CHAPTER 2. a run away pt1

We continue with her father rubbing her head and making her calm and explain what happened.

"I had a nightmare, that's all," she looks up and smiles to make her father know she is fine.

"Alright, well, your friends are downstairs waiting on you," he says, walking out of the room and out of sight.

Ashley gets dressed and runs downstairs and outside to her friends, Jason and KK. Jason is a kid a bit on the darker side with dreads and glasses. He never really looks excited, mostly tired, but KK is the opposite, always smiling and awake with black hair and red eyes.

Jason is the first to speak. "What took you so long? I thought you wouldn't come outside," he says as he rubs her head, still with the same stoic expression he has on his face.

"Why come on time when I can come fashionably late? You know me," she says with a smile and a joking tone of voice.

KK speaks up. "Come on, don't make me feel like a third wheel," he says jokingly as he puts his arms around both of them with a grin on his face. Suddenly, he gets a hit in the back of the head by Jason.

"Stop being stupid and let's go already," he says as he walks away.

Ashley and KK quickly catch up to him as he walks down the street. They are all having a conversation when Ashley speaks up.

"I had a weird nightmare last night. It was like my body was paralyzed and I heard growling and saw something in my closet," she says, scared and shaken, trying to get the nightmares out of her head. KK thinks and Jason's eyes widen. He stops and puts his arm around her.

"Ash, that wasn't a nightmare... That was real, and I know because it's been happening to me lately. That's why I don't get sleep, because it only comes out when you try to sleep," he says in a serious tone and has a more worried and serious expression than he normally does, making her even more scared. KK suddenly speaks up.

"Come on, dude, you weren't supposed to tell her yet. She isn't ready to know," KK says with a bit of a frown before going back to his normal smile, and the two act like they didn't say anything.

For the rest of the day, they act like nothing happened and hang out at an old abandoned house they remodeled and made into a base. Jason speaks up.

"So, should we like clean up the upstairs and make it into something cooler?" he says, looking at the two of them with a stoic expression, then looking back up at the stairs.

"I mean, sure, it's still gonna take a while, but with hard work, I'm sure we can do it. Plus, Jason, you have the money to buy the decorations, right?" Ashley says as she walks over to Jason and puts her chin on his head, cupping his face with her hand.

"Yeah, yeah, I got the money to get the stuff," he says as he leans into her touch, still with the expression he keeps when he talks to most people.

"Come on, guys, let's go then, or are you gonna sit and flirt?" KK says as he leaves the building, and Ashley and Jason soon follow behind him.
