. Screw what Matthew said I am definitely not overreacting. Tiffany and Marcie are up to something and I'm going to figure out what.

I went back to my office to continue my work. You see, my uncle may train undercover spies but it can't really be a public business if it's meant secret and the money has to come from somewhere.

So everyone in the company has to work regular office jobs unless they are currently on a mission and since I'm waiting for Tiffany to make a move on the mission, I am stuck working. I hate being stuck in one place.
