Shadows from the Past

Astrid

His hand closed around my elbow and he pulled me to a stop.

"Astrid…please listen to me," he started in a soft voice. "I know exactly how you feel and it makes me angry that I cannot make it go away."

I blinked as the stinging sensation in my eyes got worse and tears poured down my cheeks.

I let him slowly spin me around to face him, and he reached out to wipe each side of my face gently. "Please don't cry," he whispered.

"I'm trying not to…" I choked out, "but I just feel a little sad that I have to be gotten rid of for others to be safe." I sniffled as my teary eyes darted up to him. "I'm a danger to everyone, my family, the pack…now you"

"You are blessing to us all," he corrected gently, swiping his thumb across the left side of my face as another tear slid down my cheek.

"Whether the others acknowledge it or not, does not negate the truth in that fact Astrid."
