Chapter 37: To Know Your Strength, You Have to Be Broken

Kylie POV

“It’s not what I want. But it’s what I have to do.”

Those were the last words spoken by Graham. The last words he uttered to me before I bade him goodbye and left him behind in that seedy restaurant. Words that I had not expected to hear from him.

Words that could set me back by weeks, if not months, in my quest for vengeance. Words that demanded an immediate change of plans. A course correction. A change of tack.

I opened the door and went back to lie down on my bed.

He came in quietly and locked the door silently. His probing eyes scanned my body from head to toe, searching for answers he could not find, looking for clues he could not spot. In the end, he did what he was best at. Sat down by my side and touched my forehead.

“Are you sick?” Logan’s tone conveyed a genuine feeling of concern and worry, bewilderment and affection. “Anne, what’s going on?”

“Nothing. Why?” I replied meekly and avoided making eye contact with him.
