Chapter 52

Jaylani frowned at Khai's words but didn't say anything more. She knew her brother was upset that Nyra was dead, and she couldn't stop him despite her status as an Alpha.

"I'm happy that you're defending Harper," Khai said, his voice low. "But I mean no harm, whether you believe me or not."

Jaylani searched his face, trying to discern the sincerity in his eyes.

"I won't hurt her, Jaylani. Please believe me," He said softly.

"I hope you know that Harper isn't Nyra, Khai. Be realistic—even if they look exactly alike, she isn't your mate. You can't replace her even if Harper wanted to."

Jaylani glanced at Harper, who stood in front of the statue and was lost in her thoughts. Though Jaylani didn't want to interfere with her brother's plans, she had to do something.

"Harper is one of the few friends I have. If you hurt her, you'll regret it."

At those words, Jaylani walked to stand beside Harper and held her hand.
