It wasn't just Charlotte Linlin.
Everyone presents stared blankly at the man standing in the middle of the battlefield, their faces filled with shock as if they had seen a ghost. The members of the Big Mom Pirates were stunned, while Yamato, Denjiro, and the other samurai suddenly showed expressions of joy, as if they had just found their savior.
"What's going on? Why are you here?" Big Mom demanded, her eyes narrowing as she fixed her gaze on Carlos. "Did you escape from prison?"
Her voice trembled with a mix of disbelief and excitement, her entire body quivering slightly.
Carlos responded calmly, "Garros? I think you've mistaken me for someone else. I am Vice Admiral Carlos, an Admiral candidate from Marine Headquarters."
The battlefield, once filled with the clamor of battle, suddenly fell silent, as if the world had paused to listen.
Yasopp clutched his stomach, pounding the ground as he laughed heartily.
"Boss, it turns out the guy you wanted to invite is a Marine? Hahaha! And not just any Marine—an Admiral candidate! There's no way he'd join our crew!"
Shanks felt a wave of embarrassment wash over him as his crew teased him.
He barked, "Shut up!"
Taking a deep breath, a hint of unease flickered in his eyes. "This guy has been hiding his true self all along. It seems the Marines started planning against the Beasts Pirates months ago. If I'm right, Kaido's capture might have something to do with him. This is going to be interesting."
Shanks shook his head, sitting down on the ground as he pulled out a bottle of wine and took a swig.
In the air, Big Mom's expression darkened as she connected the dots. It was as if a lightning bolt had struck her mind, bringing sudden clarity.
"No wonder... No wonder!" she snarled, her eyes widening in realization.
"You're the one who's been secretly driving a wedge between me and Kaido!"
Carlos slowly unsheathed his sword, the Dark Thunder, along with the Second Generation Ghost, his voice as calm as ever.
"Did you just figure it out? Unfortunately, it's too late. Kaido is already locked up, and as his old friend, you'll soon be joining him in Impel Down."
After a moment of shock, Big Mom gritted her teeth, her lips curling into a cruel smile.
"You damn brat! Without a Marine Admiral backing you up, you dare to stand before me alone?"
Carlos remained unfazed. "Do you remember what happened a few months ago?"
"Of course, I remember!" Big Mom licked her lips, a fierce and terrifying look flashing in her eyes.
"I said that sooner or later, I would rip out your soul and make you suffer endless pain and torture! I've been waiting for this moment for far too long."
Carlos raised his right hand, pointing the tip of his sword directly at her. "Come on then, let's end it all right here!"
Zeus and Prometheus converged on Big Mom's fists, engulfing her entire body in blazing flames. She stepped onto the thundercloud Zeus and swooped down at high speed, a sharp sonic boom reverberating through the air.
"She's fast!" Carlos narrowed his eyes, swiftly swinging his sword forward.
A powerful force, wrapped in flames, collided with Carlos, sending him flying backward hundreds of meters. He barely managed to stabilize himself. Though he was in a disheveled state, he wasn't seriously injured.
Carlos thought to himself, Is this Big Mom's full strength? She's incredibly powerful... I was lucky to have beaten Kaido last time...
Before he could dwell on the thought, his Observation Haki warned him of another incoming attack. Big Mom, standing on Zeus, was already pursuing him, wielding a massive flaming blade formed by the fusion of Prometheus and Napoleon.
The murderous intent and terrifying aura emanating from her made it hard to breathe. Escape? No, within her attack range, it's too late!
Carlos quickly made a decision. "Fine, let's see whose slash is more powerful!"
A surge of excitement burst forth from within him. His Conqueror's Haki erupted, and the Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan activated. The black flames of Amaterasu engulfed his swords.
The next moment, black flame met red flame in a powerful clash.
BOOM!
