Chapter 35-A Surge of Fear

Fear wasn't an emotion I had felt in a long time. I had grown to realize that it wasn't necessary and could be avoided, but as I stared down at her motionless figure, all I felt was fear—the kind that numbs your senses and leaves you with immobile limbs.

I remember the exact second everything shifted. One minute, I was watching her with bated breath, a mixture of pride and anticipation hanging in the air.

Her hand hovered above the microphone for just a moment too long. Something in the way her body tensed—an almost imperceptible pause—sent a chill down my spine. Before I could even process what was happening, it hit.

The crackle of electricity.

It surged through her like a live wire, and her entire body jerked violently, her back arching as the current took over. My heart stopped.
