The priest’s voice was grim. "Because they defy the gods. They summon horrors that devour worlds. It is not just power—it is corruption given form."  

A student hesitated. "But could one not use that power for—"  

“Silence!” The priest’s eyes burned with fervor. “There is no redemption for a summoner. And now, they speak of the worst of them all—a Summoner of Shadows. A heretic who will plunge the world into eternal darkness. He is the epitome of evil, and when he rises, he will destroy us all.”

Cedric watched the notifications float for a second before dismissing them. He looked around the small cavern and found that it was mostly held by his shadow. It had risen to keep Cedric safe from the crumbling debris while he was unconscious.
