Chapter 23: Who am I

It was the beginning of the new year when Emma came into my life—a girl with a radiant smile that could brighten the darkest of days. From the moment we met, everything felt effortless and clear, as if fate had orchestrated our paths to intertwine. Emma was not just understanding; she had a personality that complemented mine perfectly.

Within three months, our relationship blossomed into something beautiful. We became each other's pillars of support, checking in daily, sharing our dreams, fears, and aspirations. Emma was more than I could have hoped for—a partner in adventure, whether we were exploring new places, catching movies, or enjoying sports together. With her, I rediscovered a joy I hadn't known before.

However, by the fourth month, an unexplainable shift occurred. There was a growing unease within me, a doubt that clouded my vision whenever I was with her. I struggled to envision a future together, grappling with uncertainties about my own identity and what I truly wanted from a relationship. Fearing I was being unfair to both Emma and myself, I suggested we take a step back to reassess where we stood.

Despite my hopes for clarity, the decision only left us both confused and hurt. Emma, understandably, felt disrespected and uncertain about my commitment. We parted ways quietly, our once vibrant connection fading into silence.

Another year has passed, out of nowhere someone in the college group of friends proposed a plan to meet-up at the famous mall in the central area. Everyone had an agreed upon date in the middle of July. I was excited that maybe things would be different. A lot has happened to each of us over the years. We all graduated, had a job, had personal life-changing events. Maybe this time it will be loving that we'll find.
