Chapter 9: Construction Slowdown

2 Months Later

Tuesday afternoon

The New Section

For those of you wondering, that first date went fine. If you can even call it that. A bit awkward at first, but even the other workers on site are getting used to my presence on Tuesdays. We decided to keep seeing each other every Tuesday afterwards. I basically bring her lunch and we eat together. The reward ceremony went fine too. I asked for the doors to be put in my room, they were. 

But back to Roka. We've been getting along splendidly. Today will be our 8th date by my calculations.

She's been blushing more often, but cheery most of the time.

"Why is the demon princess so cheerful today. It's starting to freak me the hell out man."

I stop before I round the corner to listen.

"You don't know dude. It's Tuesday."

"What about Tuesday?"

"It's that hero from the reward ceremony. He's been coming by lately."

"Oh him, so that's why."

I step around the corner. They freak out and start running in all sorts of directions. Some where mages, the others the muscleheads from that time. I think they're the foremans of their respective crews. I keep walking. 

I see Roka. She's already put the table up in the shade. I Wave, she waves back. 

I sit down and we have lunch. 

We're done.

She's silent for a bit playing with her finger on the table.

"You know Ryu, once we finally get married we can start doing that, ya know" 

She blushes.

"By that you mean"

! 

I pay close attention. She goes even redder, I can basically see the steam rising from her head.

Oh that, Of course that! But we agreed only after she's done with this project. 

She still has like 4 months left right. 

She calms down a bit. 

I ask with a serious face

"Is there a issue with the construction, maybe I can help find a solution?"

She puts her hand on her chin looks up and starts tapping her finger on her mouth as she speaks.

"Well, The guys that remove the dirt can't keep up with me, or something like that"

"Oh is that all, hahaha" 

I laugh nervously. I get up.

"Ryu!?"

"I just remembered I have something to do"

I bow, wave

"Please excuse me for the day"

"O-Okay"

Where the hell are those foremans. I start walking back the way I came. 

Musclehead foreman spotted. He freaks out a bit as I drag him off. 

Magician foreman spotted. He seems to want to run away seeing me dragging this huge guy toward him.

I still catch up. 

I drag them both to a secluded spot.

I crack my knuckles.

"We need to talk!"

""Heeeh!""

They both squeel holding eachother. 

We had a fruitfull talk. 

I suggested we start using movable pulleys that can run along the top edge of the trench, like the moving scaffold just on the outside instead, with ropes going down into the trenches with a container to hold dirt. The muscleheads would be on top of the trench sides pulling dirt up then dumping it and the magicians load the containers from below using magic like before. 

They agreed.

I went back on Thursday to check, things seem to be moving along great, when they both see me they rush over.

Wait now I'm scared. 

They just wanted to thank me. 

What is this bad feeling I have. Oh well no use thinking about it, I'll just ignore it for now.
