Heartbreak On A Silver Night

Macy's point of View

The shudder of thunder through the sky didn't cover the loudest noise in Macy's head, or the cracking of the most fragile thing in her body, not the crystals but her heart.

"Macy," Arthur whispered as he tried to get her attention but it also had the other two. With wide eyes, Daniel moved past the bend and saw Macy and Arthur together. His eyes were wide like a deer caught in the headlight but as he found Arthur's grip on her wrist his gaze narrowed.

"What the hell do you think you're doing to my fiance?" He asked moving forward but Arthur only stood his ground with a burning glare. David was caught off guard by his defence but didn't stop, he reached out to touch Macy but she had stayed behind Arthur.

"Macy, let's go,"

"You have the nerve David, you have the bloody Nerve to act like you came for me in the first place. Besides, I thought we were co-workers, why are you suddenly bothered by who is holding me?" She asked standing next to Arthur. It was like fire and ice in a bucket, each element trying its best not to fuss out.

"Don't make this a big deal Macy, I was trying to sell your competence to Mr. Cox." She scoffed and took a step forward, if she was anything she hated being treated as incapable when she had tried so hard to prove herself.

"It's a surprise that you would think that I need that, it's clear you don't think I'm capable of doing anything even after everything I've done at the company." She stated calmly but betrayal laced her words.

"Macy, please don't get mad over this." He said with his eyes downcast but Macy wasn't done, she had yet to acknowledge the woman with David and what she had heard.

"You must be Freya," David's shoulder turned rigid and his Adam's apple bobbed. "I'm Macy- but I'm guessing you already know that since you two were just discussing how my fiancee is supposed to break up with me." Her gaze shifted from Freya to David who was now staring someplace else.

"Macy, you heard wrong," he started with a lie.

"No, I think if two people heard the same thing then their hearing is working perfectly fine," Arthur added and David's nose flared.

"So you both are accusing me, yet you two are standing just outside the restroom? How do I know you've not been screwing him in the first place?" Anger welled up in Macy and she wanted to throw her clutch at his head, why in the world would he think of her like that?

"Are you a child? Who tries to deflect answering a question by throwing an accusation?" Arthur stated with his brows slanted in a glare, it was only a matter of time before he let it blow out.

"And why the hell are you trying to turn this around and pin it on Macy? You're the one who was caught cheating."

"I, I, I," As he stammered, David's eyes moved between Macy and Arthur waiting for that break.

"You're being a suck-up right now David, just tell the bitch you're done." Freya snapped eyeing Macy like she was some piece of garbage. "David, you know how important this breakup is to you, you know what's at stake here, don't get sentimental."

It was clear where David's attention and desire lay, there was no need to cover it up, Macy had heard and now seen that her life was gradually falling apart just when she was about to make a big break.

There was a stale silence that clutched at her heart, it was only a matter of time before she broke down but not here, not in front of them, not in front of her cowardly boyfriend, not in front of Arthur Kent. Arthur Kent.

"You know what? You don't have to break up with me because I am breaking up with your sorry ass." She muttered with a deep bitterness seated in her chest, she blinked back the tears threatening to split out of her eyes.

"You can't do that."

"I just did!" she snapped back, her reaction had taken David aback, he had only seen more of Macy's calm side, she was a sweetheart there was no way she would be ruthless he thought.

"That's great, you can be miserable now. Leave this party, go home and cry and think about how you're failing at everything." Freya said with a slanted grin that made Macy want to reach out and smack her but she held herself back.

"Look you should've just let me break up with you instead, now you're going to be tagged as the promiscuous woman," he paused and continued. "it's improper for a woman to break up with a man, and it's improper for you to break up with me, especially with the power and connection I have." He said boldly as he stared down at her. David prided himself on what he had been able to keep even though Macy had been the initiator of most of it.

"I didn't think I would see the lowest form of a coward in my lifetime but I think this cuts it and for it to come from a man using it against the woman he's supposed to get married to. I'm highly disappointed but then David Klein, you have proved yourself." His gaze shifted to Macy who he noticed had her arms around herself. She wasn't comfortable and even though she may have the most straight face, Arthur could still read the subtility in them.

"Let's go," Arthur said softly to her and she nodded, David's mouth dropped open and he took a step forward which Arthur didn't take lightly as he took a step forward himself. He wasn't about to allow a douche like David Klein to intimidate him.

"Arthur-" Macy held his arm, whatever was happening between the two she didn't want it to escalate.

"Yeah, listen to the bitch-" Macy hadn't imagined having men fight over her, especially when one of the men was supposed to marry her, not her, not in a place like this. Arthurs's fist connected with David's face and the crack was heard by four of them, it was a great thing that they were a bit hidden from the public eye.

"Use a word like that on her again and I promise to break more than your nose." He muttered as David nursed his nose which was slightly bleeding, Macy stared at him and when Arthur grabbed her wrist she swallowed.

"If you leave Macy, this is the end for you in the company and you will never get that deal with Sylvester Cox, he likes me and when-"

"You give yourself more credit than you deserve, I'm sure Slyvester Cox will be willing to listen more to me when he realizes that Macy isn't only competent but the woman I would be getting married to."
