Chapter 14 Gu Yaoyao

Zhou Yuwen had just settled back into his seat when Chang Hao and Li Qiang leaned over eagerly and asked, "Old Zhou, are you really the general agent or just bragging? How come we don't know anything about it?"

Zhou Yuwen chuckled and replied, "We have only just met today; how could you possibly know."

Chang Hao said helplessly, "If I had known you were running for class president, I wouldn't have run myself. Damn it, now our votes are going to be split. Otherwise, I would step down and support you for class president."

As Chang Hao was about to stand up, Zhou Yuwen and Li Qiang stopped him.

"Hey, Brother Hao, no need, really no need. Whether you run or not doesn't have much impact on Old Zhou." Li Qiang saw things clearly, after all Zhou Yuwen's popularity had just soared, completely overshadowing Jiang Chao and Chang Hao.

Even now, as someone else was up on the stage doing their self-introduction, people were sticking their heads out to inquire: "Zhou Yuwen, that deal about topping up 150 to get 300 in phone credit, is it for real?"

"Of course it's real, genuine and fair to all ages."

"Then our dorm will take one!"

"Our dorm wants one too."

Nearby dorms that had not got their cards yet consulted with one another, finding Zhou Yuwen's offer too good to pass up, Zhou Yuwen took out paper and a pen and said, "Okay, I'll make a note of it."

"Ahem! Zhou Yuwen," You Changjin couldn't stand it and called a stop to Zhou Yuwen's actions.

"Show some respect for your classmates,"

There were still students on the stage introducing themselves; Zhou Yuwen's behavior was frowned upon.

Zhou Yuwen gave an embarrassed smile and told the students coming up for cards: "Let's talk after class."

Zhou Yuwen was now the popular choice.

Jiang Chao, also running for class president, didn't stand a chance.

Watching Zhou Yuwen enjoy such popularity from afar, Jiang Chao felt bitter. As a local from Jinling, he was being upstaged by someone from out of town.

"Where are you going?" Just then, someone from the dorm was actually about to approach Zhou Yuwen.

Jiang Chao immediately asked in annoyance.

The classmate gave a sheepish, bitter smile: "Brother Chao, our dorm also wants to get a card,"

"Yeah, Brother Chao, a top-up of 150 for 300 credit. You can't find a deal like that anywhere else in Jinling, right?"

Jiang Chao was frustrated, but what his classmate said was true.

After the self-introductions were over, You Changjin began to address the issue of electing a class leader. Gu Yaoyao being the female class leader was a foregone conclusion, and for the male class leader, everyone already had someone in mind.

"Those in favor of Jiang Chao as the class leader during military training, please raise your hands."

Below the stage, just a sparse few hands went up, all from Jiang Chao's dorm mates. At this point, Jiang Chao's face looked frightfully displeased.

"Um, then as for Chang Hao—"

Before he could finish, Chang Hao quickly said, "Hey! Teacher, I abstain!"

"Abstain? What's the matter?"

"Well, I share a dorm with Zhou Yuwen. It's not good for internal unity. I nominate Zhou Yuwen for class president!" Chang Hao declared straightforwardly.

Inside, You Changjin had been leaning towards Zhou Yuwen for class president anyway. Hearing Chang Hao's statement, he said, "Alright then, those in favor of Zhou Yuwen as class president, please raise your hands."

No sooner had he spoken than almost everyone's hands shot up beneath the stage.

Seeing such an enthusiastic response, even the students raising their hands couldn't help but laugh.

There was no helping it; everybody was selfish. Nobody saw any benefit in others becoming the class leader.

Zhou Yuwen was offering three hundred in phone credit right off the bat, who wouldn't vote for Zhou Yuwen.

"Alright, let's tentatively set Zhou Yuwen as our class president and Gu Yaoyao as the vice president. After military training, we will formally elect our class officers. During this period, I ask everyone to supervise their performance, and if you think either of them is unsuitable, feel free to talk to me about it."

