Chapter 26: Jeremy’s Post-Meal Musings

In a subtle way, Charlotte seemed to see other people in the world through Jeremy and vaguely understood the meaning of the safe house.

She was enveloped by a wave of compassion, feeling the need to work harder to provide a sanctuary for those people, to ensure they had enough to eat, even if it meant paying any price, even her own life...

At that moment, Charlotte suddenly snapped back to reality. No, wait! She was here on vacation. Even with a heart to save others, she could only do what she could and take what she needed!

She withdrew her gaze and continued trying on shoes, leaving Jeremy to enjoy his meat.

The shoe store had a wide variety of styles. Charlotte first looked for what she liked, then checked the prices, and finally considered the comfort.

She tried on the shoes in front of the mirror and, finding them satisfactory, set them aside.

She had now become indifferent to the zombie corpses around her.

The more you see, the more you get used to it. Throwing them aside was too much trouble.

Once she had nearly finished browsing, she took the shoes she was sure about and returned them to her room.

This meal was definitely Jeremy's dream feast, providing him with enough material for dreams in the future.

After eating until he was full, Jeremy lay back, letting his thoughts wander.

He now understood why countless beautiful women in the base wanted to pursue the leader. While others were desperately fighting for their next meal, they could still pick and choose their food.

With such a "solid" benefactor like Charlotte, he too felt the urge to cling to her.

He didn't need anything else; just two servings of sauced ribs a week would be enough. Even one serving would be worth it!

If those people knew that he was not only surviving well after leaving the base but also eating to his heart's content and even having large ribs... Ha, they probably wouldn't believe him.

Jeremy stretched his legs and looked at the distant light, feeling reluctant to move.

Soon, Charlotte came over, seeing that the food had been eaten clean, and took the empty dishes back to the food court.

"Let's go upstairs and have a look."

The second floor was also a shoe section, similar to the first floor, so Charlotte casually browsed and picked a few pairs she didn't have before heading up to the third floor.

The third floor was for men's shoes and was emptier than the first and second floors.

Jeremy also tried on a few pairs of shoes and, finding suitable ones, grabbed a large plastic bag from the checkout counter, discarding the shoe boxes and directly stuffing the shoes into the bag.

Following his example, Charlotte collected the remaining sizes and stored them in the system.

The fourth and fifth floors were for down jackets, but they were mostly empty. Whether short jackets or down vests, anything that could keep warm had been snatched up.

Jeremy pulled out a few sweaters from some zombie corpses and handed them to Charlotte.

Charlotte shook her head. The sweaters were covered in decayed flesh and were unacceptable.

Jeremy shook the sweaters to remove the debris and handed them over again.

She still shook her head.

Jeremy then stuffed the three sweaters into his own pocket.

After wandering through the fourth and fifth floors several times without finding any wearable clothes, Charlotte massaged her sore calves and sat on a sofa to rest.

Seeing that she was finally feeling tired, Jeremy sat down on a nearby sofa and quietly observed her.

They still had to walk back for more than an hour. Would she be able to endure it?

Charlotte was also pondering this question. If Jeremy wasn't here, she could instantly teleport back.

Could she really walk back? More than an hour was too painful.

"System, can I teleport with a guest back to the hotel?"

[You are the store owner; please arrange it yourself.]

Charlotte couldn't help but praise the system, feeling a surge of affection.

"I remember there are quite a few bicycles nearby. If not, we can ride back," Jeremy suggested slowly.

Leaving aside whether they could unlock the bicycles, just the drizzling rain outside would cause them to catch a cold on the way back.

In the apocalypse, not only was there no food but also no medicine. For any illness, minor ones rely on endurance, and serious ones are left to fate.

Naturally, Charlotte didn't want to get soaked in the rain. She made 10 VIP cards in the system, took out the first one, numbered 001.

"Take this VIP card. It's the highest membership card for the hotel. With this card, as the hotel develops, anyone holding it will have priority to purchase any goods and book rooms. The store will not be responsible if it is lost."

Jeremy took the black and gold card, examining it carefully. It not only had "VIP" written on it but also his name in the lower right corner, along with a white progress bar whose function was unclear. The back had room number 201.

It looked like an ordinary card.

Charlotte waited patiently for him to finish examining the card before continuing, "This card also has another function. When going out, you can teleport directly to the hotel's front door once per day. This is for the cardholder only and can only be used during the hotel's operating hours."

Jeremy was stunned, unable to speak for a moment.

A teleportation card? Such an extraordinary item? In the future, if he encountered difficult situations, not only could he use the square to save his life, but he could also teleport to the hotel at will?!

He really came to the right place this time!

Charlotte was generous! Charlotte was making a fortune! Charlotte was amazing!

"Cough cough." Charlotte lightly coughed into her fist, noticing the increasingly strange and fervent gaze from Jeremy.

She knew the teleportation card was a bit overpowered, but she really didn't want to walk back for more than an hour after a full day of shopping. Her legs would be ruined.

She was here for a vacation, not to suffer.

"Let's go back." Charlotte took the lead in teleporting back. In the blink of an eye, she was back in the hotel, sitting behind the counter.

Fawna, who was supporting her face with both hands while observing Bear work, suddenly felt someone appear beside her and jumped in surprise.

"Who?!" She jumped to the side, taking an aggressive stance and glaring with a fierce expression—oh, it's the beautiful lady! How did she suddenly appear?

"Sis..."

"Knock knock knock."

There was a knock on the door.

Charlotte turned to see Jeremy standing outside with a backpack and an umbrella, his gaze clear and bright.

Charlotte then remembered that the hotel hadn't been unsealed yet, and people outside couldn't come in.

After having the system unseal the hotel, she went up to unlock the door and opened it.

Jeremy shook the raindrops off his umbrella, closed it, and walked into the lobby. Seeing Bear was cleaning the electrical appliances brought from the supermarket, he understood where the missing appliances had gone.

"Store owner姐姐, why did you suddenly appear? You startled me!" Fawna came over, naturally hugging her arm with a cute and rosy face.

Fawna curiously glanced at Jeremy, her eyes darting between him and Charlotte.

He looked a bit like her brother, and it seemed like he had a good relationship with the store owner sister?

She observed the two of them back and forth, trying to figure out the situation.

Charlotte locked the door again and was busy organizing the day's haul in her room, not in the mood for business.

"I need to tidy up the things. I'll bring them up to you later."

Jeremy gave Fawna a cold glance, his gaze softening as he looked at Charlotte, "Okay, I'll go upstairs then."

Fawna quietly hid behind Charlotte, avoiding his sharp gaze.

She couldn't afford to provoke him.

"姐姐, I'm going back too. You're busy." Fawna took two boxes of lunch from the machine and, once Jeremy disappeared down the hallway, slipped back into her room.

Charlotte didn't notice the silent exchange between them. The lobby had been reorganized by Bear and looked much tidier. The refrigerator brought earlier had been plugged in and was starting to cool.

The fans, air conditioners, and refrigerators brought back today had all been disassembled, cleaned, and disinfected by Bear, and were spread out all over the floor.

Looking at the somewhat cramped lobby, Charlotte thought for the first time about upgrading and expanding the space.

Seeing Bear had started mopping the water stains again, she got up and went back to her room to organize her things.
