Chapter 220: Heaven, Earth, and Sea

Chapter 220: Heaven, Earth, and Sea

Climbing onto the back of a dragon was naturally risky for Ronin. Although a fall from thirty meters might not be fatal, the dragon could ascend much higher at any moment.

"You might survive a thirty-meter fall, but three hundred meters? That's a different story."

Yet, with great risks come great opportunities.

This enormous dragon held a fatal allure for Ronin. Tucked away in his space ring was a contract scroll from a seven-day login reward—a detail not to be overlooked. Dragons, legendary among magical beasts, stood at the pinnacle of the hierarchy.

Capturing this dragon as his contracted magical beast could be a transformative boon for Ronin.

Confronted with such a chance, Ronin was spurred into action.

He hadn't approached the dragon recklessly. From its initial awe-inspiring appearance, Ronin noted signs of fatigue and weakness in its voice upon closer observation.

Moreover, his sixth-level fire magic, Fire Dragon's Sky-Devouring Spell, had not only countered the beast's breath attack, killing Natalia in the process, but it had also visibly wounded the dragon. A truly formidable dragon would likely have remained unscathed.

Ronin surmised that this dragon had not reached its prime, estimating its strength to be around level five or six.

Nonetheless, even if thrown from the sky, Ronin had calculated a fair chance of survival through correct maneuvers.

Facing a weakened dragon of such level seemed an opportunity worth taking.

Many of Ronin's assessments proved accurate. For example, Carlos, the dragon, was indeed at level five and in a weakened state, having been confined here since birth by Natalia using a control horn. The dragon had been starved and oppressed, leaving it physically and mentally debilitated.

In the recent battle, its repeated use of elemental breaths had depleted most of its energy.

Despite its exhaustion, the dragon felt a surge of elation; its plan to escape had succeeded.

Ever since Carlos emerged from the cave, it had been seeking freedom. The moment Ronin cast the powerful Fire Dragon's Sky-Devouring Spell, the dragon seized its chance, absorbing a significant portion of the spell's energy to execute Natalia.

Freedom at last, after years of captivity!

However, Carlos's relief was short-lived as it noticed Ronin had managed to mount it. Stunned for a few crucial seconds, this gave Ronin the opportunity to act. He swiftly used a scroll of Wind Tentacles from his space ring, binding himself to the dragon with strands of wind converted into ropes. This fourth-level wind magic wasn't strong enough to restrain the dragon entirely, but it was sufficient to keep Ronin attached.

Sensing Ronin's actions, Carlos roared angrily and maneuvered abruptly, trying desperately to dislodge his unwelcome rider.

Despite the dragon's efforts to shake him, Ronin remained securely attached, his silver hair whipping around his face as Carlos ascended rapidly, struggling against the binding magic.

The high altitude brought a chilling cold and thinning air, but Ronin, a seasoned Silver Knight, managed to adapt, circulating his fighting spirit to mitigate the harsh external conditions.

Looking down from his lofty vantage point, Ronin saw the landscape shrink dramatically; hills and valleys, vast swamps stretching towards a distant sea, the small town barely visible. All these lay far below, dominated by the expansive, majestic sea.

Ronin reminisced about his envy when he first saw the griffin riders of Blanche at Wushan Castle. Capturing this dragon could end that envy.

As the effect of the Wind Tentacles waned, Ronin prepared another spell, shouting determinedly, "Come on, Carlos, surrender to me!"

Dragons did not respond to words; only force could bend their will.

With a swift motion, Ronin switched to his Flowing Flame Sword, embedding it into the gaps between Carlos's scales. Blood spurted, and the dragon roared in pain.

Carlos, enraged and desperate, folded its wings and dived towards the sea, trying to dislodge Ronin by plummeting rapidly. Ronin managed to hold on, the speed of their descent pressing him tightly against the dragon's back.

With a tremendous splash, they hit the sea, submerged in the cold, salty water. Ronin, skilled in aquatic environments, quickly adapted, sealing his lips and conserving his breath.

Though Carlos struggled to swim, its weakened state soon slowed it down, forcing it to surface for air.

As they broke through the surface, Ronin wasted no time. He unleashed a barrage of Pyroblast spells, bombarding Carlos with fiery explosions that disoriented and overwhelmed the dragon.

Physically drained and mentally battered, Carlos could no longer maintain flight, crashing down onto the beach below.
