Yesterday was a draining day, although its a new day I feel trapped in the throes of the day before. I prepared them for this day, the things I can't say make me feel a sense of uselessness. My gift is not an easy one, I could outlive my children or I could die before my time. There were others before me, they come to me sometimes when I look into the past. Share their wisdom with me, in order to help the next person after me I made a book. The only records we have about us, I was warned against making it by my predecessors. If the information fell into the wrong hands, well I dare not think of it now. Leora keeps the book safe, it's the only real responsibilty I give her since healing takes its toll on her life and body.
As I sit watching young Reign, Bonzai's eldest child coat Leora in Ice to keep her temperature down. It still shakes me to my core, I can't believe I didn't see this! Too focused on other things yet to come. Another thing they must navigate alone, my children have suffered a lot for the sake of this island. Never being able to go too far from it, and protecting it from those who may know of it. Most of all never being able to leave me, people constantly sought me out. I am no God or miracle worker but my ability does allow me to do many things, I am like a fountain of youth. Who wouldn't chase immortality, but everything has it's costs.
With clenched fist and teary eyes I sit and watch as Imala and Arius try hard to find a connection to Leora, Imala's beautiful heart shaped face and perfectly smooth skin is now being wrinkled by the frown that has formed. Arius face is the same, but now sweat has formed. My heart skips a beat, they seem angry or like they're fighting something. My hands clench the armrests as I wait, with bated breath afraid that if I move I will mess something up.
"Nana Aeon?" I barely register Reign talking to me. "Nan… na Aeon, are they o..o..kay? It's been two hours. I'm kind… I'm exhausted". "wha.. what did you say?" Bewildered I turn to look at her pale white cheeks, her hairs a mess, her lips are so dry it's as if she's been out in the desert. She looks weak, I stand up and rush out the door to get her some water. While scolding myself for forgetting that she always needed to stay hydrated. I grab a five litre Jug of water from Leoras fridge and hurry back up the stairs. She always was hospitable that daughter of mine. She made sure she had everything any of us needed.
As I enter back in the room, Reign starts to Guzzle the water as if it was the last bit of food in the world. "Slow down, you will choke!" A deep familiar voice scolds her. I look at him in surprise Arius is now sitting at the end of Leoras bed staring at her sleeping form. "Oh come on Uncle Arius, I'm more likely to die of dehydration!" Reign retorts as she slams the now empty jug down on Leoras beside table looking rejunvinated.
"How did it go?" I say but it comes out a whisper. "My main concern was that unnatural temperature of hers, but Reign seems to have given her comfort. You both will need to remain here, until we can find a way to wake her". Imala sighs loudly "that was the hardest thing I have ever had to do thus far". I furrow my brows "what exactly has happened to Leora?" I ask. Arius stares at me in confusion "Ma? You don't know? Or is this one of your I can't say moments?" I wipe the tear that just flowed down my cheek, "I only saw her trapped in the dark, burning, screaming for help. I already told you I can't see her future. I can't even look into what's happened!"
"Is it like there is a barrier between you and seeing anything to do with Leora Nana Aeon?" Imala questions. "Yes, it's strange that I can see everyone else and everything else but nothing to do with Leora" I say a little panicked. Imalas eyes widen, Arius stares at her curiously. "You have something"he says. "I don't know if you noticed uncle Arius but it was hard to get to Aunt Leora. For someone like me getting into the mind is childs play". Arius giggles when she says that and chimes in with "you are a child" she glares at him but continues with her explanation.
"Someone else was trying to keep us out, I thought I might have been overthinking . But someone else was there, before I broke through. Whoever it is has a similar ability to if not the same as me and…" standing from the bed Arius finishes off her sentence "they have the ability to block ma's sight". Furrowing his brows he looks over at me. "It makes sense" I say "they wouldn't have blocked all of the visions because I would have been alerted".
Arius walks close to Leora and strokes her face "the next thing we need to find out is who, how and why? But we all know this started when our uninvited guests showed up, you guys get some rest. Reign make sure you check up on her regularly to check her tempurature. Make sure you stay hydrated and Imala don't ever try to enter her mind while I am not around". Both girls nod and walk out the room. I start to get ready to change Leora's bedding "Arius, let's move her to the bath tub everything is wet".
After putting Leora into some shallow cold water in her tub, I strip everything from her bed. "Ma, you need to rest" Arius says. "And someone needs to keep changing her water everytime it grows warm, Reign can't keep this up on her own". Arius wraps me in a hug, "Bonzai is on the way, now promise you will rest". Remembering my last interaction with Bonzai I furrow my brows but agree "only when he gets here then". With that I'm left clinging to air, as he moves to the shadows to apparate out.
