A Sly Fox

"Oh my gosh, girl. You won't believe what I know about him."

Lilian stared at the woman, her mind filled with curiosity.

"You are talking about Lucas Huang, not Lucas Wang. He is the youngest son of the Huang family. They kicked him out of the family registry for some unknown reason and changed the heir to their businesses to his older brother."

Lilian shook her head and she pulled out a piece of paper from her nightstand drawer, writing down the name she had seen on Lucas's ID.

"No, I am pretty sure it was written as Wang, not Huang."

She showed the paper to Audrey, confusing the latter for a moment before looking back at the news headline featuring Lucas's name on some online site.

"But, it says here that it's written as Huang? Could it be that the Lin Group has made a mistake and wrote it as Wang?"

Lilian shrugged before taking Audrey's phone again.

She stared intently at the image, wondering if the man that she had seen at the company was the same one in the picture.

They certainly looked alike, both faces had the same hair color and the man in the picture had the same eyes as the one from the company.

Yet, something still seemed different.

Silence filled the whole room as Lilian continued pondering regarding the man, while Audrey had already begun forming theories as to why Lucas was seen in the company.

"You know, I think the reason why that man was there is to get you sidetracked."

Lilian looked at her cousin, puzzled and confused. One minute she was arguing whether Lilian saw the correct surname and the next, Audrey was spouting nonsense at her.

"What the hell do you mean?"

Audrey clicked her tongue, sat properly on the carpet and grabbed her phone back from Lilian.

"I think Lucas is there not as an employee but as Rex's secret lover."

Lilian almost slapped her cousin. "What the hell, Audrey?! You need to get out of your head?! Stop making up nonsense!"

Audrey flinched at Lilian's sudden shrill voice and put both of her hands up high, leaned back against an invisible wall and surrendered at Lilian's sudden outburst.

"No, wait, Lilian. Listen, you had been wondering for years why Rex had called off the engagement at the very last minute. You have been pondering over the possibility that he might be in love with some other bitch."

Audrey paused before taking a look at Lilian's expression and continued.

"But, you still don't have an answer or there is still no clue whether Rex actually has another woman."

"BUT, what if it's not a woman?"

The question made Lilian stop for a moment and made her think of any possibility that Rex's lover might not actually be a woman, however, there was still a part of her that dismissed this notion as nonsense.

"No, there's no way, Audrey. Rex is not gay. It was probably a new toy. I heard him say it."

Audrey took a deep breath and kneeled beside the bed before putting her hand on Lilian's shoulder and looking straight into her eyes.

"See! He even admitted it to himself. Plus, I never said anything about him being gay, Lilian. But there's still a possibility that he could be bisexual."

Lilian pushed her cousin away and stood up from her bed before she started pacing around her room.

"No, there's still no way. I would've known if he was."

Audrey sighed, flopping onto the bed and giving Lilian a deadpan look.

"Babes, do you remember my sister's ex-boyfriend? Remember how close we both were to him and yet we were still shocked when he came out to everyone in the family?"

Lilian stopped and nodded, acknowledging her cousin's point.

"Exactly, you may have known Rex for years or since the first day you guys met, but there's still a possibility that you barely knew him all this long."

Lilian sighed in defeat and looked at Audrey with a pensive expression.

"What should I do then? If this Lucas bitch is truly Rex's secret lover, how do I snatch him away from him?"

Audrey smiled at her cousin and walked over to her, offering a comforting hug. Lilian accepted while Audrey patted her head, soothing her inner worries.

"There, there, dear cousin. I am here. I will help you make a plan. There, there."

Lilian heaved a deep sigh and looked up at her taller cousin with a sweet smile.

"Thanks, I couldn't ask for a better cousin than you."

Audrey returned a smile to her favorite cousin before grabbing her phone. She gave Lilian a meaningful look, a sly smirk forming on her face.

"I am ready when you are, cousin."

_____

Meanwhile, in the underground garage of the Chu residence, a tall young man lay sprawled out, his hair as bright as the sun and his eyes gleaming in the light.

He was holding a green book in his hand, grinning as he read through its pages, his lips reaching both his ears.

He was Joshua Lin, the youngest butler, exclusively trained to serve Lilian Chu, the sole heir of the Chu Cosmetics Company and a PR manager of Xia Lei Marketing.

Joshua had been with Lilian since the day she took her first steps in the world.

He was trained to act like an older brother to her, guiding her properly along the path that had already been laid out for her.

Although he dutifully did whatever he was told to do, he knew that Lilian would still follow what she thought was right.

Hence, here he was, still serving as a butler for the young Miss, whose anger had been a huge issue for many.

He was engrossed in reading the book when a vibration from the table nearby caught his attention. Sitting up from the sofa, he glanced at the caller ID showing on the screen.

[My favorite cousin]

Joshua folded the corner of the page before closing the book and placed it on the table, grabbed his phone and answered the call.

"Dear cousin, hello."

[Hello to you too, Joshua.]

Joshua smiled, already imagining his cousin rolling his eyes as sarcasm laced his greeting.

"So, what do I owe this pleasure for receiving your call today?"

The man on the other end of the line sighed, making Joshua chuckle at the fellow's reaction.

[Please, stop this nonsense and talk properly.]

Joshua hummed for a second before replying. "Apologies, young master. Someone might hear me."

Silence was the only answer he received from the other end before hearing a faint grumble of words like "jerk" and "sly."

"Haha, is that Stellar with you, dear cousin? I think I heard her calling me 'handsome.'"

A curse came from the other end, eliciting a loud laugh from Joshua.

He loved teasing Stellar as much as he despised making her angry.

The way her face flushed red before she unleashed a barrage of vulgar words was a sight to behold.

[Shut up. I called because my father has asked you to come and visit him tonight. Apparently, he had something to tell us.]

Joshua hummed in acknowledgement, nodding at the information while he slowly opened the book and looked through the pages carefully.

[Attend the meeting or I'll come and drag you out of there myself.]

Joshua scoffed. "Lolz, no need to get violent about it. You know that I will be there."

The sound of chuckles came from the other side before the call came to an end. Joshua looked back at the page in front of him and hummed thoughtfully.

"Well, wouldn't this be interesting?"
