Billie sits in the cafeteria, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of lunchtime. She can't help but overhear the whispers and rumors about Veronica's death. Her curiosity was piqued, and she wondered what had really happened.
As she finishes her lunch, Billie spots Jasher sitting alone at a table, his eyes fixed on the floor. She feels a pang of sympathy for him, and her curiosity gets the better of her.
She thinks of getting up and walking over to Jasher's table to get some information out of him. But she shakes her head. What is she thinking? It is none of her concern. Suddenly, three students stand up, heading towards him.
Billie watches in horror as Coleson and his gang surrounds Jasher, their faces twisted in cruel grins. "Hey, freak," Coleson sneers, "wanna share with us what my father asked you?"
Jasher's eyes dart around, his face pale, as Coleson's gang closes in. Billie knew she had to act fast. She pushes her chair back, her heart racing, but before she can intervene, Coleson's gang drags Jasher outside.
Billie rushes out of the cafeteria, her eyes scanning the courtyard, searching for Jasher and Coleson's gang. She knew she had to find them before things escalate further. The sound of jeers and snickering echoes through the courtyard, making her heart sink.
Billie watches in silence, hiding behind a nearby dumpster, as Coleson's gang beat Jasher to the ground. She doesn't flinch, her expression unreadable.
Just as the gang is about to deliver the final blow, Dana's friends appear behind her. They drag Billie out of her hiding spot, forcing her to crouch next to Jasher's battered form.
“Seems you've got company, Coleson.”
But instead of looking meek or scared, Billie's face is a mask of indifference. Dana's friends sneer at her, trying to intimidate her, but Billie doesn't back down.
"Leave us alone," she spits, her eyes flashing with defiance.
Coleson and his friends snicker amusedly.
“What do we have here? Who's this sweet looking thing?”
Coleson tries to touch her further but Billie fights back, her fists flying. She grabs Jasher's arm, pulling him up, and together they make a run for it.
As they flee the scene, Billie's expression remains steadfast, her eyes fixed on the horizon. She doesn't look back, doesn't flinch, doesn't show any sign of weakness.
As they reach a safe distance from the bullies, Jasher turns to Billie with a hint of gratitude in his eyes. "Thanks for helping me back there."
Billie's expression remains neutral, but her voice holds a hint of curiosity. "Why do you let them bully you, Jasher? You don't seem like the type to take it lying down."
Jasher's gaze drops, his shoulders slumping in defeat. He turns to leave, but Billie's next question stops him in his tracks.
"What really happened to Veronica?"
Jasher's eyes flash with pain, his voice cracking as he speaks. "We used to date. We were happy, or at least, I thought we were. But then...then she started hanging out with Coleson and his gang. I warned her to stay away from them, but she didn't listen."
He pauses, his eyes welling up with tears. "And then she was murdered. I couldn't protect her, I couldn't save her."
With that, Jasher turns and walks away, leaving Billie alone with a heart-wrenching revelation. She watches Jasher disappear into the distance, her expression softening with a mix of empathy and determination.
