The Reaper's Pit Quest

"How were you able to not only singlehandedly wipe out that group of Drakons, but also impale them?" She refused to let him move on without providing the answers she needed.

Renji sighed softly, from what he could tell they relied mainly on their magic, of course defeating the Drakons with a mere blade would be difficult for them. "I assume those weapons you claim cannot penetrate their skin are all imbued with magic? Magical weapons?" He asked.

"Yes, our world runs on magic, of course everything in it is infused with magi-"

"And that's your problem." He cut her words short with his response.

"Excuse me?" She said aloud, stunned by his sudden and unexpected response.

"You've all depended on magic so much that you neglect the other important parts of it. The Drakons have a weakness behind that tough skin of theirs." He sighed heavily, it hasn't been up to an hour he got transmigrated and he already figured out their weakness easily.

"Well I have my ninja art to thank for that, I've become too accustomed to killing by severing my victims head. I never thought something like that would come in handy." He said aloud within his thoughts.

"A weakness!?" Hinato exclaimed, not only was she shocked to discover they had a weakness, but this information was very useful for the completion of her quest.

"Yes, the skin on the side of their necks aren't as tough as the rest of their body. It's tough but trying to cut through it is relatively more easier than the rest." He identified this specific weakness after using his ninja art to severe their necks.

"That's helpful! Thanks Renji!" Hinata proclaimed with joy, her quest became relatively more easier.

"Oh now you're being thankful? Well I'll be on my way now." Renji replied, he had no idea where he was to go from here but sooner or later, he knew the reason why he was transmigrated here would turn up.

"Man her battle IQ sucks, did she really not probe for their weaknesses?" He thought.

"Wait!" She called out to him again.

"Huh? What do you want this time?" He said, folding his arms as he stared down at her.

"Um... Can you perhaps help me complete my quest." Looking away from his sight, she said nervously while intertwining her fingers.

"What? So you can nag me even more? Hell no." He said firmly, for someone who he just met not a long while ago, she was a pain in the ass.

"I don't nag you self-centered ninja!" She yelled at the top of her voice.

Raising his left eye brow, he gave an intimidating look which made her realize she was just proving him right. "I mean, please?" She said, resorting to pleading for his assistance.

"Good grief." He sighed softly, he had no where to go and no money to take care of his fundamental needs. For the time being, he found it beneficial to stick with her till he became familiar with this new world.

"Fine, I'll keep you company for now." He said, submitting to her pleas.

"Alright!" She jubilated slightly.

"By the way, why are we leaving the village? I thought your mission was to save them from the drakons?" Renji awakened at the outskirts of a remote village and judging by what Hinata had said so far, he can only conclude that was the village she referred to.

"That's not the village, it's a neighboring village I came across while heading to my actual destination. Unfortunately I stumbled into what I can definitely assume is the reason for this quest, and I fear more will return as they are all linked to this village." She spoke with concern, it became clear to her that based on whatever the villagers say, this quest is not one that could be completed easily.

[30 minutes later]

It didn't take much time before they arrived at her destination. "Here we are, the Kurogawa village, also known as the Black Weaver." Hinata said as they arrived at the entrance of the village.

"The Black Weaver?" Renji asked, obviously intrigued by it's nickname.

"This village is known for the river that resides within it, the Reapers Pit, a pitch black river which according to legend grants anyone who drinks out of it immense strength and healing capabilities at a great cost."

"Immense strength and healing capabilities? That's awesome! I'd give anything to have those." Renji chuckled as he said.

"The individuals mind and body." Hinata added.

"Say what now? Why the hell would I want immense strength and healing capabilities when it costs me my mind and body? Wait a minute, mind and body? You don't think.." Reaching a deduction from her explanations, he could already guess the origins of the Drakons.

"Yeah, there is a possibility that the Drakons are reptiles who were once humans that drank from the Reaper's pit which explains their tough skin and strength." Hinata replied with a calm and gentle voice.

"You sure know a lot about history." Renji said aloud as they proceeded into the village.

"Yeah I don't know anything about history." Hinata begged to differ.

"Huh? Then how do you know about all this stuff you just said?"

"It's in the quest paper the village put up." She said as she brought out the quest from her pocket and handed it to him.

[Reaper's Pit Quest:

Our village is known for it's river, the Reapers Pit, a pitch black river which according to legend grants anyone who drinks out of it immense strength and healing capabilities at a great cost, the individuals mind and body. It has now backfired on us and created multiple ravage beasts that threatens to eat us all. The villagers of Kurogawa requests mages who can save us from this threat and are willing to pay anything for the successful completion]

"Damn, word for word? And here I was thinking you're some kind of historical nerd." Renji said as he examined the quest paper.

"There's a lot more to me than good lucks and powerful magic Storm." Bragging pridefully, she said with a radiant smile on her face.

"You mean lack of combat experience and a helplessly naggish attitude?"

"Tch!" She grunted as she snatched the paper away from his hands and folded it back into her pockets.

"It's... Quiet, a little too quiet." She said as they arrived at the market square of the village, a cloud of fog had began settling in and the sky was a bit dark making it a bit difficult to see.

This was enough to send chills down Hinata's spine.

"I don't get it, I'm pretty sure it's not nighttime so where are all the villagers?" Renji asked as they looked around.

"They are right here." A deep voice spoke from behind them, startling the very core of Hinata's being.
