Chapter 12: Chaos at the Police Station

Under the insistence of Officer Yang, the middle-aged policeman had no choice but to open the interrogation room door. As he walked in, the young man glanced at the electronic clock hanging at the end of the hallway. The date at the bottom read September 22, 2008.

"Why is it only 2008? Shouldn't it be 2010?" the young man murmured to himself.

"Are you out of your mind? Of course it's 2008, the Olympics just ended. I seriously doubt if you're not mentally ill. Stop pretending, and get in there and sit down," Officer Yang said again, her face reddening slightly. The young man's face was just firm, not quite handsome, but the masculine aura he carried was something modern city dwellers lacked. It was enough to make young and old alike feel a flutter of emotion. Yet Officer Yang remained the restrained and professional police officer she was.

Officer Yang took a deep breath, opened her notebook, and the door was pushed open again. The middle-aged policeman walked in with a smile, "Xiao Yang, your experience isn't enough. I'll assist you a bit. You take the lead, and I'll only offer suggestions when necessary." He smiled at her.

"Thank you, Uncle Hai," Officer Yang said with a sweet smile. But then her expression became serious. The young man had merely glanced at her and showed no reaction to her smile. This made Officer Yang, who was accustomed to winning people over with her smile, feel quite uncomfortable.

With a loud bang, she slammed the notebook on the table, trying to mimic the authority of her predecessors. However, the effect was rather humorous on Officer Yang, making her look out of place.

"Name?"

"Yang Huawi."

"Gender?"

"Male?"

"Male... Are you asking for trouble?" Officer Yang threw her pen down and glared angrily.

"Oh, here you say 'male' and 'female,' I'm male," the young man, Yang Huawi, said, looking down at himself and then up at Officer Yang with a very serious expression.

"Hmph, be honest. Date of birth."

"Well, Year 121 of the Holy Calendar. Oh right, according to your Gregorian calendar, it's 2490." Yang Huawi said.

"I... I think you need to be taught a lesson. Show me your ID, hand it over," Officer Yang said, finally losing her temper. She threw the pen far away and stood up, shouting angrily.

"ID? I don't have one. I came here in the buff. Besides my face, I have nothing to prove my identity. I'm telling the truth," Yang Huawi said earnestly.

"Hmph, I'm telling you, this is the police station, not your backyard. Uncle Hai, bring the phone book and the hammer, or the electric baton will do. I need to teach him a lesson," Officer Yang shouted furiously.

"Hey, this kid is unruly. I've dealt with troublemakers before, but this is the first time I've met someone so bold," Uncle Hai sneered, retrieving an electric baton from a corner box. With a switch, it crackled and sparked.

"I'm disappointed with your government's violent institutions. I wanted to cooperate, but you're not giving me a chance. Sigh..." Yang Huawi sighed.

"You..." Uncle Hai was stunned. Modern handcuffs are made of alloys, not ordinary steel, and the strength needed to break them is enormous.

"I hate being threatened with weapons. If you were in the Holy City, you'd have been beaten to a pulp," Yang Huawi said, frowning. He slapped Uncle Hai, sending him crashing to the ground, his head hitting the concrete with a thud. Uncle Hai was knocked unconscious. This was Yang Huawi holding back; if he had gone all out, a single slap could have turned Uncle Hai's head into a mess.

"Stop, or I'll shoot," Officer Yang stammered, pulling out a small handgun and aiming it at Yang Huawi.

Sighing, Yang Huawi extended two fingers and removed the shattered handcuffs from his wrists, looking quite troubled. "You brainless woman, you really irritate me. Put away your little gun. It's useless against me. If you don't believe me, try shooting," Yang Huawi said, walking towards Officer Yang.

Bang, the small handgun went off accidentally in Officer Yang's hand. The bullet pierced Yang Huawi's clothing, struck his chest, and bounced off. Yang Huawi wasn't even scratched.

Yang Huawi took the gun from the stunned Officer Yang, inspected it, and then shook his head. With a sigh, he said, "Such a piece of junk. No wonder humanity almost went extinct. This thing is worthless." He crumpled the gun into a ball of scrap metal and threw it on the ground. Yang Huawi then walked out of the interrogation room. Officer Yang, seeing the crumpled gun, felt tears welling up in her eyes and trembled all over.

