CHAPTER 11 -"you want to go get laid?”

CHAPTER 11

ALAIN

I stare at my ringing phone on the table, it's the fourth time it's been ringing since I got into the office today.

"Jayla, can you please try to figure it out yourself? I'm busy with work, and need all the focus I can get." The sudden outburst, definitely expected. I knew it would come but it took long enough.

"Okay," the only thing that came from her before the call ended.

I toss the phone to the couch by the side.

The first official board members meeting will be held soon. The planning, invitations, and publicity are solely on me, no mistakes expected.

I go through the list of board members, and my eyes fall on Kendall's name. It had names of all the new members in it. My eyes linger on Kendall's name for a bit before I reach out for the company stamp to place it on each names to show that the invitation has been sent.

KENDALL

I step into my office and crash on the rolling chair which sends me into a twirl. Checking the company's mail every morning has become a routine, not that I have to do it. I heave a sigh while staring at the mail on top; it's a board members meeting at R.A.S and I hate the idea of it. I'll need Riley to boost my morale for the next one week, before the D-Day.

The urge to text Jayla like Riley suggested is so high, so I pick up my phone and do just that.

"Hey, I know we're not having our best moments right now but can we please talk over lunch tomorrow?"

I almost slamp my phone on the table as I turn to drop it screen down. Now I feel like a teenager who sent a risky text to her crush. Seconds turn into minutes and into hours, yet there isn't any reply from her. If Riley asks, at least I tried.

I walk into the penthouse to see a barely clothed Jayla in the living room. Ryan walks in after me, and drops my suitcase hastily before heading out.

"Hey, baby." She says wearing a seductive smile. She pushes herself off the couch and stands in front of me within few seconds.

"Hey," I reply pulling her in for a kiss which she deepens. My hand travel to her neck and I pull away causing her face to drop. "I had a busy day."

I stare at her for a bit then realization hit me. I feel no sexual attraction towards the woman in front of me.

"You do look really tired. I may have put things together for dinner." She trails her finger down my shirt, and a smirk forms on my lips.

"Never heard anyone sound so uncertain about something they did. You sure I won't regret trying it?"

Her laughter covers the whole room and I can't help but smile too.

"Ken always looked forward to eating my meals. Come on."

My smile falls at the mention of Ken's name but I follow her anyway.

I take my seat and she serves. I'm hit with an aroma of chicken soup with rice which tastes just as good as it smells.

There's a lingering grin on Jayla's face. A confident one that screams, "I told you so." But before I get the chance to compliment her cooking, she cuts me off.

"To compensate for thinking even for a bit that I am a bad cook," I let out a laugh but she continues, "have lunch with me tomorrow. You can't say no. I'll send you an address too."

I nod without any hesitation. I wasn't going to win this anyway.

"Okayyyy! Let's have a great meal then."

The sound of my alarm keeps blaring. I knew it was a bad idea to get foot alarm, but I did anyway, now I have to stand on it before it goes off. And that's exactly what I'll do.

I dash into the bathroom and walk right out in minutes. Trust me, my hygiene level is just great.

Heading to my wardrobe, I pick out a pink silk top and grey pants - one of those colour combos that never really makes sense but turn out great, anyway.

In the kitchen I pull out my supplements, and place an order for breakfast for Amy. It's one of those things I never had to worry about when I had Jayla.

We were like couples - I focus on the finances, and she ensures everything is set and in place here at home. A small smile forms on my face as I reminisce on the good times.

"Morning, baby." I say walking into Amiras' room. She's still cuddled up in a fetus position. "Breakfast will be here soon, I didn't get up early enough to make one. I love you. Have a great day." She giggles at my rambling which makes me laugh.

"It's fineee. I would have made breakfast myself but thank you for saving me from the stress. I love you too."

My phone rings dragging me back to reality.

"I'll see you when I'm back." I say kissing her on the forehead before rushing out.

"Oh God! Riley."

"This better be worth it." I say in a growl as I walk past Riley.

"You know your clients better, ma'am. They always want to meet you in person." She says in a mocking tone, earning a glare from me. "And, there's an application for Jayla's position. I just forwarded it to you. There has also been an email from R.A.S for the first board meeting we will be taking part in." She breaks to breathe.

"And?" I ask, waiting for more updates.

"And, nothing more for the day."

"Asshole." I breathe.

"I never asked you to own the best fashion house." She says and we both laugh as she walks off.

A text comes into my phone. It's from Jayla. She wants to have lunch only if I let her choose. I scoff before texting her back, and she replies almost immediately with an address. I guess she already picked that out.

I pick up my keys and head to Riley's office.

"I'm off to relieve myself of the stress you scheduled for me, today." I say immediately I step in.

"It's still noon, Ken. What do you mean by "you want to go get laid?"

"God, Riley! I never said that." I turn, looking around, making sure no one else heard that.

"What do you mean then?"

"I'm out for lunch. I can't deal with you today."

I walk out with her laughter trailing behind.

"Asshole." I mutter.
