"Friendship"-Hikaru

"Friendship is the golden thread that ties the heart of all the world together." A quote by John Evelyn. I wrote that quote everywhere. I put it in my school notebook. Every time I turn in an assignment I make sure to add that quote. Every morning that I wake up I remember that quote. That's because I feel like friendship is the golden thread that connects everyone together. In life you can't do everything by yourself. No matter how strong and resilient you are as a person there will be a point where you'll slip up, breakdown, fall. And in those moments you need someone to have your back, someone to vent to, and someone to help you back up. I knew being friends with everyone was just not possible, made even more difficult by the situation the entire school had been placed in. But I, Hikaru Mei, wanted to make sure that I was in a good relationship with everyone that I have met.

So far I had done pretty well. Everyone in the class seemed to like me, and I even managed to make lots of friends with students in different classes and years, though I'd expect that our relationships would grow distant as the school year continued. If some of them even made it that far. I slapped my hands onto my cheeks trying to wipe that horrendous image from my mind. I had managed to make friends with everyone but… Mina. She was the one person that I couldn't even get to hear me out. She was as stubborn as me in her beliefs, and I couldn't even image anyway that I could possibly get her to change her opinions. She believed in total solitude. She called relationships between people superficial, and purposely went out of her way to antagonize the whole class.

That was another problem. I noted as I set down my comb and picked up my bag. I also wanted to make sure that everyone in our class got along and Mina was making it extremely difficult. What could cause her to develop such a negative world view? I thought to myself as I slid into my shoes and exited my dorm room. Parent trouble? Trauma? I needed to find out more about who she was as a person. That's easier said than done. Especially with someone like her.

As I stepped out of my dorm room I saw Asher leaning over the balcony railing, staring into the sunrise with a mystical look on his face. It was early fall, and a chill breeze blew through the air. "Hey there Asher! What are you doing here? Admiring the sunset?"

Asher stood up, turning to face me. "Well for one, I was worried about you walking to school alone. That blue haired weirdo could show up at any time." That made sense, he did say that starting yesterday we can only trust each other. "And also because I wanted to see you." That gave me pause. Not in a bad way either.

"So what did you want to talk about?" I asked as we began to walk down the stairs.

"It's about Mina." That really caught my attention.

"I was just about to ask the same thing."

"You can go first." We both said at the same time. I laughed and Asher gave a slight smile. "I guess I'll go first then." He said. "When I walked into class I noticed that you and Mina were arguing. I hate to be nosy but, what was it about?"

"Oh no problem. I was trying to start a friendly conversation with her but she kept shooting me down. It eventually turned into huge argument about whether or not interactions and relationships with others were important or worthless. And well… you know the rest." We walked in silence for a little bit before I finally asked, "What do you think?"

Asher stopped to think for a few seconds before he finally answered with, "If I'm being honest I'm more on the side for solitude but in a situation like this it is vital that we stay together and connected as a class, seeing as the entire school have know become our enemies."

He was one hundred ed percent correct. As a class, we couldn't hope to waste time bickering around amongst each other. Once again, it was easier said than done considering some of the people that we had in out class. From the group of boys who had already isolated themselves from the rest of the class, to Homura, who had already made enemies of most of the class, all the way to Mina. It was going to be tough to pull our class together, but I could take the first step. "I've realized that yesterday, I must have pushed Mina too hard, and ended up causing needless conflict. Today, Ill make sure to apologize." I declared, as we turned the street corner and approached the school.

Asher looked like he wanted to say something, but he was stopped in his tracks. His eyes widened and his face grew pale. He was staring at the logo of the school. I turned my head around, wondering what he was looking at.

My heart nearly stopped.

Hanging from the logo of the school by a blade that penetrated through their gut was our classmate Charles.
