The Importance of Weapons
The significance of weapons is undeniable. How could samurai be expected to fight with sickles and hoes?
Weapons and equipment, especially in times like these, are tightly controlled and difficult to obtain. Secretly recruiting samurai on a large scale is already a perilous task, let alone acquiring enough weapons to arm ten thousand men.
Even with money, such an operation would be hard to conceal.
Everyone fell silent, troubled by the dilemma.
Carlos, however, smiled.
"Don't worry. After all, I am a prominent member of the Beasts Pirates. I'll handle this."
Shutenmaru sighed softly. "Even so, there's still a massive gap in combat power between us and them."
Carlos smiled knowingly, as if he already had a plan.
"We're not the only ones who want to take down Kaido. Don't forget, there are still two of the Nine Red Scabbards in Zou."
"Inuarashi and Nekomamushi!" the others exclaimed, their eyes lighting up.
"Exactly," Carlos continued, "they're currently the two rulers of the Mokomo Dukedom on Zou Island, leading the Mink Tribe."
The Mink Tribe is renowned for their exceptional combat strength. Every citizen is a soldier—there are no weaklings among them. If we can bring them to our side, it would be a tremendous advantage.
Shutenmaru, despite his injuries, sat up on the bed. "Leave convincing Inuarashi and Nekomamushi to me!"
Seeing the hope of restoring Wano Country, Denjiro and Shutenmaru were energized and immediately began to take action.
Kozuki Hiyori, standing by, was moved by their determination and wanted to contribute as well.
She decided to change her name to Komurasaki and garner support from the remaining daimyos. According to her, when Oden was alive, the daimyos of regions like Kuri, Hakumai, and Udon maintained a strong relationship with the Kozuki family. They could be potential allies in this fight.
Carlos had no objections to this plan. The more power they gathered, the higher their chances of defeating Kaido.
After everything was settled, Carlos returned to Onigashima to report.
Onigashima
"Quinn mentioned that the guy you captured is a remnant of the Kozuki Clan. Is he the one who's been causing trouble recently?" Kaido asked.
"Yes," Carlos replied. "He's one of the Nine Red Scabbards who served Oden. He often disguised himself as a rogue and caused disturbances. Also, I've dealt with the bandits hiding in Mount Atama. Their leader was quite strong—it took me a while to defeat him. But after some persuasion, he chose to join the Beasts Pirates. He's now working under me."
"Good work," Kaido nodded, then sighed. "I can't believe it's been ten years, and the Kozuki Clan still has remnants in Wano. Don't they know when to give up?"
Kaido grumbled as memories of his former rival surfaced. He cursed aloud, "Damn Oden! Even in death, he still causes trouble!"
"Boss Kaido, the Kozuki Clan has long lost its ability to fight back. We could use every capable person now. Why not keep him locked up for a while? Maybe he'll see reason and join the Beasts Pirates eventually," Carlos suggested.
Kaido sighed again. "No, it's because of Yamato."
Carlos paused, then quickly understood. Yamato—Kaido's daughter.
When she was eight, she witnessed Oden's execution and was deeply affected. After finding Oden's logbook, she became even more rebellious, proclaiming herself as Kozuki Oden and longing for the outside world.
Yamato, despite being Kaido's daughter, despised the Beasts Pirates and dreamed of liberating Wano. The irony was painful for Kaido.
Carlos couldn't help but wonder if Yamato was Oden's daughter and Momonosuke Kaido's son. But that was just a bad joke.
Yamato had inherited Kaido's monstrous strength and often challenged her father, growing stronger with each fight. In the original story, she even used the Thunder Bagua to defeat Ulti in one strike. Yamato's strength was nothing to scoff at; Carlos estimated her power to be close to that of a Yonko's right-hand man.
Such a powerful ally had to be won over.
Carlos smiled. "Boss Kaido, why don't you let me try to enlighten Young Master Yamato?"
"It's useless," Kaido shook his head helplessly. "I've tried everything, but nothing changes her mind. All I could do was put seastone handcuffs on her and imprison her."
"Let me try. Maybe I'll have better luck?" Carlos insisted.
Kaido hesitated, then agreed. "Fine. If you can really change her mind, I'll reward you with anything you want."
Onigashima—Unknown Prison Cell
In a dark prison cell on Onigashima, a white-haired girl was pulling at the bars with all her might. She was over two meters tall, wearing a white sleeveless kimono and wooden geta on her feet. Despite her innocent appearance, she possessed monstrous strength.
Though she wore seastone shackles, she still tried to break free from the thick steel bars.
"Don't bother. Even if you escape this cell, you won't be able to break those pure seastone shackles," a voice came from outside the cell. Yamato frowned and looked toward the source.
"Who are you?" she demanded.
"My name is Carlos. I'll be delivering your meals for now. Boss Kaido says you're very powerful and need to be kept under strict supervision, but I'm not sure I see it."
Yamato, simple-minded and easily provoked, shouted back, "If you think you're so tough, open this door and fight me!"
Carlos shrugged with a smile. "I don't want to bully a woman. Besides, if I hurt you, Boss Kaido would be upset with me."
"Damn you! How dare you look down on me!" Yamato screamed in frustration.
Carlos just chuckled, ignoring her outburst. He placed a lunchbox inside the cell and walked away.
The next day, Carlos returned to the cell, taunting her again. As usual, Yamato cursed him furiously as he left.
On the third day, Carlos had thoroughly assessed the situation around him. There were no surveillance devices inside or outside the prison, and no one else was watching—Kaido seemed to trust him completely. Or perhaps Kaido had simply given up on changing Yamato after so many years.
Carlos decided it was time to switch tactics. "If you're so strong, why are you still stuck in this cell, helpless and furious?"
