Volume 1: Chapter 7 - The Role, The Sister

The grand narrative of history is inscribed by the ceaseless pen of time. The countless individuals of the past and present are merely materials for this grand depiction!

They collectively perform a play that starts with the world and ends with it. The play is titled "Life," with society as the stage, life as the script, and everyone as both the protagonist and the supporting role, as well as the audience. To perfectly enact one's "script," one must always be clear about their role.

The sunset cast long shadows as it slowly descended in the endless west, with white clouds blushing red, blooming in their final moments before the night devoured everything.

Leng Yolan withdrew her gaze from the window, her expression as impassive as ever. She left the now-empty classroom.

"Why are you still out so late?" Lei Tianyi's dark and intense eyes blazed with anger as he stared at her petite figure, his cool demeanor as frightening as that of a devil.

"The sunset is infinitely beautiful, only it is near dusk," Leng Yolan glanced back at the shadowy figure behind her, her voice as ethereal as a dream. She suddenly found the poetry beautiful, a beauty tinged with melancholy.

"What nonsense are you talking about? I'm asking why you haven't gone home after school?" His brows were tightly furrowed, and the veins on his clenched fists were clearly visible.

Leng Yolan looked at the figure that had suddenly appeared and stopped. She raised her hand to smooth his furrowed brow, her soft and delicate hand touching his slightly rougher one. His fist immediately relaxed around her gentle hand.

She knew she should have left, but once again, her emotions took over her reason. She didn't like seeing him frown and didn't want to witness him suppressing his anger. She unconsciously reached out, and by the time reason returned, the chance to escape had slipped away. She lost her ability to think, her heart, craving warmth, sinking into the heat transmitted through their hands.

Under the beautiful twilight, they strolled hand in hand along the campus path. Their equally cold and beautiful faces were now lit up with a unique warmth in their eyes due to the contact of their palms.

The once-bustling campus was now quiet, with two luxury black cars parked at the entrance. Two young men leaned against the front car, their tall figures wrapped in expensive black suits, emanating a menacing aura. Next to the other car stood a captivating woman, her faint smile capturing the hearts of countless men and securing her enemies' defeat.

Watching the couple walk hand in hand, the three individuals straightened up with solemn expressions, their eyes filled with surprise and confusion, but none dared to speak, fearing they might not see the sunrise the next day.

"Qi, drive the car!" "Yu, organize the documents and send them to me before midnight." "Xiu, take her home."

As he coldly issued orders, he took his seat in the back of the car, ignoring the woman who dared to pull away from him. If not for her, Li Yu would have likely finished reporting on the school matters by now. Instead, he would have to forgo resting tonight.

In the afternoon, a pleasant ringtone floated through the air.

"Hey, little girl, we're in sync! I was just about to call you!"

"Really? Why are you calling me? Is something wrong?"

"Yeah, I didn't finish my business at noon. After school, go home by yourself, okay?"

"Since you're so sincere, fine! Uh—let me ask, are you with Li Yu?" Leng Yolan noticed a hint of nervousness in her voice.

"Yes. Little girl, what do you need from me?"

"Oh, I was going to tell you that I needed to buy some things today, and you should go home first, but now, never mind! I'm hanging up now."

"Okay, bye!"

The feeling was too wonderful. He had never thought he would be explaining his time to a woman one day, but now he was, and he didn't mind at all. In fact, he was somewhat happy. He didn't care about the reason, just enjoying the strange warmth.

Lost in joy, Lei Tianyi suddenly furrowed his brow. 'How could he let her go out alone?'

"You all, wait for me at the school gate this afternoon." After hanging up the phone, he relaxed his brow. He trusted Ming Di's personal guards to ensure his girl's safety. Whenever he thought of the day he met her, his mood became unsettled.

Watching the once-bustling campus grow quiet, his anger and concern deepened in his dark, deep-set eyes. Unable to restrain himself, he rushed into her classroom, but upon seeing her staring blankly at the sky, he found himself lost in thought as well.

It wasn't until she walked past him that he snapped back to reality, and evidently, she hadn't noticed him. Anger quickly flared in his eyes. That damn poem had made him reluctant to be angry at her.

Her soft and delicate hand had soothed all his emotions. He felt an unprecedented bliss. At this moment, he acknowledged that she was different from the women he had known before, though he was unwilling to explore why. But the fact that she had pulled away from his hand in front of him made him feel humiliated. Did he embarrass her?

Looking at the cold man in the car and the alluring woman smiling beside it, he wondered if it was this smile that defeated him. It wasn't that he cared about the school flower; being called "Cold Princess" even seemed fitting. But why did this smile now seem so glaring? Was it because it had confused someone he cared about?

Looking up at the western sky, Leng Yolan walked toward the car.

"Come back, get in the car!" The deep voice carried an unquestionable authority.

Leng Yolan stopped and looked at his resolute face. 'Wasn't Xiu supposed to take me home?' The question was swallowed by his indifferent expression. Facing the unfamiliar Yi, she chose to obey.

The car sped along the street, and the objects outside the window quickly receded from view, disappearing in an instant.

Leng Yolan gazed at the man's blurred face in the glass.

Now, he was the real him, right? Stern, profound, domineering, and dangerous, exuding an aura that made one shiver and submit. He was the embodiment of a devil.

He was as indifferent as she was, but his indifference came from his disdain for the world, shaped by money and power, while hers stemmed from hatred, a deep longing for warmth. They were different, belonging to two worlds.

Heaven treats all things equally. No matter how glamorous the appearance, the inner loneliness is equally profound. He must be lonelier than she was!

"Yi, will you pamper me?" She suddenly wanted to know her place in his heart.

"Of course I will pamper you! And I want to make you the happiest woman," his cold words carried an undeniable firmness.

"Why? We've just met, haven't we?" Leng Yolan was shocked by his overly natural attitude.

"Because you're my girl, my most cherished sister." He wanted her to feel secure, and calling her his sister was the best reason to pamper her. But a trace of unease lingered in his heart. 'Is she really just a sister? Why does it feel a bit empty?'

A sister, indeed! The sun had already set, and perhaps the sun had set when she was eight. It was time to go home, back to her own place. At this moment, her heart was calm, with no waves, though cold, it felt familiar and comforting.
