STAYING

Magnus

I couldn't believe my own eyes. Staring back at me, my face twisted with a malicious smirk. Gaius, wearing my skin like a well-fitted glove, prowled the driveway with an arrogance that made my stomach churn. I had to get away, had to avoid detection.

My current form, the frail and lean body of an older man, was no match for Gaius. I slunk back into the undergrowth, my heart pounding with a mixture of fear and anger. Astrid was waiting for me in the car. I couldn't let him see me like this.

So, I ran before he would come close to the parking lot.

I made my way back to the forest, hoping not to be seen,

I knew I couldn't go to the town, even though I was clearly a human now; I didn't want to risk my host being a victim of the disappearance, so I decided to hide here, knowing the fact that the other wolves could sense a human a million miles away.
