"Ugh!" He grunted with frustration, thinking too much about this was time consuming given the amount of time the system had stipulated for the completion of the quest.
"What are we going to do now?" Reo inquired as they hit a huge bump in their investigation.
"I guess we'll never know what's in there." Hinata said calmly, both her and Reo were unaware of the pressure Renji was going through currently. Not being able to proceed further was costly for him and not for them so it became an absolute must for him to solve the puzzle.
[20:00]
For the past ten minutes Renji carefully inspected each stone that rested on the pedestal, just when all glimmer of hope seemed to be lost, his eyes stumbled upon a stone that had a lightning bolt inscribed on it's surface.
"Lightning bolt..." He muttered softly.
"Huh? What about it." Focusing deeply on the puzzle he completely ignored the words of both Reo and Hinata momentarily.
"The system called this a mythological enigma, this must mean the puzzle is based on mythology. What mythology is widely known for the use of a lightning bolt?" He contemplated within his thoughts as time went on.
[15:00]
With five more minutes gone he suddenly realized what was right in front of him. "The Greek Mythology!" He exclaimed, immediately he began searching through the stones to find specific pieces.
[12:00]
Within three minutes, he had rearranged the top of the puzzle which turned out to be the head of a human being who had a crown resting on top his skull.
[9:00]
As time went on he was done with the middle part of the puzzle, he had identified the upper body of the human depicted on the stone.
"H-He's actually solving it..." Hinata stammered in disbelief, Renji indeed was an individual who doesn't appear smart or intelligent, however he makes up for that with his deduction abilities and skills. Also there was the system which played a crucial role here.
[2:00]
With only two minutes left, Renji picked up the pace and began assembling the bottom and final pieces of the puzzle. When it was all done, the puzzle turned out to be a picture of a white bearded man with a crown sitting on a throne and wielding a bolt of lightning.
"The god of lightning, Zeus." A smug smile appeared on his face as he had successfully completed the puzzle.
[00:00]
[You have successfully solved the puzzle!]
[You have completed the quest!]
[+50XP]
[You have levelled up!]
[Level 2 > Level 3]
Renji chuckled as a bunch of notifications popped up on the holographic panel within his line of vision. "That figures, if I remember correctly this system is the mythic system. That means the more I complete quests based on mythology the more XP I earn to level up." He spoke within his thoughts.
Seconds following after the successful completion of the puzzle, they felt a great vibration in the ground almost as if the landscape was shifting. Looking forward at the temple, the walls began to split into two providing entrance into the temple.
"We're in." He said boastfully, a great feeling of overachievement rushing through him. Now he understood a little about what it meant to venture into the domain of the gods.
"I don't understand, I thought the huge doors at the other side of the temple was the entrance?" There were so many questions to be asked with only little time to be answered.
"Yeah, that's what they want you to think." Renji replied rotating his right pinkie in his ear. "Now that I know what particular mythology this is, it's easier to predict what happens next." He thought, Renji always had keen interest in ancient mythologies and was well versed in Greek and Roman mythology in his old life. He just never expected it'd be useful in this life.
"What do you mean?" Reo asked as they all approached the entrance of this temple.
"Following the scriptures of the ancient Greeks, this is how it's always been. It's a defense mechanism to protect whatever it is that they don't want anybody touching. What seemed like the entrance of the temple isn't the entrance, it's a trap. Only those who are allowed and are welcomed into the temple knows this." He replied.
"So what is behind that door?" Hinata said throwing a question of her own.
"... I don't know, and I'm glad we don't have to find out."
"Once again your knowledge has saved us Renji, we are forever grateful." Reo said as he bowed to show his respects.
Renji's eyebrows were raised in confusion, wisdom? That's right. All this was history to someone like Renji who comes from a world where the ancient mythologies has been passed down in form of folktales.
"You can thank me once we're done with all this." He said as they moved into the temple.
Whistling softly, Renji and his companions were dazzled by the space and interior decor of the temple. It was truly a sight to behold, the large pillars which supported the temple were all decorated with luxurious diamonds and jewels.
"I'm surprised this place is still as beautiful as this after being isolated for who knows how long, must be the magic that is keeping the temple alive." Renji said aloud, his voice echoing through the hall they were in.
"It truly is beautiful." Reo said softly with a shaky voice, he sounded as if he had finally reached paradise.
As they proceeded forward, they eventually stumbled upon a huge door made completely out of gold and decorated with rare diamonds, gems and jewels. It was the definition of stupidly rich.
"W-whoa, that's a lot of gold. Is this door also a false door?" Hinata questioned going with the assumption of Renji's previous statement.
Renji chuckled softly, smiling radiantly as he approached the huge door and placed his two hands on it. "They wouldn't waste this much resources if they planned to use this as a trap, whatever's in there is the real deal, it must be what those beasts are after."
Applying pressure to the door, he forced it open and a bright light escaped the room and into the hallway. It was bright enough to escape the temple and even the forest that surrounded them.