After the election of the class president was over, we moved on to the next item on the agenda, which was the schedule arrangement. We were also reminded to be safe during military training, not to wander off, and especially not to easily believe strangers or advertisements for well-paid part-time jobs off campus.

By the time all this was said, it was almost eight o'clock in the evening.

You Changjin thought there was nothing else to explain, so he suggested that this class meeting come to an end.

"The class president and vice president, don't forget to pick up your military training uniforms at the gate of the third teaching building tomorrow."

You Changjin said this just before he left.

After You Changjin left, all the classmates gathered around Zhou Yuwen to ask about getting their SIM cards, and Zhou Yuwen took down everyone's names who wanted one.

Since they were all classmates, Zhou Yuwen really hadn't thought about making money from them. He simply told them that one dorm room needed only one card. But inevitably, some roommates insisted that one card was inconvenient and they needed two.

On this point, Zhou Yuwen didn't have much to say.

So, a class would need about eight cards.

"Zhou Yuwen, I'd like to get a SIM card as well," Gu Yaoyao came over and said with a smile.

"Eh, aren't you and Liu Yue in the same dorm? If Liu Yue has gotten a card, why do you need another one?" Li Qiang, who was helping out, saw Gu Yaoyao coming over and took the initiative to strike up a conversation.

Gu Yaoyao, quite the smooth talker, said playfully, "I came to look after the class president's business."

The classmates waiting to get their SIM cards from Zhou Yuwen merely laughed at this comment—there has always been gossip about male and female class presidents. They enjoyed speculating about these things.

The kids' hearts were quite innocent; Zhou Yuwen, listening in, was rather helpless, thinking, "Look after what business of mine? You're just teasing me."

Gu Yaoyao was about to hand over the money, but Zhou Yuwen said just registering the names would be fine, and everyone should come to the front of the gymnasium at nine-thirty tomorrow morning to get it all taken care of.

"Then I'll just give you the money now, and you can take care of mine right away, can't you?" Gu Yaoyao blinked her eyes.

"Oh~"

Actually, what Gu Yaoyao said was very run-of-the-mill, but these classmates who had just met loved to egg each other on.

Zhou Yuwen didn't mind it: "Okay, if you trust me, give me your ID card, and after I get the SIM card done, I'll give it back to you tomorrow."

After saying this, Zhou Yuwen added that any students who had commitments tomorrow could also give him their ID cards, and he'd take care of the process for them.

At the mention of handing over her identification, Gu Yaoyao hesitated for a moment.

Just by looking at how Gu Yaoyao was dressed, it was clear that she was no ordinary person—at the very least, her striking looks ensured she received special treatment among her peers.

But against Zhou Yuwen, it was utterly ineffective.

Zhou Yuwen was not at all embarrassed by the teasing from the others and went about his business in a very official manner. Simply put, whether it was Gu Yaoyao or Liu Yue, Zhou Yuwen treated them exactly the same.

Seeing that Zhou Yuwen was completely ignoring her usual effect, Gu Yaoyao followed his instructions just like everyone else.

"Yaoyao, I'll run the errand for you tomorrow and help you get your SIM card," Liu Yue said with a smile. It was the first time she had seen a boy who could ignore Gu Yaoyao's good looks like that, and she found herself gaining more respect for Zhou Yuwen.

But how could Gu Yaoyao, such a beautiful girl, be interested in the kindness of an ordinary person like Liu Yue? She was destined to be with outstanding boys.

So she looked over at Zhou Yuwen, who was busy with his tasks.

Gu Yaoyao handed over her ID card directly to Zhou Yuwen.

"Class president, I'm entrusting you with everything now, you better not show it to anyone else, or else, we are no longer friends!"

Giving your ID card to someone is a big deal for girls, and by giving hers to Zhou Yuwen, Gu Yaoyao was showing complete trust in him.

Zhou Yuwen, after taking the ID card, didn't look at it even once: "Yeah, don't worry about it. Is there anyone else who wants to get a SIM card?"
