Morning light streamed through the curtains of the King's royal chamber.
Elysia stood before a full-length mirror, her fingers grazing the embroidery of the gown that had been carefully laid out for her. It was a masterpiece, deep crimson velvet with golden embroidery along the bodice, the patterns swirling into intricate roses and vines that shimmered under light. The fabric pooled at her feet in cascading waves befitting the woman who would soon be crowned Queen of Valeria.
Two maids fussed over her, securing the delicate lace at the back of her dress. But despite their careful hands, the knot refused to sit properly, the fabric slightly too tight to allow for a clean finish.
A low chuckle echoed from the doorway.
