Chapter 52 - Calculated Violence

Naia dropped into a defensive stance as her staff flared with cerulean energy. The familiar patterns of harmony built into a lance of power that stuck the creature… and slid off like water on glass. Something in its augmented flesh actively rejected her attempt at forcing either its biological or mechanical functions into stasis.

'I see.'

The Navigator didn't panic as research had taught her Merzijan creations rarely responded to the more esoteric solutions. It was why they were one of the first cultures so brave as to simply waltz into the other universe. Her hand dropped to the energy pistol at her hip before the bio-mech's charge brought it within range.

The creature's claws raked through the space she occupied a moment before. Its augmented speed made it a blur of metal and meat, though she had been able to slow it slightly by stabilizing space in between them. Energy bolts from the squad's weapons scored its armored hide but failed to end its advance.
