"Lawyer Gu, please take a seat," the man called out to Gu Nanyan, then ordered the servant, "Make tea for Lawyer Gu."
After Gu Nanyan took her seat composedly, the servant brought her the tea, "Lawyer Gu, please enjoy your tea."
At that moment, the man lit a cigar, the smoke swirling around. Gu Nanyan frowned, but the man didn't put out his cigar.
Looking directly at Gu Nanyan with a half-smile, the man said, "Lawyer Gu, you take your work very seriously, don't you?"
Gu Nanyan took a gentle sip of her tea and replied with a light smile, "Is that why President Cheng has sought me out for a case?"
The smile gradually faded from the man's face as he tapped the ash from his cigar, "How much can a lawyer earn in this business?"
Gu Nanyan responded, "Just enough to get by."
As soon as her words fell, the man's expression darkened. He pressed out the cigar in the ashtray and, looking up at Gu Nanyan, said, "Just enough to get by, and yet you won't cooperate even for eight million?"
