Despite Aiden’s cold response to my birthday gift, I still wanted to get close to him. I wanted to know more about him, to get to a point where he could truly trust me. Call it stubbornness or misplaced optimism, but I wasn’t ready to give up on the idea of at least a cordial relationship with him.
My thoughts were interrupted when Ethan approached me at my desk. “What are you still doing here?”
I stared at him in confusion. “Where else would I be?”
“In the conference room? You have an appointment with a new client? Ring any bells?”
Oh, shit! I’d been stuck in the Aiden bubble that was apparently so hard to escape that I’d completely forgotten about the appointment I had. I quickly grabbed my things and rushed to the conference room without sparing Ethan another glance.
Once outside, I took a moment to collect myself before entering the conference room. “Mr...” I paused to take a look at my notes. “Mr. Harrison? I'm Claire Madden. I’ll be handling your account.”
