Stubbornness sometimes has no limits (2)

"Of course!" Adiklus let out a bark in agitation. He said to him, "Healer Gavin is the only one who can help us and anyway, there is no need to feel offended and angry. After all, this is how we have always been treated. As a low-grade species, we need to be servile and obedient to the higher ones."

His voice turned into a whimper as he finished speaking.

"So what you are saying is that you are going to kneel outside all day and beg for him to heal you?" Damien asked the beastman with indignation. He couldn't believe it, as someone who had the power to save a life, how could these healers treat life so lightly?

"What other choice do we have?" Martha sniffed from the side. She was so nervous that two little mouse-like ears were twitching on the top of her head. "Only a healer can help Sigurd. Who knows what kind of blade that cursed man used, no matter what kind of ointment we use the bleeding just doesn't stop."

"If you want... I can connect his nerves. It is a small process—we just need t—"

"There is no need," Adikus stubbornly refused. He glared at Damien with red-rimmed eyes and said to him, "He is already in so much pain and trouble, I am not going to leave him in the hands of someone who cannot even use magic to heal."

"He is like my brother do you think that I will let experiment on him!?"

"Who said anything about experimenting anything?" Damien snarled as he dropped the upper body of the dog beastman on the side of the street. "Can you not see that there is something wrong with his condition? If you just let me treat him then his chances of survival will be higher. If you don't then I can assure you that he will not survive more than four hours if he continues to bleed like this."

"This is no time to quibble like this!"

"Then I will take him to a healer who lives on Moon Bay Street!" Adikus retorted. With his eyes burning with rage he picked up Sigurd from the street. "I will do everything to save him but there is no way I will let a crook like you play with his life."

"You—"

"Leave them be, Lord Damien," said Xavier as he pulled Damien back. "Dog beastmen are stubborn and highly disciplined, they do not break the norm that they're made to follow. Since he believes that only a healer could save his friend, let us leave it at that—you have done whatever you can."

Damien pursed his lips. For a second he thought of using the persuasion skill but then he heard Dan say,

"It doesn't work like that," he heard Dan say, when he turned to look at the 3D hologram floating right next to his head, he heard Dan say, "For the persuasion skill you need certain fame points which would make others respect and fear you. You currently don't have any."

'Wonderful,' thought Damien, if there was the most useless system award then let him hand it to this guy.

He glanced at Adikus who was staring at him warily and sighed. "Fine, do whatever you want." Since he didn't want Damien to treat his colleague then he wouldn't push it either. After all, he also had pride.

With that, he turned on his feet and walked away leaving

Adikus let out a sigh of relief, however, he still continued to eye Damien with growls rumbling in his chest. It wasn't until the two of them walked away did Adikus let out a sigh of relief.

Martha turned to look at Adikus and asked, "Is this okay? I mean if —if that man can help us. Then we can ask him to take a look at Sigurd.. he is bleeding too much, Adikus."

"You do not understand, Martha," Adikus said gruffly. He stubbornly believed that Damien was just trying to cause trouble and nothing more. "I have heard all about that man, he is the discredited crown prince and he has been obsessing over his grand return to the capital for ages. Do you truly believe that he can help Sigurd?"

It wasn't that he looked down on Damien but he didn't trust that man. He had lost everything and yet hadn't given up. A man as crazy as him could do anything.

They were just low-ranking beastmen whose life and death did not concern the higher-ups. So even if Damien were to make a mistake which resulted in the death of Sigurd..no one would say a word to him.

Punishment was simply out of the question.

When Martha heard that Damien was such a man, she didn't insist and let Adikus pick up Sigurd before rushing to Moon Bay Street.

On the other side, Damien was still grumbling as he picked up the chicken skewer that was served to him by Gina and said to Xavier, "Really now, the people here have no respect for a doctor. Just because I cannot perform a few flashy tricks, it does not mean that my skills are for nothing."

"I do understand, Lord Damien," Xavier didn't contradict Damien as he could see that the man was rather indignant. "However, there is little to nothing you can do about it as every new thing needs time for it to be accepted."

Damien snorted. He finished his meal before taking a look at the mission board, there was no mission displayed on the board which needed a healer.

"You don't need to worry about the lack of missions, Lord Damien," Gina smilingly spoke, "Usually healers are chosen by the warriors, fortunately for you —you were also chosen by someone."

"Was I?" Damien turned to look at the woman, only then did he remember that Gina was telling him something about his teammates. "Who picked me?" He asked with a curious expression.
