Soren slowly came to consciousness as his lips quivered and his eyelids fluttered. He opened his eyes and gasped for air, unable to move his face or even his hands. A line appeared between his brows.
He choked on his breath when he came face to face with a peacefully sleeping Zale. He blinked at him, dumbfounded, sucking in his flaming shallow breaths. The ferocious beauty snoring on his arm, face inches away, made his heart flip in delight.
He forgot for a moment that he was in Zale's room, sleeping on his bed with Zale on top of him.
Soren got mesmerized by his radiant looks that his eyes burned from not caring about blinking, his eyes darted down to the cut, it was surrounded by the stains of dry blood because Zale throws tantrums at Soren's every possible attempt to make him change his clothes. The maniac exclaimed he wanted to sleep with the smell of blood mixed with Soren's feral scent.
Soren's lips tucked into a smile recalling the silly whining of his master. The obnoxious wolf shifts in his sleep making Soren freeze. Zale's brows frowned and face twitched in dismay, which made Soren ponder whether his face was hurting. Perhaps he was uncomfortable with his face plopped on Soren's solid and firm shoulder, so maybe he should replace it with a soft pillow.
However, for that, he needed to change positions to inspect and help the affliction of Zale, but he also didn't want to wake him up in the process. Just when he made an effort to move, Zale groaned.
Soren stilled and sucked in a breath when Zale somewhat shifted in his sleep and rasped something incongruous mumblings.
"Where are you going?" Zale tightened his grip around Soren making him sink further into the mattress. A flush creeps up his cheeks as Zale pressed him under his weight. Soren couldn't calm down his fiercely racing heart. He took a deep breath before opening his mouth.
"Your face must be aching, you should lay down on a pillow," Soren murmurs, voice breaking from feeling too nervous. He couldn't understand what was happening to him or why his heart suddenly started to beat so fast or why his own voice was betraying him.
"No, I'm fine this way," Zale grumbled in his deep breathy, and croaky morning voice.
Deep down Soren wanted to stay like this as well, even though one side of his body had gone numb from providing it to Zale the whole night, though he didn't have much problem with it. His heart flutters in contentment every time Zale lessens the gap between them, which was nonexistent to begin with.
He should be freeing himself from Zale's torment and get up now since Zale was already awake, so why isn't he shoving the wolf away and doing so?
Most likely due to the previous night's incident and the nasty wound on Zale's face preventing him from doing so. He recognizes Zale as a victim of his past and present actions, including the humans and shifters Soren has harmed or killed to protect Zale. However, Soren was unable to accept responsibility for them because he lacked the authority and rights.
Zale is the only person he's been ordered to look after and keep at bay, so he remains at the top of his list of victims. He is only concerned with Zale's sanity, he could only try and keep him in control.
"Master Zale, we're already late for breakfast, though it's alright if you want to rest more. I will bring your breakfast here." Soren mutters as he reaches out his hand to his side where Zale's hand was straddling him.
The corner of Zale's lips turned up at Soren's words. He beams like a child, Soren is the only one who cares for him. He clutched his shirt tightly when Soren tried to free himself. His smile was vicious and teasing. However, his smile dropped when he heard Soren's next words.
"Also I need to talk to Avalon. He sure seems normal but it's still suspicious how Shilister could send a doctor without informing me?" Soren didn't even get to finish when he heard Zale grunt in annoyance, making him worried. He's still in despair from what Zale did last night and that's why he was afraid to raise this topic.
"He's still in the mansion?" Zale scoffed in agitation as he examined Soren who was already staring at him anxiously. "And you let him?" Zale demanded, his eyes flaming with devious intentions.
Soren frowned as he still couldn't understand after so many years, how Zale changes his expressions and voice so smoothly. How does he change his mood so fast? It's still a mystery to him.
"We can't just ask him to leave? And I need to scrutinise him first. What if he was telling the truth and Shilister really did send him? I have to figure out his motive first." Soren explained slowly to cool him down.
"Or you can just throw him out and tell him that I don't need anyone except you." Zale snapped, and the muscles in his jaw twitched as he gritted his teeth. He glared straight at Soren in resentment.
Soren rolled his eyes, "Master Zale," he let out with equal intenseness as he shifted a little to make some space between them. Soren faced him, Zale's head was still resting on Soren's arm, but the emotions were different this time. Both stare at each other with equal intensity. "I can take care of this matter myself, you don't need to mend. However, what I want from you is to promise me that you'll not act as recklessly as you did last time. Do you get it?"
Zale smirked maliciously as he leaned closer. He loves it whenever this side of Soren appears, demanding and controlling. It makes his chest go funny and butterflies erupt in his stomach. Just as much as he wants to control Soren's attention and indulgence towards himself, he loves being in Soren's control. He loves whenever Soren just revered their master and pet roles without much hard work.
"Or I'll just have to kill him then you won't have trouble dealing with him- ahh!"
The wolf's iniquitous suggestion got cut off by Soren's hand gripping his jaw, making Zale hissed in agony. Soren brings his face close to him in anger, his fingers digging into Zale's wound. Zale squeaked as he clenched his eyes from the pain.
"You will not do anything like that. You will not hurt anyone, especially yourself." Soren exclaimed, voice demanding and spiteful.
Zale's gulped in pain but the pain didn't bother him. It's just a small cut for him, much smaller compared with the ones he's got in the past. He was awfully amused by Soren's tone which won't take a no from him as an answer. He gaped at Soren in a teasing way, extending his hand from Soren's side and carrying it up near his neck. Zale started to draw small delicate circles on his neck and exposed collarbone, his cold fingertips tickling Soren's skin.
Soren frowned in confusion but his grip softened as his eyes darted down to Zale's hand.
"What are you doing?"
Zale smiled innocently, a pure and blissful smile playing on his lips. Soren felt even more confused as he pulled his hand back from his face.
"Your veins pop out whenever you're angry. I'm just trying to calm them down." Zale softly whispered. Soren could only stare at him.
Zale is messed up, cruel, manipulative, ruthless, a monster, a murderer and has traumas that could get triggered easily, but he's also innocent and pure. Soren never understands why his smile always affects him.
Soren slapped his hand away in frustration, not towards Zale but towards himself, and how he always stopped thinking in the right way whenever he was near Zale.
"Please get ready and come down for breakfast," Soren announced before pushing Zale away and getting up from the bed. Zale's face drops as he sees Soren unlock the door and leave.
He extended his hand and ripped off all the bandages Soren put on his face. His expression changed into an atrocious snarl as he didn't even blink at the pain.
"This plan works every time," Zale smirked wickedly. "So, you're never gonna change huh? You will only stay with me as long as I'm wounded and in pain. Well, I will keep that in mind."
