Chapter 71 Three Famous Knives Combined, S+ Level Reward

After finalizing the transaction agreement, the three quickly parted ways.

Saint Saturn returned to the Holy Land Mariejois, eager to implement the Marine reforms as soon as possible.

Carlos accompanied Vegapunk off the ship and headed to a secret research base.

According to Vegapunk, while the research facilities at Marine Headquarters weren't as advanced as those on Egghead Island, they were still more than sufficient to produce the artificial Devil Fruit.

As soon as they entered the research facility, Vegapunk left Carlos and locked himself in a room.

Two days later, the artificial fusion fruit was successfully produced.

The two then approached an experimental instrument.

"With all due respect, Zoan Devil Fruits are the easiest to fuse with weapons, with a 100% success rate," Vegapunk explained. "As for Paramecia... I haven't tried it yet, and there's a risk of failure."

Having worked non-stop for two days and nights, Vegapunk had dark circles under his eyes. Since creating his six clones, he couldn't remember the last time he had worked so intensely. Despite his exhaustion, he was visibly excited.

Carlos smiled but didn't reply. Instead, he took Dark Thunder from his waist and handed it to Vegapunk.

This was the earliest weapon that had accompanied him and was the one he was most comfortable using. While Second Generation Kitetsu and Enma were also powerful, they were Oden's swords, and emotionally, they couldn't compare to Dark Thunder.

"Carlos, you need to think carefully," Vegapunk cautioned. "These three swords are all famous swords of the same level. It won't be easy to fuse them together. If the fusion fails and they turn into scrap metal, don't blame me."

Vegapunk kept rambling, clearly uncertain about the process. Growing impatient with the noise, Carlos waved his hand irritably.

"Don't worry, I won't hold you responsible. Just do your job and let Dark Thunder consume the fusion fruit. Whatever happens next is not your concern."

"Alright then," Vegapunk agreed.

He took Dark Thunder, placed it in the instrument along with the artificial Devil Fruit, and pulled down the glass cover. Then, he pressed a series of complicated buttons.

Buzz, buzz.

The indicator lights on the instrument lit up one after another. Carlos didn't understand any of it, so he simply sat on a nearby sofa, closed his eyes, and waited quietly.

About ten minutes later, the instrument emitted a crisp beeping sound.

There were no disturbances or surprises—it went surprisingly smoothly.

"It looks like it was successful," Vegapunk said, retrieving Dark Thunder from the glass chamber and handing it to Carlos.

Compared to before, the sword hadn't undergone any noticeable changes. Under the light, the glass-like blade shimmered with a dreamy blue hue. A lightning-like white line ran across the entire blade, and the sharp edge reflected a cold, murderous gleam.

Carlos studied the sword for a long time before slowly drawing Enma and Second Generation Kitetsu from his waist.

"Let's see if you can keep up with me."

At that moment, Dark Thunder seemed to sense something. The sword trembled uncontrollably, faintly conveying a feeling of hunger.

"Devour them and grow stronger," Carlos murmured with a slight smile as he placed the three swords together.

The next moment, Dark Thunder's blade suddenly radiated a purple light. Enma and Second Generation Kitetsu were enveloped in countless purple, particle-like substances.

At that moment, the three swords seemed to possess a life of their own. In a fierce struggle for survival, they clashed violently within the purple light.

The sharp, harsh sounds of metal colliding echoed throughout the institute.

Carlos stood with his arms crossed, watching quietly.

Time passed, and the battle between the three swords grew increasingly intense, reaching a fevered pitch.

Countless sharp slashes flew out, slicing through everything in their path.

Boom! Boom! Boom!

The surrounding instruments, ceilings, walls, and floors were shredded into pieces.

Vegapunk's expression changed drastically as he quickly hid behind Carlos, looking around in fear.

"You're taking too big a risk!" he exclaimed. "It just consumed the Fusion Fruit—it needs time to adapt! You should have started with some ordinary weapons instead of having it swallow famous swords right away..."

Carlos remained expressionless, unusually calm.

"Failure? That would only mean it wasn't meant to be."

"If it can't handle this, how could it ever be worthy of being my weapon?"

As if responding to Carlos's words, the purple light grew even stronger, and the chaotic energy within the room intensified further.

After a minute, the light gradually dissipated.

What appeared before them was a samurai sword about two meters long, with a slender blade and a purple-red hue. Just looking at it, one could feel an intense and dangerous aura.

Vegapunk took a few steps back, his eyes widening in shock.

"Wow, what a terrifying sword!" he exclaimed.

Carlos took the sword in his hand and examined it quietly. Suddenly, the blade began to vibrate violently and emitted a dazzling purple light.

"Huh? You don't want to submit to me?" Carlos said, his eyes darkening.

He unleashed his Armament Haki, focusing all his energy into the sword.

After a moment, Dark Thunder trembled slightly and let out a mournful cry. It combined the malevolence of Second Generation Kitetsu and the monstrous power of Enma.

At the same time, after a day of deliberations, the Five Elders officially issued the Marine reform order. The news reached Marineford, causing a stir throughout Marine.

Marshal Sengoku immediately summoned all senior officials for urgent discussions. Despite his reservations, he had no choice but to accept the order.

The most troubling part was that nearly half of Marine's members supported this reform—relinquishing control of the world and leaving Marine's future to Carlos.

With mixed emotions, Sengoku boarded a warship with Garp, Crane, Zephyr, and others, heading towards the Upside Down Mountain. They would establish a new Marine base near Whiskey Peak.

Naturally, many chose to stay behind. Besides Admiral Akainu, eight Vice Admirals remained, including Momousagi, Onigumo, Momonga and Doberman.

In the Marine office,

"Sir, they have already departed. Do you really not want to see them off?" Momousagi's voice broke the silence.

Carlos, reclining in a large chair and flipping through Marine's roster, looked up slightly.

"Given the circumstances and our separation, there's no need for formalities anymore," he said. "Inform everyone on this list that I will assume the position of Marine Marshal in front of everyone."

"Ding! Host's force (Marine) is falling apart, and people's morale is scattering."

"Checking......…"

"Testing completed."

"Host defeated the Emperor of the Sea. Instead of becoming Marine's hero, he suggested splitting Marine. This aligns with the behavior of a young man. Final rating: A"

"Strength evaluation: SS"

"The conditions for the reward for Er Wu Zai have been met!"

"Overall rating: S+"

"Rewards are being distributed..."

"Congratulations to the Host for obtaining the Killing Sword Intent!"

"Do you wish to receive it?"
