BROKEN HOPE

Astrid

The dawn's light peeked through the dense canopy of the forest, casting long shadows on the path ahead. The air was thick with the scent of pine and damp earth, a stark contrast to the suffocating weight in my chest. My heart thudded heavily with each step, every beat echoing the turmoil within. Darius walked beside me, his face a mask of concentration as we walked the narrow trail leading to town. I mustered up strength as I held the frail body of the older man, shuffled between us, his movements slow and difficult.

"Are you sure about this, Astrid?" Darius's voice broke the silence, his tone filled with concern. He glanced at me, eyes searching mine for any sign of hesitation.

I forced a tight smile, nodding. "We don't have a choice. He's safer in town. Besides, the pack can't know about him wandering in the alpha mansion." My voice trembled slightly, betraying the confidence I tried to project.
