Chapter 16: The Policewoman

Su Sheng's onboarding process took less than half an hour, and he officially became a senior executive in the corporation. Although the benefits couldn't compare to those back home, he was satisfied.

Money earned through one's abilities feels just like flowing water.

He looked at his new work ID, feeling like something was missing.

Damn, where are my subordinates?

"Secretary Jiang, come here."

Su Sheng pressed the internal phone, calling the secretary to report to him!

The middle-aged secretary on the other end was baffled. Although she was a secretary, she was the CEO's secretary. How dare a mere executive speak to her in that tone?

"I'm sorry, Director Su, I'm tied up with something. Is there anything you need?" Secretary Jiang tried to speak as diplomatically as possible, fearing this man.

Su Sheng didn't mind, speaking over the phone, "So, where are my employees? How many people can I manage as a director?"

"Cough cough..."

Secretary Jiang really wanted to say, 'You can't even manage yourself, let alone others.'

"Director Su, don't rush. There will probably be a meeting about your staff allocation overseen by Director Li in the afternoon. You should be there too."

"I see, I am not available this afternoon, just decide and let me know. Try to pick some good-looking female subordinates, after all, it's less tiring to work with men and women together."

He was planning to pick up his car that afternoon, which might be more convenient in case of any emergencies.

Secretary Jiang was left speechless, not knowing what to say. He boldly requested attractive female subordinates; he might as well shoot for the moon.

"That will be all for now, I'll contact you if anything comes up."

After hanging up, Su Sheng couldn't sit still.

He didn't have any subordinates yet, nor any work to do. He figured he might as well get to know the surroundings better.

He just went, as no one could manage him, nor did they dare to. His direct superior was his cousin, and above her, his formidable wife—somehow, he felt a sense of inadequacy as a husband.

When Su Sheng passed by the office area, he caught the eyes of all the staff in the marketing department.

The word was out: the new director was Director Li's cousin, and gossip about Su Sheng's interview from yesterday was already circulating.

It was enough. From Su Sheng attending the interview in slippers to riding the No. 1 elevator directly to the director's position today, a storm had whipped up within the company about the importance of nepotism!

At that moment, Su Sheng, too, took the No. 1 elevator to randomly explore a floor. Little did he expect that once the elevator doors opened, he would find an unexpected acquaintance inside.

"It's you!"

Shu Jie covered her mouth, unable to believe she would encounter her mission target here.

Su Sheng couldn't believe either that he would run into the policewoman under such circumstances.

This was a good thing—lunch was sorted.

"Surprise, surprise!" he exclaimed jovially, stepping into the elevator.

"Mm-hmm!"

Shu Jie nodded like a pecking chick, totally taken aback, yet there was more shock than joy.

Professional habit led her to glance at the man's badge, which had a photo, an employee number, and a job title. Him, a senior executive at Tang Corporation? Impossible!

"Since it's a surprise, why don't you treat me to lunch?"

Su Sheng thought he had helped her a lot that night, so naturally, it was only right she treated him, without any guilt.

"I should treat you to lunch?"

Shu Jie seemed a bit out of sync.

You must know that Su Sheng was investigating a suspect, and if it weren't for the S-level documents, he would have taken them back to the police station for questioning long ago. And now they meet, and she dares invite him to dinner, isn't she afraid of eating prison food?

"What's wrong, you don't want to?"

Su Sheng subconsciously touched his pocket, urging him not to draw his gun. What's with people these days, don't they know to return a drop of water with a spring?

"Willing, of course, willing."

Shu Jie nodded vigorously. She was worried about how to carry out the investigation, and what could be a better opportunity than having a meal together?

Just then, the elevator door opened. It was the security guard from the morning shift outside, who instantly recognized Su Sheng, and also the female cop from earlier; but how did these two end up together as if they knew each other?

"Li Meixin, remember? My elder cousin!"

Su Sheng directly repeated the words from the morning, leaving the security guard speechless, who in the hurry even gave a military salute.

Unexpectedly, Su Sheng suddenly stopped, and with a snap, his right heel touched his left, and like a sword drawn from its sheath, he raised his arm and returned a textbook-perfect military salute.

The young security guard widened his eyes, a familiar military aura hitting him, unable to believe that Su Sheng had a military background.

By his side, Shu Jie was also staring with wide eyes. The captain had guessed right; this Su Sheng must be from the military, otherwise why would he have such a subconscious salute reaction.

"Thank you for your service." As Su Sheng spoke, his tense body relaxed, and his sloppy, untidy posture returned.

"Not at all!" The security guard's face gleamed with goodwill, feeling like he had encountered one of his own.

"Hmm!"

Su Sheng nodded, not saying much more. After all, he was just an ordinary person now, wasn't he?

He started walking, unaware that his pace was quicker than usual. Shu Jie caught on and hurried after him, drawing glances from the passing crowd.

Who is this beauty, which department is she from, how come I've never seen her before?

Once they were out of the company, Su Sheng had completely recovered.

He turned around to look at Shu Jie running towards him, finding the female police officer quite enticing. Slim waist, generous hips, her pencil jeans accentuating her curvy rear, and a loose shirt which she wore well.

Looking at her face, the female officer had no makeup, naturally unembellished. With an oval face, large almond eyes, long eyelashes, her eyes seemed almost capable of speech. As she jogged over, her body carried the scent of sweat, not perfume, but a faint natural body fragrance.

"Su Sheng, what do you want to eat for lunch?"

Shu Jie's eyes flickered somewhat evasively, his gaze was too aggressive, as if trying to strip her bare, making it hard for her to look him straight.

"Anything, you decide. Oh, where's your car?"

Shu Jie pointed, "Over there."

It was an old-style Tiguan, fitting well with her undercover, low-profile identity.

Su Sheng nodded and quickly got into the passenger seat. Shu Jie, somewhat nervously driving, didn't know why, but in a spur of the moment decision, she drove to the crime scene from the day before, the underground parking lot.

After getting out of the car, she pondered whether to probe a little when Su Sheng suddenly took the initiative to say, "You also like the Sichuan restaurant on the fourth floor? You better be careful; this parking lot has not been very peaceful lately."

"Why has it been uneasy?" Shu Jie pretended to be naive, exuding a thirst for knowledge.

She asked herself if her acting was naturally flawless, without any slip-ups.

Su Sheng didn't think much of it, bluntly saying, "Damn it, I got into a brawl here yesterday. I knocked down more than a dozen guys on the spot, but I lost sight of the main culprit."

"Ah, you're just going to confess like that? I'm a police officer!" Shu Jie had never encountered such an honest suspect. She hadn't even asked, yet he had spilled it all.

"Right, I almost forgot."

Su Sheng chuckled, "What, you want to catch me? Just so you know, if you dare to catch me, I dare to stick to you for the rest of my life, making you support me and even have kids with me."
