EVANDER PERCY
"I don't need a bodyguard"
I say to Mr. Baker who is watching me get ready for my college. Adam Baker is my father's assistant, he is been working for our family for the past 15 years. My father was always busy running as the "King of Albany" and also as a businessman. I never complained about his absence on my birthdays, high school graduation and sports meets where the participation of parents was necessary. Mr. Baker always filled my father's absence. I lost my mother when I was 10, she passed away due to the severe flu. I never missed my mom, as Mr. Baker never made us feel so. By "us" I mean me and my little sister Elanor. Elanor is still in high school, she is a bright and beautiful girl, she takes after our mother after all.
"Your Father has signed with the JK builders despite all the threats he received, it would be better if you and Ela had bodyguards around at least for a week till the chaos settles down"
Mr. Baker was all worried.
"Look, Mr. Baker, Ela should have a bodyguard around, I agree with that, but me? do you think someone is capable enough of pulling strings with me? Don't worry no one would dare to mess with me, and also solve this issue as soon as possible, Ela would not feel comfortable and would start throwing tantrums."
I say assuring Mr. Baker nothing worse could happen.
"Alright, careful ma boy!"
Mr. Baker nodded simply. I was already running late for my college. I had to catch the 8:00 A.M. bus as it was the last bus that could take me to my college, it was already 7:40 A.M. so I skipped my breakfast, grabbed my stuff and exited the palace waving off my sister and Mr. Baker.
Mr. Baker insisted me of taking one of the luxury cars parked in our garage as I was running late but I would never do that because I never wanted to live as "The Prince of Albany" or "A rich boy" among my friends. For my friends and the students of Merlin's University, I was just known as "Evan" a middle class boy with striking grades and charming great personality. The same went for my school years. No one recognized me so far as the last time I made a public appearance as a prince was like 14 years ago when my sister was born and I am 20 now, that was our last appearance as the "Prince and Princess of Albany".
Our father always did his best to hide our identity, to prevent unwanted issues caused by his rivals. But few people dig up and threaten our father. This is exactly what Mr. Baker was worried about. As far for the people of Albany "The prince" was sent to Boston for higher studies, If not Mr. Baker I would have been in Boston by now. My father wanted me to get out of this town for good, I still wonder why. It's been ages since I and my father had a good conversation. My sister was quite opposite she was dad's little princess as the name says. He would give her anything she asked for. I again never had any problems with this as I was happy enough with my simple life.
"Hey, yo! My brother" I see Oliver walking towards me with a bright smile.
Oliver and I have been friends for like 4 years now. He knew all my favorites and general things about me except the fact that I was a Prince. It's not that I wanted to hide it from my best friend, I just hate the fact of being treated differently after revealing my identity.
"Did you hear about the new chick from countryside ? She is Lit man!" Oliver wraps his arms around my shoulder.
"I am too busy to look at girls Oli, Maybe you should try her if you are interested, I would not spill the tea to Amber" Amber was Oliver's 4th girlfriend.
"Nah, I heard apart from looks she is a drip, she would not give me a chance". We chatted till we reached our lockers.
That's when the mishaps happen.
