Chapter 19 - Training the Troops

Garrett was sighing while pinching the bridge of his nose. This was the third day since Byers betrayal and he had hoped it would have gone smoother.

But three things have happened. And only one of them good.

First: the update completed and was very useful. He was able to sell the trash of their rations and empty or destroyed pieces of cloth as single point sells. He was then able to use the base function and turn the City Hall into a base. And was able to buy up expansions to the place.

He bought a training room, a shooting range, a medical room, and a supply room. That was the good news.

Second: every room he bought was 50k. So he used up 200k. And while they do allow someone to gain stat points. This was their description.

Training room lvl 1: For every two hours spent training inside you gain +1 str and Sta to a maximum of 2 points in each stat daily. Maximum stat affected is up to 50. Once user has exceeded 50 then the stat will no longer grow in that room. For next Max stat please purchase to level 2. Cost for upgrade: 100k

The other rooms had similar limitations only each room affected different stats.

Shooting range = Agility

Medical room = intelligence and Sense

It was tough especially when Garrett was the only one who couldn't use the rooms to their full effect with his stats being so high.

He sighed hard and figured he had to figure it out how to gain more points faster.

Which brought up the third event.

Third: He wasn't recovering points fast enough. The General killed the Mayor and Chief of police on his way out and sold half of their supplies on the night of his betrayal. Which was better than losing all their supplies. But it wasn't exactly the best outcome. So Garrett became the survivor camp leader. He was delegating everything he could to those with manager knowledge, defenses, and so on. But while that meant he was leading them to a solid base standing.

His point recovery is horrible.

He had only hunted four dungeons that sprung up close to them to gain back some points. And they were all beginner ranked. Thankfully the second survival week meant they double the point outputs.

But in the end it meant he gained back only 10.4k points back after spending 200k on their base.

Garrett sat in his office while everyone was training, patrolling, or working towards raising the kids so they could defend themselves. It was going well for their skill and stat development, but it could have been better when it came to being in a better point stockpile.

Garrett crushes another stress ball to smithereens as he thinks at how the General and his other alphas must be growing in strength while he is stuck here with little to few ways in getting stronger.

Tapping his heel in annoyance and stress he makes a decision.

He looks to his tabs and knows he needs to find a way to get someone like Bulma into this world. He needs her smarts to run the medical room to teach others, or heck save up for her to be the leader of the medical, botanical, and weapons research division. They need help.

He eyes the OC tab and knows he could save for them. The most expensive of them are only 100k. Which are way more affordable. But he worries about their personalities and how they would act in this world.

He drums his fingers on his desk in further thought then makes a decision.

He would leave his squad in charge today and clear the surrounding 20 blocks out from their base. This way he should be able to gain enough points to either a) Upgrade their base further. Or b) summon some helpers to increase their defenders or researchers for their group.

Either option will be good. But first he needs to recover those points. And thankfully his voucher is still active to be used when he is ready to summon the first member.

He rushes out to the training room and finds Tomoe and Mboto currently with a group of men and women around 25 in number who are trying to earn those points for the day. Thanks to whatever the system does for them it is working, but 3 days of work shows they have improved only slightly. Especially when they estimated the civilians stats to be starting from an average of 15-20. The soldiers are still getting points. But they are already around 25-30 like he was in the beginning.

Garrett says, "Tomoe! Mboto! I'm heading out to clear the perimeter from any new nests! You two alongside Hicks and Marina are in charge while I am gone. Understood?"

Tomoe who could look away from her current batch of female trainees doing a jumping jack marathon nods and salutes with a, "Yes Sir!"

Mboto who is spotting a bunch of Weight holding squatters says, "Yes Sir!"

He nods and grabs his hunting gear and rushes out the door. He checks his stats and points from the last three days, and it was dismal since he could barely spare any points for stat gems. He was sad to see his growth basically slow to a crawl at this points.

Garret Grimsborne (Super Human):

Str- 319 +10 = 329

Agi- 300 +10 = 310

Sta- 285 +10 = 295

Int- 253 +10 = 263

Sense- 255 +10 = 265

Store points - 276,200 - 200,000 (Base modifications) - 10,000 (Stat Gems) - 25,000 (Doom infinite energy pistol) +1,250 for garbage sold +10,400 for zombie hunting = 52,850

It was better but the fact remained that he was in desperate need of points to improve their base, get people a higher stat limit in their training rooms, more survivors, more reinforcements through the shop, continue to improve their gear, etc.

He pats his hip as he puts on his belt with his new pistol, it was pricey, but the basic energy pistol from Doom 2016 did wonders for his ammo needs. And he was planning to make them standard issue for all defenders once he has saved up... 875k points.

Garrett sighs hard once again as he goes, "I'm going to need a fucking vacation room in the base once we are better settled in." He finishes putting on his broad sword, his knife, and his war hammer form Dragon Quest and makes sure that the basic iron sword is given to Mboto in his locker for any defense needs while he is gone.

Garrett puts on his armored coat, his boots, and rushes out through the front into the surrounding blocks to see what all he can hunt and take down. While keeping in mind the ever growing list of needs for his camp and base. He was going to be busy the next few weeks.

And he grows excited as his first target appears before him in the form of a trio of zombies. They were much stronger now that their base stats are 30 on average. And he knew they would give him some much needed points. He brings out his broadsword and cleaves the first in two, the second one gets a trio of energy blasts the pop its head like a grape, and the final one gets his reinforced armored boot through its skull with a high side kick from Garrett.

He grins at the feeling of omnipotence he is feeling rushing through his body and looks up at the buildings. He finally finds one that is a Medium dungeon and grins before rushing right in. He needs those points!
