Chapter 12. "A picture."

A journal entry: September 20th, 2004.

(Still 15 years old.)

What a gap between the entries lol.

I was a bit of a busy kid. I didn't have social media and the likes.

I had my skateboard, my friends, and the city.

I would be out and about until I HAD to be in the house.

But it was different then, you know? In the early 2000's we ran the streets looking for fun things to do, other kids looking for fun things to do, new and different locations.

We didn't go looking for trouble. We didn't go out stealing cars or breaking into places.

The worst I/we ever did was steal a snack or two from the local corner store lol.

But that was typically poverty-driven versus a couple of kids who just wanted something sweet.

We were hungry.

That doesn't make it any less wrong, it just makes it different.

If that makes sense.

Another entry for you here folks,

Enjoy.

-----

I'm in a rather good mood today. It's been alright so far, no one has ticked me off.

I have now a picture of XXXXX (my ex-girlfriend.) -my friend- XXXXX downloaded it for me. I have pictures of all my friends, but not my girl XXXXX. I gave her a picture of me, and I have to get one of her.

I haven't talked to her since last week because she left to Minnesota for a funeral.

I don't know who died/passed, but I give my condolences.

-----

I remember this one lbvs.

I don't know if this timeline makes sense though lol

I remember the first girl that young me referred to as my ex. If I recall properly, we never dated lol.

I was voted in as Freshman Homecoming Prince in 2004 lol

I have NO idea how or why, but I know that my small group of friends voted for me lol.

I remember for several reasons, one being that I wasn't at school that day to be honored in person.

I was such a strange kid, I can't emphasize that point enough lol

I wore Tripp pants that were four times larger than normal jeans (on purpose mind you) graphic t-shirts over long-sleeved button-ups, boots or beat-up skate shoes, spiked bracelets, chokers paired with several other necklaces and chains, and hair that was dyed a different color every six months.

I flew around the city with my best friend on skateboards, while all of the other Black kids played basketball and other sports.

I listened to Linkin Park, Evanescence, Trapt, and that sort of stuff.

Maybe that's it.

Maybe they voted for me...I was so proudly and defiantly different...

ANYWAY

My whole class was banned from that year's Homecoming for being too wild in the halls and something else that I can't recall.

So I didn't bother showing up to the dance.

I went to XXXXX's house, and we had sex in her mom's bed lmao.

I remember that part only because after what had to be five minutes of sweating and grunting between the two of us, she sat on my lap while she played songs on her mom's computer.

While smoking a cigarette.

I remember asking her if it was good for her ( the most cringe shit ever) to which she replied:

  "I am smoking aren't I?"

Young me had NO idea what that meant.

But I definitely told my best friend the next day lol.

On another note, we didn't have social media just yet, so we would print out and exchange pictures of each other. I was blessed with a wealthy friend lbvs His dad had a printer in his office.

Outside of that, we had to wait until we got our pictures back from picture day lol If we were lucky, our parents would let us hand out a couple.

Those things were hella expensive!

See you soon folks.
