Chapter 13 Jack Dupont

Chen Yu took another look at Commissioner Jack. The man even knew about the events of last night? This was becoming quite interesting, it seemed that the commissioner was specifically here for him.

"From a theological perspective, or a scientific one?" Chen Yu asked with interest, looking at Jack before him. The commissioner didn't appear to be old, yet for someone of his young age to hold the title of commissioner, Chen Yu didn't believe Jack was without some kind of influential background.

A commissioner with such a status intrigued by someone like himself, an ordinary Asian, was indeed very interesting.

"Please, Mr. Chen, explain from a theological perspective. I will find a scientific explanation myself," Jack said with a smile, steering the Rolls-Royce toward a commercial street.

"That withered tree served as a dwelling for an evil spirit. Cutting down the tree could temporarily make the evil spirit leave that place," Chen Yu said, looking out at the bustling commercial street from the car window, somewhat lost in thought.

The New York of now was not the New York of the future, the current New York had not yet seen the blatant zero-dollar purchase phenomenon, and the stores on the streets had many customers.

This probably was what people meant by the liveliness of the human world.

"Temporarily leave? So, you're saying the evil spirit might come back?" Jack parked the car, his eyes showing his curiosity and excitement, it was evident that Mr. Jack was a person with an exceedingly strong sense of curiosity.

"There is a possibility, but the chances are slim. Evil spirits are not very intelligent; having left a place, they might just settle down anywhere new," Chen Yu shrugged. Dealing with that evil spirit at the time, he hadn't been very confident.

After all, although exorcising spirits might be an issue common people could handle within the states, Chen Yu at the time lacked a suitable weapon and could only watch as the spirit departed.

However, since he had destroyed its dwelling place, the evil spirit's strength must have definitely been affected, and it would likely have a hard time causing trouble again in the short term.

"I see..." Commissioner Jack seemed a bit distracted as he looked at the throng of people outside the car window, lost in thought about something. Chen Yu couldn't help but take another look at Jack. This man was indeed interesting; although they had met for the first time today, there was a sense of familiar ease emanating from him.

If a young commissioner with a background and reputation suddenly took an interest in the mystical aspects of exorcism, there were only three possibilities.

The first was that the person had nothing better to do and wanted to hear a story.

The second was that the person had encountered a supernatural event and sought the help of a professional exorcist.

The third possibility was that Jack didn't believe him at all and was only inquiring to see if Chen Yu had any incriminating evidence, especially since Mr. Lawrence's son Jamie was currently missing, presumed dead.

Chen Yu wasn't too worried. It seemed to him that Commissioner Jack didn't fall into the first category and didn't harbor much malice towards him either; otherwise, he could have already called Immigration to take him away.

"Mr. Jack." A woman in uniform hurried over, her clothes swaying as she ran, revealing that she was quite proud of her figure—Chen Yu could almost see some secret places from where he sat in the car.

"Hmm, take Mr. Chen for a bath, and also arrange three sets of clothes for him," Jack gradually recovered and said indifferently, glancing at the respectful woman and then speaking.

Chen Yu raised his eyebrow. If before he had wondered whether Commissioner Jack suspected him, now he was sure that Jack probably wasn't suspicious of him, but instead needed his help for something.

Otherwise, there would be no reason to provide him with three sets of clothes, especially as this woman had come out of a luxury boutique.

Three sets of clothes weren't a small number, and the money Chen Yu had on hand was completely insufficient for them.

"Detective Jack, is there something you need my assistance with?" Chen Yu asked with interest as he looked at Jack. Before now, Jack had never revealed even a hint of such matters.

"Mr. Chen, there is a small favor for which I need the opinion of a professional like you," Jack readily admitted. He indeed needed Chen Yu's help.

Chen Yu nodded, sure enough, that was the case.

So Chen Yu opened the car door and stepped out, and after he did, the woman stood by his side, respectfully guiding Chen Yu into the shop, and then to a simple bathroom for a bath.

"Radiance, authorize the retrieval of some public information about NYPD Detective Jack," Chen Yu asked as he scrubbed himself. He needed to know some things about Jack in advance – it's always good to prepare for all eventualities.

"Authorization granted. Detective Jack Dupont, a member of the Dupont family, his father is...."

Chen Yu was stunned for a moment, Dupont? The Dupont family?

The information Radiance retrieved wasn't extensive, mostly public intelligence, such as more private matters, for example, the color of shorts Jack wears daily, which are part of citizen privacy and could not be retrieved.

But even so, it was enough.

"Authorize the inquiry into whether there's any supernatural phenomenon around Jack," Chen Yu's interest was piqued. The Dupont family, although he wasn't very familiar with American families, just the fact that they were known by the suffix "family" often meant they were no simple characters.

Considering Jack's extravagant car and his police detective position that didn't align with his age, Chen Yu had some preliminary understanding of the power and influence of the Dupont family.

"Call and chat records have been collected, and relevant information has been excerpted."

"A friend of Jack's, Daenerys Solano, mentioned a week ago that some unusual events had occurred in her home...."

Chen Yu understood – no wonder this Jack was interested in his identity.

After gathering some information, Chen Yu had finished his bath, and when he came out, the woman started measuring him for clothes with a tape measure and such.

Soon, he was dressed in a set of brand-new clothes. The brand wasn't very conspicuous, but they fit very well, and the other party also packed the other two sets for him.

"Hmm..." Chen Yu examined himself in the mirror. He looked a lot more normal now that he was properly dressed, no longer like a vagrant, but his vitality and appearance clearly showed that he was a drug addict.

There was no easy fix for this; such vitality couldn't be restored in a short time unless Chen Yu could get his hands on a primary gene modification serum.

"Mr. Chen, your previous clothes...?" the woman softly inquired.

"Just throw them away," Chen Yu waved his hand, showing little interest in those tattered clothes.
