Picking a fight.

Today was a very special day for the seventeen-year-olds of Thena, today was the day they got to pick their career specialization.

Thena High was not the school created to teach people how to combat Mythos monsters, instead it only serves to prepare the students for the academy and to give them a head start.

Once an individual had been bound to their god, it was crucial that they needed to begin learning what specialization suited their beasts the most to achieve greatness.

There were mainly two types of godly abilities, the Support mage-type abilities and the Battle-type abilities.

Support mage-type ability users, were mostly versed in spells involving support like healing, buff spells, strategy spells, communication spells, reconnaissance spells etc.

Sure their abilities might not be useful in battle but without a healer and an informant every one who stepped foot in a portal would die instantly.

Battle Mage type ability users were the least important and just involved killing beasts, their abilities usually ranged from lightning storms to otherworldly attacks that'll make even gods give them respect.

Some strong enough gods could do both, a perfect example of this are followers of Athena, they possessed high levels of wisdom which made them master strategists and at the same time possessed battle skills that made them a force to be reckoned with.

These type of god users were called Maverick's, and they were not that rare, maybe 1 in 10 people would be a maverick.

Kai had come to school today for the sole reason of picking a specialization, the only reason he had even been going to school in the past was that the laws of Thena only allowed literates to go for the god bonding ritual.

Kai was just outside the school gate wearing his usual rags after his uniform was des, everyone gave him weird stares while some even covered their noses as he passed but he couldn't care less.

Kai walked into the school gate and the ceremony of picking a specialization had begun, Kai quickly found a place to hide quietly and listen to the speech.

"Yesterday, it is most likely that some of you became unstoppable forces of power among your peers, while the others realized a devastating truth.

However, I urge you not to be disheartened, no matter what god you were bound to, you can still excel as a Vanquisher, always trust in the gods.

Today you would make an irreversible decision, today you would pick one or more specializations and it would stick with you for life, please I urge you not to be fools and go pick something that does not suit you, please pick with wisdom. " The headmaster who was an old fat man said.

Soon three masters climbed atop the podium, there was a sound-amplifying crystal that acted as a speaker and microphone levitating a few inches beneath their mouths.

"These are your teachers for each specialization, these would be the men and woman who would brutally train you until you are deemed ready.

I hereby present, the 3 masters of Thena

Lady Fairmont Carrie of the Maverick's specialization

Sir Wickslow Nathan of the Support Mage's specialization

Under each specialization there were still multiple paths one could pursue, healer, forge master, reconissancce, warden, rune master etc.

Each of the masters stood proud and tall, they were the best Thena had to offer, they were all fully trained natives of Thena and were active vanquishers.

Everyone stared at the 3 masters in admiration, each wishing to be like them, all except Kai who just stared at them blankly.

"I am sure that by now all of you are familiar with the various specializations and their buildings, so please whatever specialization you feel suits you, kindly head there. " The headmaster said.

After a person was bound to their gods, they would pick a specialization and begin training in that specialization until it was time for the grand selection, Where they would be tried on if they would be accepted as members of the Magus academy.

A person could pick only one specialization but learn multiple aspects of it.

The departments were separated into various buildings which were a reasonable distance apart from each other.

Kai was already on his way headed to the Battle Mage department, he knew he would be more suitable as a support mage-type but he didn't give a damn.

"Hey trash, what are you doing here? " Kai heard a hoarse voice from his left, and he could feel someone touching his shoulder.

Kai looked around only to see a boy with blue hair and eyes, he was a bit short 2 heads shorter than Kai, he had an overconfident smile on his face and a scar ran across his left eye, on his right arm, the marking of a gecko could be seen.

Kai could not let such a beautiful offer go, the more EXP he gained, the more powerful he would ultimately become.

"Why are you calling me trash? Do I look like your father? " Kai asked with a mocking smile on his face, leading to a gasp, everyone was surprised and waited in anticipation for what Nathan planned to do against Kai.

Nathan was a well-known small-time bully, he was not powerful but he was skillful in comnat, he was feared among the poor but to the rich he was just an idiot.

"Do you want to die, rag boy? " Nathan asked with fury written all over his eyes, his claws began to extend and it was clear he meant business.

"Your stupidity itself could kill me, so I won't underestimate you, quickly go read a book at the library before you begin spreading your plague of stupidity, who knows? You might start another apocalypse if care isn't tsken." Kai said, his voice laced with mockery.

"How dare you all even think of starting a fight. " A deep and loud voice thundered across the skies,Lady Fairmont's voice could be heard.

Kai looked to the skies only to see Lady fairmont without a smile on her pale white face, she had a black fan in her hand and a thunder marking on her forehead.

Lady Fairmont was a strikingly beautiful woman with long ashen hair and soft grey eyes, any male who looked at her would undoubtedly feel something.

Se descended from the skies right in between Kai and Nathan like an absolute goddess.

"How dare you even think of fighting, without informing me, I love watching fights. " Lady Fairmont said with a smile on his face.

'I am going to beat the crap out of this bastard. ' Kai thought and a grin appeared on his face.
