Chapter 26: The Ex-Wife Begins to Suspect

As noon approached, the number of people coming to Zhou Yuwen for telephone cards not only didn't decrease but actually increased. In fact, yesterday Zhou Yuwen had pulled in just over eighty valid customers, then Li Shiqi brought Zhou Yuwen twenty more, Liu Shuo brought five, and during the card issuance process, eight or nine walk-in customers were attracted, totaling just over a hundred.

However, Chen Wan thought it over and felt that it would be more profitable to get a commission on Zhou Yuwen's side. Not only did she bring over her thirty-plus users to get their cards, but she also had the five or six walk-in customers her classmates had pulled in brought over as well.

Thus, the queue for Zhou Yuwen's card issuance grew even larger. Li Shiqi, the girl, seemed to be in dire need of money. In fact, she wasn't very good at selling. Her advantage lay in her willingness to learn, like now, she was clearly not adept at socializing, yet she was handing out flyers at the school entrance and patiently inquiring with the new students coming in for registration whether they needed to get a card.

With such a downline, Zhou Yuwen was of course very happy.

"Brother Zhou, I didn't expect you and Li Shiqi to have this kind of relationship!" Liu Shuo, under the tree, draped his arm over Zhou Yuwen's shoulder and said very suggestively.

"What kind of relationship?" Zhou Yuwen was curious.

"Hey, you can't fool me," Liu Shuo said with a wink and a nudge towards Zhou Yuwen.

But Zhou Yuwen replied, "That's ridiculous. It's almost noon, why don't you go to the cafeteria with me and order a few boxed lunches? You and your classmates have been busy for so long, we can't have you going hungry."

"Man, Brother Zhou, you're being too formal. We're all brothers here, and besides, I'm actually enjoying helping out," Liu Shuo said.

Though he said it like that, what needed to be done still had to be done. Nearly two hundred people needed to get their cards, and it was estimated that they would be busy for a while yet. Some boxed lunches were ordered for lunchtime, giving Liu Shuo's group and the business hall staff a break under the trees.

Zhou Yuwen said they were likely to stay busy for a good while in the afternoon.

"Liu Shuo, why don't you take your classmates back first? It's not like we really need your help," Zhou Yuwen suggested.

"Don't worry about it, Brother Zhou. We've got nothing else going on, and we can just enjoy looking at the pretty girls here, plus help out too. Right, guys?" Liu Shuo called out to his classmates, who were eating their boxed lunches under the tree.

They were all quite down-to-earth, grinning and nodding.

Zhou Yuwen felt a bit helpless in response, but with their assistance, the orderliness of the scene had indeed improved.

Meanwhile, Li Shiqi was still busy in the distance, and Zhou Yuwen brought over a bottle of mineral water for her.

"Take a break. There are boxed lunches over there," he said.

When Li Shiqi saw Zhou Yuwen, she smiled and shook her head, "No need, I'm not hungry."

"You still need to rest. There won't be many people getting cards at noon," Zhou Yuwen said.

Li Shiqi looked around and saw that indeed the flow of people was much less at noon, which somewhat discouraged her, but she eventually agreed to Zhou Yuwen's suggestion and followed him to rest under the trees.

"This time, including the people I found at the school entrance just now, I have a total of thirty. You said that if I bring in more than thirty people for cards, you will give me an extra two hundred yuan reward. Do you still stand by that?" Li Shiqi asked with her big watery eyes fluttering.

Li Shiqi's looks definitely were no less than Su Qing's, with her fair face, delicate double eyelids, and at the tender age of eighteen or nineteen, her skin soft enough to squeeze water from.

"It stands! How about I also give you a bottle of mineral water and a boxed lunch for free?" Zhou Yuwen said with a smile.

Upon hearing this, Li Shiqi actually rolled her eyes at Zhou Yuwen and said, "Then you might as well give me the cash."

"Are you in that much need of money?" Zhou Yuwen asked.

The question was actually a bit rude. Li Shiqi didn't know how to respond and just smiled softly.

Fortunately, at that time, an acquaintance came over to get a card from Zhou Yuwen, which relieved the awkwardness.

It was Gu Yaoyao and her dormmates who came over to register for cards.

Even though Zhou Yuwen had said that one card per dorm was enough, Gu Yaoyao insisted on getting one for herself.

When they arrived and saw the grand scale of the card registration that Zhou Yuwen had organized, Liu Yue couldn't help but excitedly ask him, "Zhou Yuwen, how many people are getting cards? How much money are you going to make from this?"

Zhou Yuwen just smiled at Liu Yue and said it wasn't much.

Meanwhile, Gu Yaoyao couldn't help but complain to Zhou Yuwen, "Old squad leader, you've really worn me out this time."

They were both squad leaders, but after Zhou Yuwen had collected the military training outfits and said he had to leave for something else, Gu Yaoyao ended up having to handle all the subsequent tasks, which indeed was quite unethical of Zhou Yuwen.

He could only rely on a sheepish smile to get by, "This is my fault. I'll add an extra 50g to your plan as compensation. Here's your card, and your ID."

"Forget it, I can't even use up all the data you've sent me. You better think of some other way to make it up to me," Gu Yaoyao said, pouting.

"How about I treat you to dinner then? Would that be okay?" Zhou Yuwen suggested.

"Hmm, remember you said that. I'll have to pick a good place," she replied with a hint of playfulness.

Despite Liu Yue's efforts, Gu Yaoyao always seemed to take over the conversation easily, and Zhou Yuwen appeared to get along better with Gu Yaoyao, which made Liu Yue feel somewhat jealous. She had tried so hard, so why was Zhou Yuwen always lukewarm towards her?

Could it be that Zhou Yuwen was one of those superficial guys who judged people by their looks?

After Gu Yaoyao and her dormmates finished registering for their cards, Chang Hao and his group arrived, which naturally included Su Qing and Zheng Yanyan's dorm.

Originally, Chang Hao was planning to treat Zheng Yanyan and her friends to lunch. However, when Su Qing learned that Zhou Yuwen was handling the card business now, curiosity got the better of her, and she wanted to come over to see.

And naturally, Zheng Yanyan would follow along to join in the excitement.

Shen Yu was also part of the group, already aware that Zhou Yuwen wasn't a senior as previously thought.

After all, Su Qing's feelings for Zhou Yuwen were so intense that they couldn't be kept secret. Learning that Zhou Yuwen wasn't a senior disappointed Shen Yu, and she initially didn't want to come for the card registration. However, her curiosity about the relationship between Su Qing and Zhou Yuwen brought her along.

Among their dorm, Zheng Yanyan was the most skilled at dressing up, or rather, the most willing to show skin. Zheng Yanyan was the kind of free-spirited girl who loved to wear denim shorts on a good day, her long, shapely legs turning heads wherever she went.

No wonder Chang Hao followed her around like a drooling puppy.

Just walking alongside Zheng Yanyan on the street, the envious glances from others were enough to make Chang Hao feel proud for quite a while.

Compared to Zheng Yanyan, Su Qing's outfit was more mature: a white blouse with denim jeans and white sneakers, her hair done up like that of an artistic designer.

Just one glance at Su Qing was enough for Zhou Yuwen to feel that something was amiss, but luckily Chang Hao was the first to speak, greeting him.

Zhou Yuwen struck up a conversation with Chang Hao and managed to avoid Su Qing.

Yet, from the look in her eyes, it was clear that Su Qing was beginning to have doubts about Zhou Yuwen.

This was totally different from his previous life!
