CHAPTER 2: IN DENIAL

MELANIE's POV

Melanie

"Friz's movie's theater?" I asked her as we stood outside the theater. She drove us 30 minutes to this theater along the beach. I heard it was nice theater, a little chilly but nice and quite because it was a little expensive i assumed. Plus, the board showed they were three movies playing; Dune, Beetlejuice and IT, so it was so far the best theater i had been at. The last time i went to the movies i was forced to watch The Avatar movie for 2 hours straight with a lame guy who couldn't stop staring and picking his nose as he stared at me. He even had the audacity to take a handful of popcorn from my laps.

"You like movies don't you??" She asked me. I looked around. The place really seemed so quite and peaceful. I smiled at her. She pushed me to get inside. It was even more beautiful than outside. I liked the interiors and how they didn't have too much bright colors like they usually do in other theaters.

"You know i do...I'm even in a dilemma now what movie are we going to watch...these three are good I've heard..." i said

"I'll watch whatever you wanna watch" she said to me.

"But..."

"I'm going to buy us our tickets, grab us some snacks and drinks then I'll come meet you here, I'm sure by then you'd be done deciding what movie we should go for..."

She said as she quickly walked backwards. She was wearing a white t shirt with a blue and white striped short sleeved shirt on top, a baggy rich grey denim short with Jordan 6's and white socks over his ankles. He had a crossed bag acoss his shoulder and a cap too. I had just then realised how masculine she looked today. She was always masculine but with the eye watering cologne she was wearing was an added bonus. She looked so strong, not mmmmmmmm strong but yes, I got the idea.

I stood there and waited till she got back 10 minutes later. She was in a bright mood.

"Our sits, luckily are not that far from the front, just the 4th row...and they only had buttered popcorn, i wasn't sure if you'd like it but since that was the only type left, i brought those....oooooh and i brought these drinks too, i know you like pineapples as fruits wasn't sure if you'd like a pineapple drink, it looked so refreshing so i just bought two...and some chocolates and crackers, and fuck anyone who's going ti to complain about you eating crackers in a theather" she said as as was handling me the snacks.

"I'm sure the movie will be loud" i giggled. She was so sweet. She looked at me, still smiling.

"Riiight" she said.

"And i choose beetlejuice" i said. She pouted her lips.

"What??" I asked her giggling.

"Beetlejuice?? Mahn you have such a boring taste in movies" she laughed.

"I can't tell if you're just being facetious, have you seen the trailer??" I asked her as i looked at her sharply.

"You don't judge movies based on the trailers" she laughed.

"Then based on what??" I asked her. She just kept nodding her head in disbelief.

Then i noticed some woman walking in with her two kids, staring at us. I awkwardly looked down as i brushed my hair behind my ear. Nurul ignored me.

"Let's go in..." she said as she grabbed my hand and walked in, showed the bouncer at the door our tickets and he led us to our sits. The place was amazing. Felt likr i was in a different city. Didn't realize how developed our town was becoming and i felt like a proud citizen. I for one enjoyed the movie, unlike Nurul who kept stealing glances from me ever since we got in the theater. I wasn't sure if she was at the theater to watch a movie with me or to watch me instead. She also kept eyeing my hand so when i reached out for the popcorn she would find an eccuse to touch my hand and play with my fingers. Her knee kept touching mine as she kept whispering sorrys to me because she accidentally bumped my knees. I asked her how the movie was after and she just smiled at me while nodding her head, Amazing is what she said. My so boring taste in movies was Amazing to her. And surprisingly i wasn't even mad she acted obsessed with me. I loved it.

We sat by the bench outside the theater after as we looked at the beach from a far.

"Wanna head down there??" She asked me. I looked at her sharply then stared back at the beautiful sight of the beach.

"Not today...maybe next time " i said.

"Melanie??"

We turned to the boy who was standing at our backs carrying a gift bag with a big grin on his face.

"Ken??" I said as i quickly stood up from the bench.

The boy looked more suprised. He stared at Melanie and then at me. I was sipping my drink staring right back at him.

"What are you doing here??" Me and Ken asked each other at the same time and started laughing. Nurul stared hard at Ken as if he had seen him from somewhere before.

"Well...I'm here to watch a movie...obviously... hello??" He said as he waved his hands up sarcastically. Implying he was there for the movies of course.

"You're meeting someone??" I asked as i pointed the the gift bag with my head.

"Oooh yes...I'm meeting my boy...uhhm i mean my homeboy...it's his birthday so i want to give him this" Ken answered awkwardly. Then pointed with his head too towards Nurul's direction.

"Ooooh...That's Nurul, my friend, Nural, this is my friend Ken, well, our mum's were best friends in college so we basically became best friends growing up, i don't know how you two haven't met before till now...he's close to our family too" i said.

