Chapter 72: Beyond The Limits Of This World, Killing With Sword Intent

An S+ level reward, the Killing Sword Intent?

As Carlos listened to the system prompts in his ears, he struggled to contain his excitement. Without much hesitation, he said in a deep voice:

"Receive!"

The next moment, his vision went dark, and he felt himself drifting between dreams and reality. It was as if he had become one with a sword.

There was no joy or sadness. Even if he were to kill everyone in the world, it would not affect his heart. In this state, everything seemed as insignificant as dust.

A mere glance or thought could cut through everything in the world. Nothing should be spared, nothing should be spared from death. Killing enemies proves one's strength, and killing friends proves one's mettle. To pursue the ultimate method of killing, one could even kill oneself...

This was the ultimate, ruthless path of killing!

Carlos's eyes appeared devoid of all life, replaced only by a chilling coldness. It felt as if an eternity had passed, or perhaps only a brief moment.

Slowly, Carlos opened his eyes.

"Is this the intent of the sword? Entering the path through killing and destroying all things," he mused. "It is so powerful that it nearly consumed itself, falling into the abyss and becoming an unconscious killing machine."

"But..."

"What should be killed and what should not be killed is for me to decide!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Carlos's eyes seemed to turn into two sharp sword auras. They pierced through several thick walls and vanished thousands of meters away in an instant!

"Open the properties panel!"

His swordsmanship remained the same, but it had transcended to a new level without him even realizing it.

So, this is beyond the limits of this world...

Carlos's heart raced with excitement. His strength should now be at the level of the Four Emperors—or perhaps even greater!

If he were to face Kaido again, he was confident he could defeat him openly, without any external aids.

"With such strength, this world can no longer restrain me..."

As his thoughts wandered about Marine's future plans, a sudden burst of chaotic and rapid footsteps echoed in the corridor outside. The unexpected commotion had caused quite a stir at Naval Headquarters.

Momousagi strode towards the office and opened the door. Just as she was about to speak, her expression shifted abruptly.

It felt as if a sharp blade was constantly moving around her body. Her instincts warned her that taking another step forward could be fatal!

Feeling a chill run down her spine, Momousagi hurriedly took a few steps back and stammered:

"Ca-Carlos, you..."

"No need to panic."

Carlos glanced at the group standing outside the office, a wry smile on his face as he waved his hand gently.

In the next moment, the invisible aura shrouding the office vanished instantly, as if nothing had ever happened.

But Momousagi realized that what she had just felt was no illusion. Unknowingly, Carlos had grown even stronger.

What a formidable man...

Momousagi brushed a strand of hair from her ear and pushed aside her doubts.

"Sir Carlos, as per your instructions, everyone has gathered in the square. Please give your orders."

Carlos nodded slightly and rose from his seat.

"Since we're all here, let's proceed."

Marineford Square

Nearly 50,000 Marine soldiers were lined up in formation, their presence creating an overwhelming roar.

At the front of the ranks were Vice Admirals Momonga, Doberman, and others. Among them were seven giants, towering Vice Admirals who looked like living hills.

Some were casually wiping their swords, some had their arms crossed and sneered, some squinted in disdain, while others held cigars with a look of contempt.

The atmosphere was thick with an indescribable sense of oppression.

The most prominent figures were the four standing on the high platform:

Akainu, Kizaru, Green Bull, and Fujitora.

Though the distance made their faces hard to discern, their mere presence radiated a commanding aura.

Behind them stood an empty chair.

The day was exceptionally hot, with the scorching sun beating down relentlessly. Despite the heat, no one showed impatience. They waited quietly for the arrival of a certain individual.

Growing bored of the wait, Green Bull, cigarette in mouth, turned to Fujitora standing beside him.

"I wonder why we've been summoned this time."

Fujitora, holding his staff sword, responded calmly:

"If I had to guess, it's probably to introduce Marine's new Admiral."

After the world government's reform order was issued, Aokiji had refused to stay in Marineford and did not join Sengoku in his travels. His whereabouts were unknown, leaving a temporary vacancy in the position of Admiral.

"Oh? A new Admiral? It seems like it will be one of us!"

"Don't get ahead of yourself. We'll still need to follow Carlos's final decision."

Green Bull exhaled a puff of smoke slowly.

"Carlos? I believe Sakazuki should be the Marshal."

The two continued their conversation when suddenly, Fujitora seemed to sense something and turned his head towards the distant port.

There appeared to be quite a commotion there.

At the end of the road, a tall man dressed in a black trench coat, wielding a black cross-shaped sword, approached the square with deliberate steps.

Despite a hint of fatigue on his brow, he exuded an undeniable aura of power.

Sailors who wanted to approach and inquire about his presence hesitated, faltering under his piercing gaze. They retreated instead.

"Why is this guy here?"

"I heard he had a run-in with the Whitebeard Pirates while escorting a warship a few days ago!"

"To confront the Whitebeard Pirates alone and return—he truly is the greatest swordsman in the world."

"He seems to be here with something in mind..."

Onigumo quickly stepped forward, his expression dark, and blocked Hawkeye's path.

"Marine is holding a significant gathering. Whatever your purpose, you must leave immediately!"

As the saying goes, a new official must make a strong impression. Marine had recently undergone significant reform and split into two factions.

Carlos, as the architect of this reform, was now the new Marshal. Many new arrangements for Marine would inevitably follow, including internal personnel adjustments and future plans.

Given that the opponent was one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea, his presence at such an occasion was indeed questionable.