Suddenly, Yang Huawi returned, "By the way, these clothes are really uncomfortable. Do you have any other clothes?"

"In there..." Officer Yang, in a daze, pointed in a direction. Yang Huawi nodded and walked in the direction Officer Yang indicated. That was the police station's supply room. He broke in and found a large number of police uniforms. After searching, he found a suitable outfit, put it on, and then replaced his tattered shoes with a pair of police boots.

After Yang Huawi disappeared, Officer Yang shakily approached the phone and dialed the armed police squad's number.

"Armed Police Squad Duty Room," the indifferent voice on the other end only made Officer Yang more anxious.

"We have a monster here. Oh my God, he killed Uncle Hai and crushed my gun into scrap metal," Officer Yang said, bursting into tears.

"Reporting false alarms is illegal," the cold voice on the other end made Officer Yang furious. She wished she could strangle the aloof person on the other end of the line.

"I'm Wang Pengfei, the Captain of the Special Duty Division 13 in Binhai City. We will arrive immediately. If possible, I hope you can try to keep him under control," the person named Wang Pengfei said before hanging up. Officer Yang, still holding the phone, was stunned. To keep the monster under control? How was that possible? But thinking of Uncle Hai and his usual care for her, Officer Yang gritted her teeth and, with trembling legs, walked out.

The young armed policeman in the duty room looked at the man in the black suit who had suddenly barged in. The man, dressed in a black suit and wearing dark sunglasses, was odd enough, but what stood out was the dark cover of the document with the red national emblem, a sight rarely seen for many years.

Ignoring the bewildered young armed policeman, the man in the black suit took out a very ordinary-looking landline phone, pressed a button, and held it to his ear. "Binhai City High-Tech Zone Outer Ring Police Station." After speaking, he hung up the phone, got into a somewhat worn-out Hongqi car, and sped away. The car's acceleration was far beyond what a regular Hongqi could achieve.

"Special Duty Division 13? How did they get involved?" The young armed policeman wiped his cold sweat, and after some thought, he decided to call the squad leader's dormitory.

When Officer Yang Huawi emerged from the supply room, Officer Yang's eyes lit up. The man before her exuded an overwhelming masculine aura. Standing at 1.85 meters tall with short, steel-like hair and a powerful build that stretched his police uniform, his presence was commanding. His black police uniform and heavy police boots made him look imposing. Officer Yang finally understood why he had described his gender as "male" instead of "man." The latter was inadequate to describe him; his presence was more like a fierce lion or tiger, brimming with untamed wildness, unlike the domesticated beasts found in zoos.

"Little girl, stay put. It will get dangerous outside," Yang Huawi said with a smile, pushing Officer Yang back into the interrogation room with a single shove.

"Well... you can't leave..." Officer Yang called timidly from behind Yang Huawi.

Yang Huawi turned around. Officer Yang, with tears welling in her eyes, was huddled by the door. Her exceptional figure and delicate face, combined with her frightened demeanor, were enough to make any man want to comfort her. But Yang Huawi seemed unaffected, merely glancing at her as if she were an ordinary woman.

"Do you want to test me? Forget it, you're too weak. I could handle you with a single finger. Just stop while you're ahead. I don't want to kill anyone. Human lives are precious. You might be useful in the future," Yang Huawi said, rubbing his forehead in frustration. "I don't want to deal with you. You'll only make me more irritable."

"No, no. I was just thinking, since you don't have an ID, perhaps I could help you get one. Otherwise, it will be inconvenient for you outside," Officer Yang said, trying to stay calm despite the complex emotions in her eyes—fear mixed with curiosity about the enigmatic, masculine figure before her.

Yang Huawi tilted his head, his dark eyes fixing on Officer Yang, making her shiver. She slowly lowered her gaze, unable to meet his eyes.

"You're trying to keep me occupied, right? Someone will probably come soon, won't they?" Yang Huawi suddenly said.
