Chapter 17 Sea Monster

"Someone ran away! Someone ran away!!"

Just as the lifeboat was started, there was a sudden shout from upstairs. Jiang Mi didn't look back and focused on driving.

There were floating objects everywhere on the water, and even some submerged protrusions. If she wasn't careful, the lifeboat would most likely run aground and be damaged. Although there were spare ones in the space, they were a non-renewable resource after all, and she was reluctant to waste them.

Fortunately, she was very familiar with the surrounding terrain. Even though the sea water had changed a lot, she could drive according to the route she remembered and avoid some floating objects on the water. At least there wouldn't be any major problems on the way leaving Moon Bay Apartment.

"Where are you going! Take me with you! Please take me with you! I don't want to die!..."

Perhaps it was that man's voice that awakened the other survivors in the apartment, and shouts for help rang out one after another. Seeing that the family had no intention of turning back, the desperate survivors began to curse and some even jumped off the building and tried to swim to the boat from the sea.

But the result was that not long after entering the water, he disappeared on the surface with a scream.

The other survivors who didn't have the courage could only watch the lifeboat disappear before their eyes.

The Moon Bay Apartment is not very big. Normally, it only takes ten minutes to drive in and walk around. But in the current situation, it is much more difficult to get out. By the time I saw the gate of the Moon Bay Apartment, which I remembered, half an hour had passed.

The temperature outside has now dropped to nearly ten degrees, especially in the early morning. The cold air is mixed with a strong smell of sea vapor, making people shiver. However, Jiang Mi's forehead is covered with a thin layer of sweat because of his concentration.

"If you're tired, let me drive." Jiang Xun said gently while observing the water around him.

Jiang Mi nodded and did not refuse.

The lifeboat slowly sailed out of the gate of Moon Bay Apartment, and what came into view was a fairly wide area with several commercial buildings standing around it.

Now there is no navigation, Jiang Mi was trying to identify the direction while getting ready. Just after sailing for a distance, he felt the ship shake violently, as if it had hit something.

"alert!"

Jiang Xun warned in a low voice, holding the dagger in his hand and scanning the sea like an eagle. Soon, he keenly noticed a black shadow swimming under the boat, which looked like a fish.

"There's something." He gestured and stared at the black shadow without blinking.

Father Jiang, who was close to him, also became nervous. He picked up the harpoon beside him and aimed it at the black shadow.

Jiang Mi glanced at the sea out of the corner of her eye and saw the black shadow, but the thing was always swaying in the deep water, and occasionally swam to the bottom of the boat and hit it. She had no way of telling what it was, so she could only slightly speed up the lifeboat, hoping to get rid of it.

But the thing seemed to be entangled with them. She increased her speed and the thing also increased its speed, always making tentative attacks around the lifeboat.

"This harpoon seems to be electrified. How about using it?" Father Jiang looked at the harpoon in his hand carefully and made a suggestion.

Jiang Xun didn't answer, his eyes fell on Jiang Mi in front of him.

After Jiang Mi noticed it, he thought for a moment and said, "This lifeboat has a coating that can be electrified, but be careful of the range. I suspect there should be more than one type of sea monster around. If we attract too many, we will be in danger."

Father Jiang nodded, a hint of excitement in his eyes. He rubbed his palms with saliva and then tightly grasped the harpoon, "Hey, little bastard, have a taste of my power!"

After saying that, he waited for the right moment, grasped the harpoon and stabbed it hard at the black shadow. When the two came into contact, the harpoon felt a huge recoil force, and Father Jiang's body tilted backwards as he did not sit firmly, and the harpoon almost slipped off.

"Wow! This thing is made of iron?!"

After a bad start, Jiang's father, who wanted to show off, was a little angry and looked at Jiang's mother who was staring at him nervously. "If I use this fork, even a shark will be pierced. What the hell is this thing!"

Jiang Xun kept staring at the strange thing. When the harpoon pierced its body, the thing was forced down a bit in the water by the force. Then it twisted its body and crawled out from under the harpoon. It looked like it was indeed not injured.

Then, probably due to the discharge of the harpoon, the strange thing froze after swimming twice. Father Jiang stared at it fiercely, and the harpoon in his hand continued to release voltage. After about dozens of seconds, the strange thing finally fell slowly into the deep water.

Father Jiang then put away the harpoon, wiped the sweat from his forehead, and snorted coldly: "Humph, if I can't stab you to death, can't I electrocute you to death?"

Mother Jiang gave a thumbs up and said, "The old man is still strong and healthy!"

Father Jiang raised his head proudly, holding the harpoon and standing beside him, pretending to be Guan Gong and stroking his non-existent beard, "That's it, don't you look at who I am!"

Jiang Xun smiled faintly, shook his head and continued to observe the water surface.

A small water monster that did not pose much threat still raised his vigilance to the highest level. He did not dare to let his guard down at all before actually reaching the air-raid shelter.

Fortunately, as the sun rose higher, the strong sunlight not only dispelled the cold, but also greatly enhanced visibility in the water. The lifeboat was never attacked by any sea monsters along the way, but they saw a black ball of something rolling in the water in a corner where the sun could not reach.

It looks like a group of tadpoles magnified countless times.

The sight of that tangled, wriggling mass made one feel nauseous.

At noon, the family had a simple lunch of bread and milk, and Jiang Xun took over from Jiang Mi as the next driver.

"There is someone! A living person! A living person! A real living person! Great! Save me! Save me!"

Passing by a high-rise building again, a head popped out of the window, waving his arms and shouting excitedly.

There were countless survivors who had asked them for help along the way. Jiang Mi calmly withdrew his gaze and didn't look at them any more, but in his heart he was counting the number of survivors he had met.

The city of H where she is now is on the coast and is one of the cities hardest hit by the tsunami. There are relatively few survivors. So far, she has only seen dozens of survivors, and this is what she has seen after crossing nearly half of the city.

Although H City is not a top-tier city, it has a population base of more than 18 million. But now there are only so few survivors. Although the actual number may be more than this, the survival rate is still shocking.

The lifeboat quickly sailed away again, leaving the cry for help behind. Jiang Mi looked at the sun, which was setting. It was already five o'clock in the afternoon, and the shadows cast by the large buildings began to make the water monsters move.

"We have to speed up." Jiang Mi walked to his brother and whispered, his eyes falling on the surrounding water, a faint sense of danger rising in his heart.
