Chapter 48

Rita noticed Harper's strange expression and asked, “What's wrong?”

Harper shook her head, clearing away her thoughts. “Nothing,” She said, smiling. “We can eat now. Try this dish, Mom, it's so good.”

Annie pushed the dish Harper recommended in front of Rita, who took a tentative spoonful and brought it to her mouth. Suddenly, her face lit up with delight.

She loved her Harper, and although she wasn't her biological daughter, she was kinder and more considerate than Olivia.

Suddenly, Annie leaned over and whispered in Harper's ear. “Luna, look at that lady over there. Why is she looking at you like that?”

Harper looked up and saw the lady she accidentally bumped into in the restroom. Daisy hurriedly averted her gaze, not expecting Harper to stare back at her. But she started to cry, making Harper feel even more uncomfortable.

Charlie, who was outside of Harper's field of view, patted Daisy's back. “Let's just go home.”
