The gentle giant

(Amelia)

"Would you mind telling me a little about yourself?" I asked Damien. I wasn't sure if he would tell me because of how he treated me so far, but I was shocked when he started talking.

"What would you like to know?" His voice sounded strained like he was trying his hardest not to get annoyed by my question, but at least he was trying.

"Anything," I replied. I wanted to know about him since I was linked to him. I wasn't sure if I should accept him or not, so finding out more about him will help me with my decision.

"My name is Damien valquerez. I'm a werewolf, a warrior at that." I scoffed, not believing that that was it.

"Oh come on, you can do better than that." He turned to me and glared, but sighed when he saw that I wasn't giving up and started to mumble something about fucking nosy witch.

"Fine, I'm twenty-four years old; I have been working for the king since I was sixteen years old. I don't have a favorite color, anything is fine with me. I don't have a favorite song and I like pizza." I chuckled at what he said since it was not hard to believe.

"Is that all?" I asked, wanting to know if there was anything else he was leaving out. But he nodded his head and didn't say anything else as he continued to walk. Ok, he's boring.

We kept on walking in silence as we entered the dining hall, where I saw others sitting, as well as the king. Furrowing my brows, I wondered who these people were and why is it that I'm just seeing them.

The fairies were flying around, tending to them and making sure that there was enough meal there to last a lifetime.

My breath hitched and I stalled a little but only moved when I felt a push. Glaring at Damien, he laughed which had my heart skipping a beat.

"You're afraid of Sig?" He asked. I shook my head, trying to deny it, but I guess it was evident that I was.

The giant that stood next to the king, looked over to us after hearing his name and started laughing.

"First glances are always the hardest; you'll get used to me in no time," Sig replied, and I was shocked to hear his voice was almost similar to ours. I could understand what he was saying since he was speaking rather clearly.

I swallowed my nerves and nodded my head then made my way towards the table and sat down.

The fairy that was assigned to me earlier Giselle, flew over to me and started to serve me. Looking at the delicious food in front of me, I wasn't sure if I should eat it or not.

"It's not poisoned." The king jokes, making everyone laugh.

"Can't be too careful," I replied while taking up my knife and fork and began eating. My eyes became wide from the different flavors that attacked my taste buds, making me moan in delight as I took another bite. I wasn't even aware of everyone looking at me, I was just too lost in the taste to care.

"Have you gotten through anything yet?" I shook my head at the king's question, wishing that he hadn't brought that up. But thankfully, it did not ruin my appetite as I continued to eat.

"I expect you to be thorough. I didn't bring you here for a vacation, you should have been able to come up with a spell by now." Should I have? If only he knew that I wasn't the one who could break the spell.

Regardless of what I did, it won't affect what was cast on him. Only my mother could do that and as you can see, she isn't going to anytime soon.

"I'm trying my best," I replied, making him nod his head in satisfaction. After the meal, Damien asked me if I would like to get to know Sig a bit better and I hesitantly nodded my head. I wasn't sure if it was a good idea, but I couldn't pass up the opportunity of getting to know a giant.

Sig walked up to us, held his hand out, and told me to jump on, which I did. When he made sure that I was secured on his shoulder, he started to move. It's a good thing I wasn't afraid of heights because I would have been screaming bloody murder right now.

From the looks of everything down below, it was so tiny. But the feeling of being carried like this made me feel free. I smiled as the wind gently caressed my cheeks and closed my eyes so that I could take a moment for myself.

When Sig stopped, I opened my eyes and saw that we were in a garden. He held his hand out, and I got down on it, then he slowly placed me on the ground. I sat on the grass, and he followed, not so gently, which had me laughing. He was also laughing as well.

"I see that you're adapting to your captivity here very well," Sig said, and just like that, memories of how I got here started playing through my mind once more.

"It so happens that I don't have a choice but to adapt," I replied.

"It's not so bad here once you get used to it. I've been living here ever since I was taken away from my family and they haven't treated me poorly." Wait, Sig was also in the same predicament as me? How did I not see that coming?

"You had a home and they took you from it?" I asked. Sig nodded his head but a smile graced his face afterwards.

"It's ok, though; I didn't mind at the time. They gave me an option to help protect the king or my family would be killed, so I chose to serve the king, and as payment, my family is being taken care of." Sig was trying to explain, but I still didn't understand why he wasn't trying to fight harder to be with his family.

"It shouldn't have been like that, don't you miss them?" I asked the gentle giant who nodded his head in return.

"All the time. But, I'm told daily that they are alright and that's all that matters." If only that were true.

We continued to spend the rest of the day talking, and surprisingly, it was now dusk. Damien came to get me in a hurry, telling me that I needed to be in my room and not come out until morning.

I couldn't understand why, but before I could ask him I was already at my room door as he pushed me inside and locked it. I sighed, knowing that this was my life for now; at

At least I had a book that I could use as a way to pass the time.
