A Good Hand

Life is full of luck and no one knows who will get it and who won't or when. You just wake up one day and it's our day.

It also might come in many ways. Like getting dealt a good hand or simply by being in the right place at the right time. Some people get luck handed to them, a second chance, a save.

It can happen heroically, or by a simple coincidence. But some don't get luck handed to them on a shiny platter. These could be those who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time, who don't get saved. Or when it's just not someone's day.

Others are death good for the better part of their lives and then the latter part they are served misfortune after misfortune.

It's all life. We learn to live with what we get.

If it doesn't happen for or to you, you don't have to stop believing. Who knows, maybe like Leo, your good luck is almost knocking at the door. Your second chance will come albeit late. It is always the right time.

Leo considered himself lucky to have met Dylan because after everything that happened four years ago, he had thought that things would just go downhill from there and they had for a moment.

But here he was. A homeowner, had himself a great boyfriend, the love of family and in the University. He couldn't ask for more. He was happy.

Contented? Maybe not since he was yet to get his revenge.

Happy? Definitely yes.

They arrived at the old house, where his mom was and they walked in, she was in the living room crocheting something.

Mother Adams was so happy to see them that she almost sprang to her legs so as to hug her son but she couldn't.

She had made a lot of progress but she still couldn't walk but the doctors had promised her that with the way medicine had advanced, her spine might be saved and she might walk again and sooner than they all thought.

"Leo, son, I missed you.You haven't been home for two days now. Don't you care about this old lady anymore?" She jokingly said as she held her hands out for a hug.

Leo knelt on one leg before her and hugged her as he laughed, "I know this old lady is capable of taking care of herself even without me around. I missed you too mama," he said as he stood up again.

"Dylan, son, come and hug auntie. How have you been?" She asked as she hugged him too.

"I'm well, auntie. Happy to see you doing better," he said with a sincere smile.

"Thank you. I'm well and I thank God that my son is able to pay for all the doctors but I usually tell him that it's a waste of time and money. I'm okay just seeing my boys do well even if I can't walk. At least I will be proud to tell their father that our babies are well and successful. Also, I still got a mouth to nag them," she finished with a laugh and they all laughed at her antics.

"We already talked about this Ma. No more talks of death and you are going to get well. Daddy will have to wait for a few more decades. I am sure he won't be lonely.

He might already be making deals on building those mansions up there," Leo said as he knelt before his mother and took her small hands in his.

She looked at him fondly and pinched his cheek lovingly.

"I have good news for you mama. We are moving. With the help of Dylan here, I was able to get a better place for us. And, it is ready. It's just waiting for you to start living there," he said as he looked at his mom joyfully.

"Where is it? Can we go now? Though I will miss this place. I've got so used to it and the neighbours are nice," she said but the eagerness to see their new place was evident on her face.

Leo and Dylan helped mama Adams to board the vehicle and Dylan told them not to worry because someone will pack their things and bring them to the new house.

They started their journey but passed through a restaurant to eat because they had both walked a lot and they were hungry. Mama was happy because it had been a long time since she was in a hotel.

When they arrived at their new home, Leo was surprised to find their things from the old house already there and in place. He looked at Dylan and was impressed by his efficiency.

The first thing they did was introduce

mama Adams to all the workers and Leo reminded them that she was the boss and whatever she says, goes.

After the introductions it was time to give mama a tour of the house. Leo insisted that she would see the grounds the following day after she rested.

Their mother was out of words. She cried as she toured the house because it all looked surreal. "I never thought that we would live in this kind of a house again. I thought...." she couldn't continue as the tears choked her and Leo knelt before her and hugged her

while Dylan held her shoulders. He had been the one who had been pushing the wheelchair.

'I can now die in peace. I now know my boys are in good hands,' Mama Adams thought as she looked up at Dylan.

She caressed his cheeks with a smile and didn't say anything as she turned to look at her son with a knowing smile. They might have thought that she was old and didn't know these things but she wasn't a fool. Also, since she got sick, the only thing she could do was watch the television, browse the net and watch web series. And of late yaoi series had become her favourite.

Why? Maybe she knew something her son didn't.

She smiled as she thought that life had dealt her a good hand after all the pain.

She smiled while facing upwards.

“Honey, we are going to be okay."
