Another door for another problem

Kate's POV

What could Derek say that would be a perfect explanation? Everything was at stake, and Alpha Grimes was ready to take any action.

"You don't respect me.... You are starting to see your small pack as a big place to stand against me, aren't you?" Alpha Grimes narrowed his eyes.

Derek shook his head, but was not equipped to speak.

"After everything, you went ahead to make her attend the mating ball, completely going against me."

I felt prompted to speak, and my mouth was already starting to move. Just then, Mitchell stood in front of me, shielding my view of Alpha Grimes. Her right hand bent backwards, signaling for me to stay quiet.

"She went on her own, and we weren't aware of it." Mitchell tried to convince.

"And she got a mate?"

At first, she was not sure of what to say because Ellen had told them of my finding my mate.

"Hmmm...." She was turning back to look at Ellen.

Perhaps she felt that telling a lie concerning my having a mate wasn't something she felt was reasonable. But she hadn't confirmed it.

"You don't know if your daughter has got a mate?"

"Actually.... Yes.... I mean no.... She hasn't gotten a mate."

Grimes crossed his hands backward. Mitchell could never deceive him with a lie.

"She did not get a mate." Derek finally spoke out. "We can't lie to you concerning that."

He waved his hands at him, making him look too less of a person to speak about me. His eyes fell on Ellen.

"I want you to tell me what you know." He took one step closer.

Ellen's nervousness grew to a high extent, and her eyes could not stop looking at Derek and Mitchell.

"Come on, speak up. I want to hear from you."

She took a loud breath. "She has—“

"Ellen wasn't there with her. She wouldn't know exactly what happened. You can believe me, Kate has no mate." Mitchell cut Ellen shot.

"I don't believe any of you, all your actions scream lies to me!" He howled. "But Derek, you forget the cost of this thing you're trying to do against me."

I felt things were going to turn out to be something we couldn't control, and the only remedy that came to my mind was to speak up. That was also going to be with much effort from me.

I touched Mitchell's fingers, trying to pass a message for her to let me speak, but she pinched my fingers.

"Please give us time.... Just a time for her to regain herself." She went on speaking.

"If that's the case, I would pardon her some time to get better."

He turned to leave. A knock on the door stopped him.

Mitchell rushed to the door. A guard had accompanied the physician to my room, but she tried to make him go back. She was avoiding a change in Alpha Grimes' mind to go out.

"Let him in. Isn't he a physician?"

She gave up, and Logan, our special physician, entered.

He first bowed his head to Mitchell, but when his eyes met Alpha Grimes, he laid on the floor.

"Our superior Alpha!"

It was as though Derek was not also an Alpha.

"Dear Alpha," he said to Derek.

He was carrying a bag that had a hand that hung around his left shoulder, crossing his chest. Just as I'd thought, Alpha Grimes did not leave. He wanted to know more about my health.

"Her breathing is not stable." Logan placed his right hand on my chest, in-between my breasts. "What happened to her?"

"Just do your work," Derek said.

"It's good if I know exactly what she is going through." He opened his back to bring out a syrup. "You can explain what had happened to her, and we can start from there. It's that simple."

This time, I didn't bother to speak, but had decided to play along with Derek and Mitchell.

"Is there something you guys are trying to hide?" Grimes' eyes were trying to see through them.

Logan had no footing in what was happening, but he got a glimpse at that moment, going on to pour out the syrup in a spoon, and passing it into my mouth without any other question.

"Everything should be in place by the next time I come." Grimes walked out.

As soon as Logan was done with me, he carried his bag and left.

Mitchell's POV

"What kind of game have we put ourselves into?" I carried the chair Grimes had used to sit.

I wanted to watch out for her. The thing was that I was becoming desperate to see the change in her body.

"We've opened up another door for her." Derek placed his hands on my shoulders. "We knew of the dream she said she had, and now, Grimes had decided to make everything complex for us to handle."

Kate was trying to sleep, and I had asked Ellen to leave her with me.

I realized that Kate's recovery wasn't the main problem, Grimes was. What if Kate refused to be his mate? And what if that sparks up his anger towards us?

Our pack would be in trouble. No other pack was ready to join us against him.

"You didn't tell me everything about the agreement you made with him."

Grimes' coming was an eye opening for me. It made me realize that Derek had not been plain with me. He had told me just the start of the deal, but did not go far to tell me what Grimes wanted to do.

"Now you know everything." He shrugged.

"Kate is now in a tight corner." My eyes were filling up. "You are the cause of everything."

He seemed not to care, and was already leaving the room as though everything happening was just a small problem for us to solve.

"We will look for a solution. Some other time, I will try to speak with Grimes." He opened the door and left the room.

I was alone with Kate, massaging her head, and singing lullabies to make her sleep off. I stayed with her while she slept.

After about three hours, she woke up, and the look on her face had regained life. She had a lot of things to tell me, I knew from the way she was looking at me.

"Mom.... The man I met in the mating ball claimed to be my mate....

I do not understand why he's the same man in my dream."