"Nice to meet you, Ken" Nurul said to Ken

"That's because you've been way too focused on singing and i have been helping mun back at her shop so we haven't even had time to meet and snuggle" he jokingly said. "I know you miss me Cel"

Ken liked calling me Cel, short for Celine. As in Celine Dion. He used to tease me that i was trying so hard to copy her voice. My singing voice sounded nothing like Celines'

"Yeah i know...you're going to come to my audition right??" I asked him.

"I wouldn't miss that and you know it...so you guys just got here or??" He asked.

"Well...we..."

"Nooo...we just finished a movie now we're just sitting before we head back to eat....you just got here??" Nurul cut me. I was certainly positive she said that to push him away. But i wanted to know. If he was here earlier and if he had seen me and Nurul together in the theather. I suddenly became anxious. Then his phone rung.

"Uuuhm guys, i need to go...eeeehr Mel, talk to you later, and uuuhm Nuraal, nice to meet you too" He said as he walked away with an awkward grin on his face. Then i saw him picking up his phone from the distance. I turned and sat back on the bench.

"His homeboy??" I laughed. "He is obviously meeting his new girlfriend or something...he thinks I'm 9??" I continued.

Nural looked sharply at me.

"Eeeeehr..." she whispered.

"What?" I asked her. She was still looking at me. Then she took a big slurp from her drink.

"Nothing" She said.

"Uuuhm that didn't look like nothing" I said to her.

"Well...it is" She replied. I rolled my eyes at her.

"Are you sure you're okay??" I asked her.

"Uhuh" she said. "We should grab ourselves some real food after this right??" She continued.

"Real??" I asked.

"Come on, you can't be full with popcorn and crackers...i want to take you out to a good restaurant and yes, eat a real and delicious meal with you" she said with one eyebrow raised at me, acting all sassy. I giggled.

"Fine, we'll go eat" i found myself saying.

She smiled at me brightly as she opened another pack of crackers she quickly took from her bag. She then grabbed two strides of crackers and stretched her hand towards my face for me to eat them. I slowly looked around to see if no one's watching before pulling back and taking them from her hands and fed myself.

"You don't want me to feed you??" She asked me. I froze.

"No, it's not like that" i answered her. She nodded then stretched her hand towards me 7, with a drink in her hand. I looked at the drink and then at her.

"What?? Can't drink out of my straw??" She asked me. I rolled my eyes at her.

"Again, no...it's not like that" i said. Shen then tilted her drink more towards me.

"My hair pin" i whispered, almost too loud as i was strocking my hair.

I looked around to see if people were watching but i made it seem like i was looking for my hair pin. Noone was on sight, except from people at the beach who were too far to notice anything from there and some two gentlemen laughing near the theater's entrance. They looked so deep in thier own conversation to be minding what was going on on our bench. So i decided to take a sip from her drink so i quickly did and she smiled while signaling me to take another sip. I smiled, as soon as i leaned over for another sip as she titled the cup more, i then eyed four men walking slowly towards us chanting from a distance. I panicked and pushed her hand away from my face. I heard her gasp as the drink then spilled all over her white shirt. One lady who had just walked past us had her jaw dropped at this sight. Even the four men eyed us more and i heard one of them whisper to his friends while they walked past us. I turned to her with a shocked face.

"I am so so sorry " i said as i reached out to her to help her as she threw away the rest of the drink and was taking her bag off and leaving it on the bench then removed the shirt she wore on top. She pushed me away and quickly stood up.

"I can't... i can't...i just can't...." she said looking at me sharply while raising her hands up.

"I can't...i give up" she repeatedly said. I could hear the pain and the seriousness in her voice.

"I'm so sorry" i said again as i closed my eyes and she sighed deeply.

"I am trying so hard to be patient with you Mel...it's just so hard..." she said nodding her head in disbelief. I stood up too. She was pacing around impatiently in front of me.

"I can't..." she said it again.

"It's just too much for me and I'm sorry...??" I said as a tear fell down my cheek. She looked at me and sighed again. She stared at me for a moment before taking her bag from the bench and started walking away. I grabbed her arm.

"Please" I whispered. She slowly brushed my hand off her arm.

"Let's just go home" she sadly said as she walked away. I watched her as she slowly walked away from me. I took a deep sigh as I closed my eyes. Another tear fell down my cheek. I wished things were different.

We drove back home in silence. I didn't even ask her if we weren't going to eat out like she said we would earlier. She dropped me off at my place and quickly drove off. As much as she was mad at me, I didn't have it all figured out like she did. I was still new to everything and I just needed her to be a little more patient and understanding.