The deafening roar was like an explosion, as if the island itself was crying out for mercy. But neither of them stopped. The two figures clashed again, one large and one small, each impact sending shockwaves that tore the earth apart and set the battlefield ablaze. The land between them turned into a sea of fire, raging and roaring uncontrollably.
Unknowingly, the area within several thousand meters had become a death zone. The battle had reached a level that no samurai could participate in. When Carlos and Big Mom had first clashed, the warriors had already retreated to the edge of the battlefield, watching the fight from a safe distance.
The samurai stared at the two combatants, their eyes filled with a mix of tension and hope.
"No worries, Lord Carlos will definitely win!"
"Yes, he's the swordsman who slayed a dragon and tore the sky apart!"
In contrast, the Big Mom Pirates were deathly silent. The children of the Charlotte family gaped at the scene in front of them, horrified. After a long pause, Perospero swallowed hard.
"What? How has he gotten so strong in such a short time? Is it really possible to improve this quickly?"
Their impression of Carlos was still from a month ago, when he had barely escaped from the Big Mom Pirates. They remembered him as someone who had managed to block Big Mom's power head-on—a strong opponent, yes, but nothing like the formidable force he had become.
On the other side, Shanks watched the ongoing battle with growing seriousness. "There are so many powerful people in this sea... The New World truly is something else."
Beckman, holding a cigarette between his lips, replied nonchalantly,
"What? You scared?"
Shanks' cheeks flushed slightly, whether from excitement or the alcohol.
"No, I'm thrilled. If you want to live freely on the seas, you'll inevitably have to face guys like them. The journey ahead will definitely be more interesting."
Beckman exhaled a puff of smoke and shook his head.
"You're impossible..."
"But speaking of which, that Marine seems to be at a disadvantage," Beckman added.
Shanks laughed. "Beckman, how about we make a bet?"
"A bet?"
"That's right. Let's bet on who will win."
Yasopp, Lucky Roux, and the others perked up, showing interest.
"Boss, there should be no suspense in this battle, right?" Yasopp said, watching the fight closely. "Carlos is getting pushed back hard. He's bound to lose sooner or later."
Shanks grinned. "Although Big Mom's attacks are fierce and relentless, they aren't really landing. He's either blocking or dodging them. Not only that, but he's also seized several chances to counterattack. If it weren't for that old hag's insane defense, the fight might already be over."
Beckman scrutinized the battle more closely.
"This guy... it's like he can predict the future..."
"It must be Observation Haki," Shanks confirmed with a nod. "And it's an extremely advanced form. Probably as good as ours, if not better. And then there are those eyes of his..."
Everyone observed for a while, but none of them recognized the strange black and red eyes Carlos possessed.
The expressions on Yasopp and the others gradually became more serious. Even from a distance, the intensity of the battle was palpable, creating an unsettling tension in the air.
"To be able to hold his own against a Yonko... Carlos really is something special. Maybe the rumors about him defeating Kaido aren't just hearsay," Yasopp remarked.
Shanks shook his head slightly, a contemplative look on his face. "No, I have a strange feeling... something tells me Carlos might actually win this."
Beckman nodded thoughtfully. "It's possible. Big Mom has been attacking relentlessly, and that kind of offensive takes a toll. Meanwhile, Carlos has mostly been dodging and countering, conserving his energy. In the long run, it might give him the upper hand."
"But if he can't find a way to break through her defenses, it's all for nothing," Yasopp added.
As Carlos and Big Mom continued their intense battle, another fierce confrontation was unfolding at sea near Impel Down. The Marines and the Whitebeard Pirates had clashed, with the fight between Akainu and Whitebeard becoming the focal point of the battlefield.
It wasn't just because they were the leaders of their respective forces—the sheer power of their clash was earth-shattering. Each collision of their attacks felt like a natural disaster, with boiling lava and shattering space sending shockwaves that tore through nearby ships, either shattering them to pieces or incinerating them in the searing heat.
