"Though the new training room looks small, covering only about a thousand square meters, the cost of building one is as high as 2 billion beli," Lilith stood up and explained to everyone.
"In addition to applying gravity, it also features a specially designed simulated battle area."
"Simulated battle?" someone inquired.
"That's right," Lilith continued, "besides physical training, you also need to cultivate a matching fighting spirit. Here, various enemies can be simulated through holographic projection, and their strength can be adjusted to suit your needs."
As she spoke, she began operating the nearby control panel.
Whirrr—Light and shadow swirled until they slowly formed a shape.
A towering figure with two horns and a massive build, wielding a large mace, appeared before them.
The Marines gasped collectively.
"Isn't that... Kaido?"
"I... I can barely breathe."
"It's just a projection, but it still feels so oppressive!"
Lilith crossed her arms and smirked proudly.
"This is a projection based on Kaido's actual body data. Not only are his strength and speed perfectly replicated, but even his Devil Fruit abilities are almost identical to the real thing—the similarity is 99%!"
She paused for effect. "As long as we have the data, you could even spar with top-tier powerhouses like Akainu or Whitebeard!"
The Marines stared in awe, grasping the significance of her words.
"But no matter how realistic the projection is," one of them spoke up, "it's still just an illusion, right? It can't actually hit us. It's not the same as real combat."
"Good question!" Lilith replied, with a grin. She then pulled out a sleek set of special clothing.
"This is a light-pressure suit. Once you wear it, you'll be able to physically interact with the projection as if it were real."
Her expression grew serious. "But be warned—don't overestimate yourselves. If you're not careful, you could still get seriously injured, or worse."
She gestured toward a nearby area. "We also have a nutrition chamber here to help restore physical fatigue, and if you're injured, the fully automated operating table can provide medical treatment."
Listening to her explanation, the Marines couldn't hide their excitement.
"With all this advanced tech, even someone with poor natural talent can train hard and become strong!"
"It's amazing..."
"Of course, it is! Didn't you hear? One training room alone costs 2 billion beli!"
At that point, tens of thousands of soldiers inside and outside the area turned their eyes to Carlos.
The total cost of these ten training rooms was 20 billion beli—a staggering sum that most couldn't even fathom.
All for their benefit, to help them grow stronger. This man had invested an unimaginable fortune in them.
In the midst of the crowd, Joseph clenched his fists tightly.
"Johnny," he said, voice full of determination, "I've made up my mind. I'll become the greatest swordsman in the world, and my name will be known across all the seas!"
As dusk fell, the warm orange-red light filtered through the screen windows of the Marshal's office. Carlos leaned back in his large leather chair, a teacup in hand, reviewing reports stacked on his desk.
Knock knock—
A soft knock on the door broke the silence. Ai Yin walked in.
"Sir, the fleet has returned to port," she reported.
Not long after, Akainu, Green Bull, and Fujitora entered the office.
Carlos glanced at the three of them with approval.
"I've read the report on this mission. You did well," he said. "Fifty-five pirate crews were eliminated, clearing the threats in the first half of the Grand Line. Plus, you brought back a significant amount of loot."
He glanced at the list. "Aside from treasure maps, gold, and silver, we've acquired fifteen Devil Fruits, including the Logia-type Snow-Snow Fruit, the Paramecia Barrier Fruit, Cracker's Biscuit Fruit, and Smoothie's Squeeze Fruit."
Carlos's eyes lingered on the report. "Not to mention, three of the famed 21 O Wazamono swords—a massive haul by any standard."
Akainu nodded slightly. "On our way back through Alabasta, we captured Nico Robin."
Carlos raised an eyebrow slightly.
Nico Robin—now that's a name he's all too familiar with.
A member of the Straw Hat Pirates and the sole survivor of Ohara, she had a bounty of 79 million beli placed on her head by the World Government when she was just eight years old.
Given Akainu's strength, it wasn't surprising that he had managed to capture her.
But still...
"You seem a bit surprised," Akainu said in his deep, gruff voice.
Carlos waved his hand dismissively. "Knowing you, it's a bit unexpected that you didn't kill her on the spot."
He recalled the Buster Call on Ohara, where then-Vice Admiral Akainu had shown his ruthless side. Rather than letting any potential threat escape, he had ordered the destruction of a civilian refugee ship—an act that sparked much controversy within the Marines.
"You know me well," Akainu admitted. His expression darkened. "I did want to eliminate her at the time, but..." He trailed off, his face grim. "Someone stopped me."
Carlos was momentarily stunned, and a name popped into his mind: Kuzan, also known as Aokiji, the former Marine Admiral.
It made sense—Aokiji was the only person with both the motive and the strength to intervene against Akainu.
So, this is where Kuzan went, Carlos thought to himself. Looks like he's taken it upon himself to be Robin's guardian.
Akainu shook his head slightly, as if he didn't want to dwell on the matter. "Things got complicated. Long story short, the two of us reached an agreement."
Carlos didn't press further. Anyone paying attention could see the irreconcilable differences between Akainu and Aokiji. As Marine Marshal, Carlos wasn't eager to lose a warrior of Aokiji's caliber.
That said, Aokiji had been confused since the Ohara incident. When the time was right, Carlos would sit down and have a proper conversation with him.
As for Nico Robin, she was more than just a young woman on the run. She was a rare talent, one of the few people in the world who could read and interpret the ancient Poneglyphs. Instead of handing her over to the World Government, it might be more advantageous to use her skills for his own purposes—and perhaps stabilize relations with Aokiji in the process.
Interrupting his thoughts, Green Bull eagerly began his report. "Marshal Carlos, during this operation, we captured 10,253 prisoners. How should we handle them?"
Carlos didn't hesitate. "Put them to work. Use them for hard labor—build more Marine bases across the Grand Line and tighten our control over the area."
"Understood," Green Bull replied promptly.
Finally, Carlos turned to Fujitora. "You were gone for a month and managed to recruit over 30,000 new Marines. That's really something..."
Fujitora, usually so composed, looked a bit embarrassed.
Carlos smiled. "I'm not criticizing you. In fact, you've done an excellent job. Your efforts have greatly enhanced the reputation of the Marines."
He paused for a moment, then continued, "However, the number of troops stationed at Marine Headquarters has now swelled to 180,000..."
