Chapter 8 Lao Wu, Qiu Zhan

"Dad!" Shen Modie rushed over in a panic. Xiaoguang also became frantic, making anxious noises and immediately rushing to the nurse, gesturing desperately. "I'll call the doctor," the nurse said and ran out of the ward immediately.

"Dad, don't scare me," Shen Modie knelt on one knee by the bed, reaching out to hold her father's hand and pressing it against her face.

"Child, don't cry..." Shen Weiguo opened his eyes with difficulty, speaking with pain in his voice. He then looked towards Huo Mingze. Huo Mingze immediately squatted down beside Modie.

"Take good care of my daughter…" Shen Weiguo pleaded earnestly, looking at Huo Mingze.

"Dad, don't worry. I will take good care of Modie and Xiaoguang," Huo Mingze promised.

A group of doctors rushed in. The bald chief doctor immediately checked Shen Weiguo's eyes and instructed, "Move him to the emergency room." A nurse brought over a stretcher.

"Family members, help lift the patient," a doctor said. Shen Modie was about to help, but Huo Mingze stepped in first, "I'll do it!" He uncovered the blanket and gently lifted Shen Weiguo onto the stretcher. If he hadn't lifted him himself, he wouldn't have believed that an adult man could be so light.

He wondered if Lao Wu had arrived. Realizing his phone was still off, he turned it on while helping Shen Modie and her brother push the stretcher to the emergency room.

After Shen Weiguo entered the emergency room, Shen Modie felt weak. Seeing her brother anxiously watching the emergency room light, she mustered her strength to comfort him with sign language: "Brother, Dad will be okay." Xiaoguang nodded vigorously, signing back to her. The siblings comforted each other. Xiaoguang regretted agreeing to let their father leave the hospital yesterday.

Huo Mingze was about to call Lao Wu when his phone rang. Lao Wu's call came through first, "Bro, are you serious? You asked me to rush back to save someone, then you turn off your phone and disappear. If I hadn't saved Road Assistant's number, I'd have gone to your villa by now. All this running back and forth would exhaust a donkey."

"Where are you now?" Huo Mingze asked.

"Where else? Almost at the city hospital. I wanted to have some Chen Ji's preserved ribs but was afraid of delaying your important matter. By the way, did you really get the marriage certificate?" Qiu Zhan chattered like a talkative person.

"Yes, we did," Huo Mingze responded, then got to the point, "Lao Wu, my father-in-law is in the emergency room."

"Damn, wait for me. I'll tell the driver to run the red lights. Ah, I didn't have time to get a gift for my sister-in-law, but I'll focus on the treatment first," Qiu Zhan said before hanging up.

Huo Mingze glanced at his phone and saw over thirty WeChat messages, all from Yao Yutong. He opened her profile and set the messages to Do Not Disturb. Why not block her? He hadn't yet shown Yao Yutong that he had become the heir of the Huo family!

Xiaoguang kept tiptoeing, trying to see what was happening inside but to no avail. He paced back and forth in front of the emergency room. Seeing her brother like this made Shen Modie even more anxious.

"Dad will be alright," Huo Mingze said, standing beside Modie.

"Hmm," Shen Modie responded. Her heart felt as if it were being sawed, a real pain. She knew her father probably... couldn't hold on. Watching her loved one vomit blood in front of her, personally sending them into the emergency room, feeling the life slipping away... it was an indescribable pain.

A few minutes later, the door of the emergency room opened, and the chief doctor came out first, his face grim. He sighed and said, "Family members, we did our best."

Upon hearing this, Shen Modie's knees gave way, and she collapsed. Huo Mingze caught her just in time.

"Ugh... ugh..." Shen Modie sobbed in agony. She wanted so much to be strong, to not cry, to be brave, but she couldn't control herself. She knew her father might... might not make it, but when it really happened, it was a heart-wrenching pain.

"Bro, what's going on?" Qiu Zhan rushed in, dragging a suitcase, dressed in black sportswear, looking as if he was on a trip.

"Hurry, save him, inside," Huo Mingze said, seeing Qiu Zhan as a savior. He supported Modie with one hand and pointed to the emergency room with the other. At that moment, several medical assistants pushed Shen Weiguo out. Shen Weiguo lay quietly on the bed, lifeless.

"Dad..." Shen Modie stumbled and fell towards him. Huo Mingze quickly held her up.

"Condolences," the chief doctor sighed again. If possible, they would have saved him. The plan was to do immunotherapy, but the patient's condition was too poor to even wait for treatment.

"Please help push him in and get me a sterile gown, thank you!" Qiu Zhan shouted, not caring about his suitcase anymore. The doctors looked at him with sympathetic eyes but did not comply. They had seen this scene many times; family members could not accept the death of their loved ones, and some who knew a bit about emergency care would want to try saving them themselves. A doctor said kindly, "Family member, we have done our utmost to resuscitate him. Please accept our condolences."

Ignoring the sterile gown, Qiu Zhan placed his hand on Shen Weiguo's pulse. "Cardiopulmonary resuscitation," Qiu Zhan instructed, immediately pulling out his needle pouch. He had prepared it on the car ride. Seeing him pull out a bunch of silver needles, several doctors were helpless. Qiu Zhan decisively inserted needles into Shen Weiguo's Renzhong and Laogong acupoints. Then he quickly undid Shen Weiguo's clothes and inserted needles into his Tianchi, Quchi, and Neiguan acupoints.

Shen Modie's eyes were red, her gaze filled with hope as she looked at Huo Mingze. Huo Mingze looked at her and said, "He's a very good friend of mine, a descendant of a traditional Chinese medicine family."

"Thank you!" Shen Modie's eyes filled with even more hope.

"Ah..." About two minutes later, the person on the bed let out a light cough.

"Dad!" Shen Modie cried out in excitement again. She had shed more tears in these past two days than in her entire life.

Shen Weiguo opened his eyes, as if returning from another world. He opened his mouth, but Qiu Zhan stopped him: "Uncle, don't speak. Just lie down, relax, close your eyes, and breathe evenly."

The eldest brother had mentioned his condition—late-stage liver cancer. When he took his pulse earlier, it was already a sign of exhaustion and nearing death. Even though he performed emergency acupuncture, there weren't many days left.

The bald-headed chief doctor looked at Qiu Zhan in shock and asked, "Young man, who are you?"

"I'm also a doctor. Please help push him into a room, thank you!" Qiu Zhan replied.

"Quickly, help move him into a room," the chief doctor immediately ordered. The assistant doctors and nurses quickly dispersed and moved Shen Weiguo into a room.

Qiu Zhan opened the room's window and asked the doctors and nurses to leave. After removing the needles, he reinserted a few at different points. Shen Weiguo coughed up blood again, and Shen Modie cried uncontrollably.

Qiu Zhan comforted her, "It's good for his body to cough up this blood."

He couldn't lie and say everything would be fine, but he could say it was beneficial for the patient's body.

"Thank you, thank you!" Shen Modie thanked Qiu Zhan, bowing to him instinctively.

"Ah, no, no, no, sister-in-law, you can't do that. It's bad luck," Qiu Zhan immediately helped her up. Then he introduced himself...
