The cost of survival

(Damien)

After I spoke to King Alastair and King Trident, I came to my room so that I could take a shower. I stood frozen for a moment, water dripping from my hair and a towel was wrapped around my waist as I stared at Amelia.

She was sitting on my bed, her back straight, avoiding my gaze, but the pink flush on her cheeks didn't go unnoticed.

I hadn't expected her to be here, not after she'd disappeared earlier.

"I heard that you want to find a way to connect with the tree so that you can protect it." Her voice was steady, but something about her demeanor made me wonder if there was more on her mind.

I tightened the towel around my waist and stepped closer, trying to figure out what she wasn't saying.

"I didn't know you were keeping tabs on me," I teased lightly, but when she didn't respond, I sighed and sat down on the chair across from her.