The area within a kilometer of their battle had become a no-man's-land. The waves surged violently, and the fierce winds whipped up massive waves, throwing the once orderly fleets into chaos. Both Marines and pirates clung desperately to whatever they could, their eyes wide with horror as they watched the titanic battle unfold.
High in the sky, Aokiji was locked in combat with Marco the Phoenix, captain of the Whitebeard Pirates' first division. Despite facing a Marine Admiral, Marco's incredible regenerative abilities allowed him to fight on even terms, neither side giving an inch.
Meanwhile, deep within the sixth level of Impel Down, the Eternal Hell, a hearty laugh echoed through the darkness.
"Hey! Anyone in here still have the guts to try breaking out?" Kaido's voice shattered the silence.
"Breaking out? You must be out of your mind! Save your strength!" one of the prisoners sneered. "If you make a move, Magellan and the other wardens will be on you in an instant. And even if you escape, where are you going to go? The sea around here is a Calm Belt—you're trapped!"
"Yeah, only someone like Golden Lion Shiki could pull off something like that," another added with a laugh.
But Kaido was unfazed by their doubts. "There's no booze here, and it's boring as hell. I'm not staying here a second longer!"
"Are you really okay with rotting away in this hellhole? Spending the rest of your days in darkness and despair?"
The laughter and jeers gradually died down, and the other prisoners began to listen.
"So what if we're not okay with it?" someone muttered. "Getting locked up here is as good as a death sentence."
"Exactly! The moment a pirate loses their freedom, they're already dead. We're just a bunch of walking corpses!"
Kaido suddenly sat up, his eyes gleaming with a terrifying light. "As long as we can break these Seastone shackles and the bars, what do we care about Magellan?"
"And as for the Calm Belt, we'll just hijack a Marine battleship!"
Kaido was no stranger to Seastone—Wanokuni had plenty of it. He knew that by using advanced Armament Haki, specifically the 'Emission' technique, he could break the shackles from the inside out. His gaze shifted down the corridor.
"Hey! Bullet! What do you say? Wanna get out of here and join me?"
"Breaking out of here is exactly what I've been waiting for. My goal is to become the strongest in the world!" Bullet's voice echoed back.
A savage grin spread across Kaido's face. "Then let's join forces!"
In the darkness, a tall, muscular man opened his eyes. With a resounding "clang," he shattered the Seastone shackles binding his wrists. Then, with a powerful heave, he tore apart the thick, solid bars in front of him with a deafening crunch. The corridor filled with the sound of explosive energy as Bullet broke free.
The two figures met in the corridor, sizing each other up. Kaido's brow furrowed slightly.
"Bullet, once we're out of this hellhole, you and I will fight until we're satisfied," he growled.
He turned his attention to the other prisoners, who stared in awe at the two powerhouses.
"You're all pretty strong," Kaido said, his voice calm but commanding. "How about it? Join me, and together we'll take over the world!"
For a moment, the Eternal Hell was silent. Then, all at once, the prisoners erupted into cheers, their shouts echoing through the darkness. It was as lively as a festival.
With Kaido's help, notorious criminals like Catarina Devon, Vasco Shot, and Avalo Pizarro—infamous pirates with fearsome reputations—were freed, and they quickly fell in line behind the two powerhouses.
Kaido's eyes gleamed as he stared upwards, as if seeing through the layers of stone and steel above him.
"Garros! Marines! Get ready to face the new Beasts Pirates!"
Later that night...
The piercing sound of an alarm blared throughout Impel Down. The sound of hurried footsteps echoed through the quiet corridors as jailers, roused from their sleep, hastily grabbed their weapons and rushed to their assigned stations.
In the monitoring room, the guards stared at the screens in disbelief.
"This is bad! They've already reached the fifth level!"
"The third and fifth squads sent to stop them have been completely wiped out! Jailermon is dead!"
"They're moving too fast! They've already made it to the fourth level!"
"No! Warden Shiryu has betrayed us!"
